The last im
WordPress multisite (subdomains), easy and good imo

My experience with Wordpress is that it's double minded over whether it's a blogging platform or a CMS, to not good results.  It also takes a bit to maintain, as it's a very big surface for attack, and very popular.  You might take a look at Ghost, and the users could host their downloads offsite, i.e. Dropbox or something.

Easy to maintain WordPress surely is :D Even compared to flat file and static file generators that might require fiddling with non-GUI/cli components. As for attacks and popularity, the server where they reside on must be secured, good passwords, up to date WP and plugins takes care of (I want to say 90%) of the problem.

Living Room / Routing issue?
« Last post by rgdot on July 14, 2017, 06:05 PM »
So around a month ago I noticed I can't get to DC and another site (and a handful more that I have discovered since)

My first thought was my connection, but only two (at the time) were inaccessible
Second thought DNS issue but why affecting two+ different sites?
After noticing that DC (and those other(s)) ARE accessible through a VPN I thought may be my IP is banned but then why would DC or a few unrelated sites ban my IP.
So finally I do a traceroute to DC (and another site) and 8 hops from me just after my ISP's addresses I get the dreaded ??? ??? ???

Other than calling me ISP does any body have any thoughts? I am afraid such a routing issue won't be solved by my clueless ISP, they are not going to check what is likely a routing issue beyond their servers, not even their own probably.

(In the past days I am checking DC through Opera VPN and Windscribe with no problem)

General Software Discussion / Re: Still using Chrome? Enjoy being watched.
« Last post by rgdot on June 04, 2017, 10:16 AM »
My points was mostly that even if a system admin budget-wise, etc choosing to roll out something else other than Chrome needs approval. As a lesser user sitting in a cubicle I will be doing my job and of course being careful but I can't afford to over worry about things that has to be decided and requires company wide policy.
At home, in a 'this is mine' environment it has to be and it is different. I don't have a web cam and the laptop I use of course does have one, easy to cover and sometimes when it is on table webcam is pointing to wall ( using external monitor). Mic on the other hand ....

My point above being: A security flaw opening a webcam while I am sitting in a cubicle is way different than if I am sitting at home (may be that's just me though)

To be honest these discussions should be about home use, I suppose if working at home for a company using their machine too but even then for normal use I am switching to my personal machine. At a company setting, even if I am a system admin the policies and limitations of what I can do are set above me, I can only recommend but as a system admin I am not disabling Chrome 'unilaterally' based on things like this

If it amounts to having a second google account on the phone and 'switch' to it it was possible, if it is still possible I don't know (of course multiple accounts on same device is possible, my "still possible I don't know" refers to switching to it for the purposes of the store)

It is an almost fundamental design issue. It's like chicken and egg argument, driver for modern system not existing/available is an impediment to moving from XP to 7.
As for funding issue, that's both yes and no, up until very recently - and in some cases still - bank ATMs and commercial POS ran XP ....  at multi million and sometimes billion companies. Not restricted to government entities.

An OS that was released over 15 years ago, in an age where people pay for latest phones, latest consoles and other gadgets ... sorry but that's silly. We are not in a time where we can be lax about privacy. Mitigating cyber attacks, ransomware are very much a subset of privacy surely.

If I correct their website English, well I found only 2 errors on the home page, will I get a discount?

If overpriced meant automatic failure then few companies would exist these days. Not to say I think this will be a success but it won't be because of price it would be because of the differences like brand recognition and app store quality.
