Thanks.  I only need raw storage but if it comes with web-hosting or other stuff that's fine.  BTW, I'm not looking for ftp-only, just something that is ftp capable.  I will check them out.

I have seen a few discussions on DC about online data backup.  However, I am interested to know if anyone has had any experience, good or bad, with any of the sites that permit data to be transferred by ftp.

My primary purpose is to store 10GB to 50GB of files that I can access while I am traveling.  (I already have external HD backup at home).  I am not real concerned about security but I do want it to be reliable.

Must haves:
- FTP capability to upload and download data
- Reliability of service
- Not super expensive

Not important:
- High quality syncing or sophisticated backup capabilities.  Just data storage.

Does anyone have experience with drivehq.com or filesanywhere.com?

Thanks,
jdd

Perfect!     It dosn't maximize Firefox anymore. Thanks.

It works in Windows Explorer but not my preferred file manager which is XPlorer2.  When I try it in XPlorer2, it maximizes my browser (Firefox), and pops open an error message that says "The clipboard timed out".

skwire

Worked like a charm.  However, my preference would be that the script is not always running in the tray.

Is it possible to add an option so that the script can be executed as an alias in FARR, and closes after the shortcut is created on the desktop?
31
I use Autohotkey.  Can you translate the script from AutoIt?

Eóin: When I right click on a file, it takes approximately 5 seconds for the context menu to open.  Any idea why this would happen.  I have a 2-yr old Dell lap top with decent processor and 2 gig RAM running with Windows XP .

PhilB66:  Thanks for the suggestions but they do not do what I am looking for.  All of them involve using context menu or multiple steps which is what am trying to avoid.

33
It would be very helpful to have an autohotkey script which sends a shortcut to the desktop.

In other words, if a file is highlighted in Windows Explorer and I run the script (i.e. run the script in FARR) , it will create a shorcut on the destop.  I realize that I can right click on the file and use SendTo in the context menu but this process is very, very slow on my machine.  :-[

Thanks,
jdd

Can you provide the option to have the warning appear:

1. only on battery, or
2. only on AC, or
3. both

General Software Discussion / Re: PDF's
« Last post by jdd on February 23, 2010, 08:05 PM »
I have been looking for a long time for a program that will shrink/compress a pdf file and just came across this post.  The program that SKA mentioned called PDFShrinK 4.5 http://www.apagoinc.com/prod_home.php?prod_id=36 is incredible.  It has the capability to reduce most of the files I tested to a fraction of the original size with very little loss in resolution.  Great find!!!

You may want to consider another option if you are working with huge MS Office documents such as Word or Powerpoint.

I use a program called NXPowerlite  which will compress Word documents with pictures and tables to a small fraction of the original file size and maintain pretty good resolution.  These can be saved as compressed Office files or converted into much smaller PDF's than would have occurred with the original file.

Agreed.  The only thing worse than that is someone furiously pounding away on a keyboard with all 10 digits!  :P

Josh / Mouser,  Can you move this post to the official FARR Feature Request thread?

Thanks,

OK, I tried CloseMany again.  In order to close multiple instances, one must hit the "Kill" button instead of the "Close" button.  That worked.
42
Lanux, CloseMany will only close one instance at a time.    You cannot close multiple items even if you highlight multiple entries.

I'm not exactly sure what I did wrong the first time but I saved the zip file to my desktop.  Then I opened the zip file and ran the executable without extracting it to a folder.

I normally type pretty slowly using a hunt and peck hybrid.  However, I can type pretty fast when I send text messages on my cell phone using the 'T9 Word' entry mode.  Is there a keyboard design that incorporates that kind of layout?

I gave up on Dopus.  Too complex for me.

UltraExplorer (free) is fast, multi-tabbed, and intuitively customizable.  http://www.mustangpe...aexplorer/index.html  It has a search function which I believe may meet your requirements, as best I can understand your requirements.

Mateek,  I had a similar issue.  Try this.

Create a folder somewhere that you do not intend to move.  Extract the contents of the zip file to the folder.  Run the 'Files 2 Folder - Unregister shell extension' shortcut to remove what you have already installed.  Then, run the 'Files2Folder.exe' executable.  Answer yes.  Do NOT move the folder or anything in it to another location.  Should work now.  At least...........it worked for me.
47
Except that the tasks can only be closed one at a time so it's a nuisance to close 25 instances of the same program by making 25 right-click and close gestures.
48
There are occasions when I have to open many instances of the same program such as 10 Excel spreadheets or 25 jpg files.  I would like to request an ahk that would only close the many instances of the selected program but NOT the other programs that are also open.

Thanks,
jdd

I am using Windows XP pro.  The file extension "Files 2 Folder" shows up when I right click on one or more files but nothing happens.  No new folder is created.  There is nothing to tick or untick.  What am I doing wrong?
