Oops! Now, I remember asking this question before.

What I wanted to do was on the last link.
It won't work in Word, so I copied the script and played around with it on gmail.
It didn't work there either, but that is only because I don't really know what to do with a script, yet.
Last time I inquired about this, someone else sent me that same link and I chickened out.
I wouldn't even try to learn how to use it.
I'm a little more motivated, now. I really like that feature.
Also, now that my computer is in working order, I'm a little more open to trying new things.

I've bookmarked the script link for later, and when I have more time (in mid-March), I'll certainly come back and ask for some references to instructions on how to actually implement a script.

what a wonderful & kind gesture that is!

You're helping me & my boyfriend have a good time (I won't be worrying about her 'cause I can spoil the sitter  ).
You're helping an aging animal get the attention and affection she's used to, AND
You're helping the cat-sitter by helping to fill the fridge for her / him!

Your suggestion for me to take my own advice is what helped me to make up my mind, and go with the cat sitter, regardless of the cost.
So, I told my bf & he is paying for it...I don't know what he's giving up in order to do it, but I know it's a lot. Thanks to you, now I can thank the sitter in advance with a really nice tip, food, or anything to make them comfortable and to feel at home here  . What a great and unexpected contribution! You rock!

Hi,

What is the reveal hide feature here? It it a script that I can use in an email, web mail or Outlook?

I want it!!!!

The history & reasons:

I used to work at IBM and write step-by-step instructions for employees.

We all used Lotus Notes, which allowed me to create reveal / hide sections for each step of the instructions. That was very useful, as some employees required much less assistance than others. Anyone could just click on the section that pertained to them, follow the instructions and be done with it.

The emails appeared clean and concise, saved people time and in some cases confusion.

I would really like to make emails like that again. Thanks.

If anyone knows of a book on this subject, here's the problem:

I need my very controlling, narcissistic dad to cat sit for me for my upcoming trip to France.
Whenever he takes care of her, he refuses to accept any tips from me & yells, "Don't tell me what to do, I know how to take care of a cat".

She has me practically 24 hrs. a day & he stays about 10 minutes with her, twice a day.
When I get home, she is depressed & lethargic (he won't play with her), greasy, (???), sleeping in corners facing the walls & has hairballs (he won't brush her & is happy to tell me so).

He says he'll cat sit, but when I kindly carefully asked him if he could spend a little more time (like, 10 minutes more each trip) with her, he blew up. He feels very put out & complains about it in an angry tone. He says he'll do it as he always does, the way he wants, but I'm not to call him & check on her anymore  .

When I did call in the past, all he'd say is, "I'm petting her. She's alive".

He says if he were in my position, he wouldn't ask him for any requests, as I owe him so much for him taking care of her in the first place & I am so lucky he's doing it at all.

It's been my experience that it's best to avoid accepting help from anyone who resents the favor they're doing for you.

I cannot afford a sitter & am re-considering even going on my trip at all.

If anyone hs read this in its entirety, thank you so much for listening. I know it's "off topic", the question was, "What are you reading", not "...and why are you reading it?" Anyway, if anyone knows any books that can help me, ruthless, ill willed or otherwise, please make your suggestion. Thank you again.I really love my cat, she is my constant companion.

However, I must admit that it takes me quite a while to compose even the simplest post. Edit, edit, edit...
If I only had that kind of time when responding to others verbally.

Side note: I read both books today.
The tactics discussed might work on people of average intelligence & respectable values, but they've got nothing on my subject.
He is way ahead of the game.
So, tomorrow at the book store, I'll be moving from the Self-Help section on to the Psychology section...What a project this is.
I've also read, "Dealing with Difficult People", and can now say with complete confidence that these authors have yet to encounter a truly difficult person. (Sorry, but the girl in the copy room who ignores me when I need help just doesn't meet my criteria as a "difficult person".)
In any case, I have one more book to try, "The Art of Manipulation". (Talk about sinking morals and values. Eeessshh...)

Because the titles, "Get Anyone to do Anything" & "How to Change Anybody" sound pretty desperate. IMO.

They're really just harmless little books. Just, you know, tips & tricks...
Other than to catch your attention, I don't know why he titles his books so dramatically.
There's no hypnosis, NLP, mind control tactics, spells or anything like that.
I need something that will work this time  .

I'm reading Full Catastrophe Living.
It's boring, but thankfully it came with a very effective class I took, recently: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).

I'm also reading 2 David Lieberman books which have titles too embarrassing to post - which is too bad, because they're simply about human nature, & how to turn bad (or potentially bad) situations around. Each book has a chapter on a certain dilemma - how to make people feel more empowered, stop gossiping, get into a better mood, feel more confident, etc. Another book is based more on groups & how to get people to get along with each other, stop jealous behavior & verbal abuse, cultivate respect for themselves & one another, help each other out, etc. They're quick, easy reads that attempt to simplify complicated situations or destructive behavior between people - even difficult people - all without hurting anyone, or being secretly, selfishly manipulative.

I think it's good info for people like myself, who enjoy very much getting along with others, but who've found themselves holding back constructive empathy or helpfulness out of fear (or experience) of getting taken advantage of, later on. Perhaps these quick solutions can help others like myself promote harmonious relationships, and express kindness and caring, while still being heard and respected.

(Sorry, it's late. I guess that could've been worded a little better, huh?)

I use Firefox because when I was having difficulties with IE, f0dder suggested I switch.
It's faster, easier and features /add ons/ plug ins like No Script & pop-up blocker have really improved my overall browsing experience.
I really like Sxipper & Scrapbook is nice, too (although I wish I could find a way to edit the saved content).
I don't think I need many more extensions, etc., as the browser, as it is now, is just great.

