General Software Discussion / Re: Blog steals Zaine's Great Software List
« Last post by tinyvillager on November 16, 2007, 03:37 AM »
I guess if you scroll down to the bottom of the article it includes a link to the source.

Don't know if it was originally there, none the less given the horrible cut and paste job it's nearly invisible.
That, and how many people cut and paste the whole article,as apposed to just linking. If you find an article
on a newspaper site would you copy the whole article and paste it on your own site ? I wouldn't.Do that
with an AP article or any commercial news outlet and they can sue.

What the heck is that about?

Either a sheepish mindset or favoritism

On a side note,...

Do you have adobe air installed ?

Check your common files in the Program files folder,i had a similar problem last week.Flash 9 wouldn't install on IE,drove me nuts.

I uninstalled adobe air, used adobe uninstalled flash programs, and scanned for anything named macromedia and flash
9 with RegSeeker.

I think between adobe air and all these flash beta's adobe is kind of making things clunky.

In short i would just sleuth through the whole machine, registry, windows system32 folder,C:\Documents and Settings, and kill anything to do with adobe, and macromedia. That's what fixed it with me.

General Software Discussion / Re: opera 9.5 beta out
« Last post by tinyvillager on October 27, 2007, 05:01 PM »
Using right now.Not bad.I didn't bother with the alphas.I've got a couple of glitches (don't know if their changes or bugs) i submitted them to Opera none the less. When deleting private data through the tools menu drop down,it reloads my speed dials,i don't like that, wasn't like that before. And when browsing through folders while inside the managing bookmark screen, folders seem a little "sticky" slow to draw.Just a few mild complaints.I've said it before,i never paid for this browser when it was pay,but now i would definately pay now that it's free. :D

General Software Discussion / Defraggler, add another defragger to the list
« Last post by tinyvillager on September 17, 2007, 06:03 AM »
http://www.defraggler.com/

Cut and paste...

"From everyone here at Piriform, the company that brought you CCleaner and Recuva... we now bring you a file defragmentation tool... Defraggler!

It differs from other defrag tools on the market, by enabling you to quickly and simply defrag the files you want to, without having to process the whole drive. Simply run it, select the file and defragment in seconds. No more struggling with the Windows defragmentation tool!

And remember like all Piriform products, Defraggler is completely free for both corporate and individual use."

He hasn't posted the download yet,but I thought everyone would like to check it out.
Piriform has yet to let me down.

Living Room / Re: Microsoft patches applied - EVEN WHEN AUTOUPDATE IS OFF
« Last post by tinyvillager on September 13, 2007, 09:32 PM »
Microsoft is shoving their Live update doo-hicky down your throat if you want to keep up to date with their other products,it's basically a Google pack clone. At least google let's you still download apps without it.

If you want to download their IM client,Writer (blog tool),etc. You have to do it through an update console where they try to sell on the ideal of all their other stuff. Not cool!

I subscribe to all the Microsoft employees rss feeds too and you should see how they all fall into lock-step.
"It great !" "It revolutionary!" Hooray!

I love XP pro and i'd most likely like a lot of other products if Microsoft wouldn't hide them behind walls, they come so close...then shoot themselves in the foot.

Anyone know if this build supports the new Silverlight that went final today,i'm lazy. That and holding off til beta.
47

 Super sweet !

I have to admit i'm not going to touch it til it goes beta at least.I dig Opera,it seems as a company they listen
to their users.Ironicly, for a browser i wouldn't pay for back in the day i would pay for now.I wonder how they
generate money ?

It basically caches whatever goes through you browser.

I think the old version of Net Transport ,which was freeware, should still be able to grab those streams.

And for MMS streams,SDP

I agree with the too much flair thing.I sometimes don't think having your content submitted to social communities is
a good thing, cause some social communities are filled up to their eyeballs with drive-by ass-hats.

P.S.
Jeff Atwood is an interesting writer.
