General Software Discussion / simple file (dll) searcher
« Last post by spacedad on August 20, 2014, 03:55 PM »
I'm looking for an easy way to search my vst plugins folder for .dll's only.
so i just type in 'sam' and all the dlls with 'sam' in show up.
I'm using win7,and a sequencer called energyXT,but my vst folder is too big and is slowing down the program,so I've been searching in win7,then you can drag n drop the dll onto the sequencer,
but win7 search brings up all manner of files (txt, sem, wav etc) too.
I've been trying out various freeware searchers, but can't seem to make them search only for dlls.
they have 'filters' which exclude, but don't include file extentions.
it could be me not grasping the rules.
but a special vstplugin searcher would be cool,it could supply other useful info eg:developer/company name/instrument or effect/number of audio/midi ins and outs.
but a very simple window with a one-click search would be great.

thanks for your reply iain,
i know about the right-click details, but they only show kbps, which i'm not sure i know what that is?(each file seems to be different?)
what i would find more useful is the bit rate: 8/16/24 or 32bit,also the sample rate 44100k/48000k etc.
most wave players/samplers will only play certain files eg: 16 or 24 bit, some may support 32 or more, but it would be useful to be able to check without loading into a wave editor first.
also some music apps only operate at 44100k so will play files of 48000 or larger incorrectly, again, the only way to find out is load them into a wave editor.

a few years ago i had an app which allowed rick-click but i can't remember what it is.

can't remember which app,but before i got win7 i used to be able to right-click and see audio file bit rate details.
now the details aren't much use,you don't even get proper sample rate detail.
would this be do-able?
cheers,
gary.

hi ak_ is why is filenanny not listed in the downloads sections?
i wanted to let people know about it and this thread was a bit hard to find, and i noticed it wasn't on your site either.
it is free for all ,isn't it? you don't need to be a member of donationcoder?
not a problem if you do,cos i think it's a great site a lot of people i know would like to know about.
i did donate for filenanny and hope to get a few more for you.
