Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR for mac
« Last post by Josh on June 05, 2016, 04:14 PM »
I was wondering the same thing as f0dder. Since moving platforms, I have found spotlight infinitely useful.

You've totally moved to Mac?  How are you finding it?

Actually, I am quite enjoying it. Yes, I could have purchased a lot more power for the same amount of money, but the machine works far better than any Windows machine I've ever used. Don't get me wrong, there are some app differences (Office for MAC does not equal Office for PC - Found this out in my final masters course). It is a very well thought out OS/hardware integration.

As a casual gamer, there are only a handful of games I cannot play but that seems to be shifting (a large portion of my steam games work). The biggest challenge was adjusting the habits I once had for Windows and adapting them to OSX. I now miss spotlight on Windows, I love the seamless virtual desktop setup, and I rarely have to reboot this machine. I still very much enjoy Windows 10, but OSX is a much better day-to-day OS for me, especially with rapid terminal access :) That said, I am looking to move my daughter's machine to a Mac Mini and get my wife a Macbook Air, eventually. My media server remains on Windows (The Linux distros still fail to handle some features I require otherwise I would turn that into an appliance) and my firewall runs pfsense.

General Software Discussion / Re: What website has the fewest files?

There's not much helping him more than pointing out that the way he wants to do it makes most people mad at him.

(Pfff, -5 points. Who's not helpful here?)

There are proper ways to help point that out. There is no need to be rude or insulting. I am positive that is not the mindset we want here. Productivity is not spurred by that type of talk.

Tux: I am certain we have discussed this before. This stops now. There is no need for attacks and posts that aren't helping out site members. Future comments will be removed if they continue this line of posting.

General Software Discussion / OSX - Replace Finder as default file browser?
« Last post by Josh on February 06, 2016, 04:28 PM »
I was wondering if there is a way in OSX to replace the default finder with another file manager (Commander One, Free Commander, etc.)? DirectoryOpus has a similar function in Windows in which it intercepts OS calls for explorer and instead launches the Opus executable with associated command line arguments. Any ideas?

I am involved in a Master of Science program in Information Assurance. I am currently writing, or in the process of starting due to unforeseen delays, my masters thesis. My thesis will be a gap analysis on current cyber security curriculum at my university while highlighting areas for improvement/advancement. My hope is to change the curriculum and shift it to a split program. The first program will be the current information assurance program while my hope is that the second will be a dedicated cyber security program focusing on more advanced and technical portions of the curriculum while also diving into the intelligence and operations planning side of the house.

After that, I am seeking enrollment at Dakota State University in their Doctorate of Science program in Information Systems (Specializing in information security). More to follow!

EZ CD Audio Converter (Because I own a license) is still the first tool in my kit although I can say I haven't installed it in years.

I had actually looked at a tool that used a more tree-like structure and I am debating if that is going to be useful for my processes. I had looked at myBase before but wasn't really drawn to it. While I do rely on a tree style architecture for things like email, I found the process cumbersome to add things in/out of this database.

I am really interested in thoughts on how people use this software so I can look at new ways to think about it. I have had a lot of random thoughts that I need to somehow relate so I can see where the major focus areas are in an attempt to focus my research efforts on my thesis (and later, hopefully, my dissertation). I will check out MyInfo none-the-less as perhaps I may be able to go back to that style of tracking.

Thanks!

Thread necro powers, activate, form of...Graduate Thesis Student!

Vurbal,

I am interested to see how your quest to organize your thoughts has turned out as it seems you and I share a similar mind. I was wondering what you found and what you see as the strengths in such a product. I am not officially underway on my thesis in my Master of Science in Information Assurance course, with the ultimate goal being a Doctorate of Science in Information Systems to follow. As such, I am looking for a way to keep all of these random ideas and thoughts that populate in the tangled mess I call my brain somewhat organized. Have you had any luck?