Valentine's Day really does mean nothing to some people. Many people share your opinion.
As long as both people feel the same way, that's great.

But, if it means anything to a loved one, even if it's only because of stupid social pressures, who cares about commercialism or corporate greed?

In my twenties & thirties, I watched flowers being delivered to my co-workers. Year after year.
But I never once got flowers or a card from my former long-time boyfriend. He cared more about the evils of Hallmark than my feelings.
He knew how much I would have appreciated just a simple card, not to mention flowers, like the other girls at work.
But, it was the whole day he resented, and he just couldn't seem to get past it. Weak.
I guess he loved me, but this was not a good example of it.

If you don't like Valentine's Day, but your loved one does, a selfless, loving gesture would be to drop your politics, give them a little something (flowers, card, whatever) & make their day. You might even end up getting a special surprise, too  .
Granted, it is on the day you may be expected to show love, but other than that, I don't see any harm in it .

One year, while browsing the Valentine's Day cards in the drug store, I realized that they make these cards for everyone. Parents, kids, grandparents, friends, in-laws, you name it. So, I started sending my mom & my sister's husband's dad Valentine's Day cards. I'd buy special pens & big fancy cards for them & make a whole big thing of it. I'd sit down and really take my time, and write in them how much I loved them, and why. They loved getting these cards!! More than birthday cards, Christmas cards or any other cards. I could hear it in their voices when they called to say thanks.

Don't be sad...you can change it from a lover's day to a loving day and really take (and give) pleasure in doing so.

Well, you may as well lower your expectations. Most people are lazy.
Standards for writing seemed to have dropped considerably over the past few years.
Even CNN & MSNBC are guilty of this, but no one seems to care.

As long as it's not being pointed out to writers, it will just become more and more accepted.
I think Carol has described this before as, 'entropy'.

Personally, grammar & punctuation errors only bother me if I sense that a post is inconsiderate to the reader, in general.
Infrequent errors are inevitable, but lack of structure, rambling, etc., are signs of thoughtlessness IMO.
It's the writer's job - not the reader's - to make a post or article understandable.

If you use IE, saving as MHT will grab the whole page and save everything (text, images, css, js). If you use FF, scrapbook will work very well. It DOES save files locally, on your hard drive.

You may also want to use one of the web archive to see if you can find the page again:

Nonetheless, I really appreciate it. It's better than what I have on my computer!

Saving the photos from the blog might be more interesting anyway, that way I can see close-ups of her work.
Is there any reliable way to save a blog in its intended format? Or at least the pictures? Is saving a blog the same as saving a website?

Do you mean when you go back to save a second version of a page that it overwrites the previous version?
mhtml should open in IE or Opera - have you tried opening the various files with different browsers?
If you save file as Web Page, complete (that's how it's described in FF at any rate), it should save the images in a folder with the same name as the file name - is it possible you moved the html file but left the associated folder somewhere?
I used to save web pages & had problems with mht but not with others

Thank you for all of your replies.

I went into my Mom>Website folder on my drive, and every page I saved has lost its formatting & pictures.
After I saved 2 pages as jpgs, I tried mhtm & it worked. So I went with it.
htm files contain little red dots or the word, "Image" or "Logo" or where the pictures use to be.

In the saved mht files, the pictures are there but the formatting is gone.
In the saved htm files, the pictures and the formatting is gone.

Firefox: I like Scrapbook, but last month FF bookmarks, when I tested them, would not import back into FF 5 minutes after I exported them.
I had someone much more skilled than I try to make this work and they couldn't do it, either.
I had also saved these pages in Scrapbook but at that point, I was so distracted that I forgot to try to save Scrapbook data prior to reformatting.
Also left behind were the files that FF buries somewhere in users/roaming.

Other software: I'm OK with having to acquire software that would have made this easier. I gladly paid $175 for Net Snippets, because I could fully understand it, but they went out of business when Vista was released. I looked for another program to replace it, but couldn't find anything that simple.

I thought my computer would save the pages, as there exists the command, "Save."
 

So, that may be a lost cause. But, there is still the blog containing photos of her work.
When I open that folder, here's what I see:



So I guess I need a software if I want to save the contents of the blog.

Is it necessary to have a program to save web pages? Not even web sites, just pages????????
Not in Scrapbook, but as files on your drive?

I just tried to view the pages I saved from my mom's old web site, which is now gone.
As I expected, the images are gone, the formatting is gone, everything but the text and links are gone.
Having zero faith that saving these pages was going to work at all, I saved each one in htm, html, word, & mhtml.
I figured one of them had to work.

And it still didn't work! I can't even show the before/after images. There befores are gone.

What in the world is the problem? Why do they even allow to save a web page when it's not going to work, anyway?

File, save as has never worked for me, with web pages, which is why I saved them in every possible format.

The only one that looks right is the .jpg screenshot I took - which clearly I should have done with all of them.

Is there any way to restore them? Is there anything hidden in the code which would allow me to get the original formatting and pictures back?
Does save as work for anyone? Am I going to continue to have to take screenshots?

Please help, I know this post is written badly but I am sooooo frustrated and mad at myself for not taking screenshots of these pages. I knew better than to trust a computer to do anything more advanced than that.

Lashiec, certainly you understand that not every user is a power user, and very few are as knowledgeable as you all are here on this forum.

A PC is such a pain in the ass to use and get it running smoothly.  Very few people have the ability, patience, and willpower to do it.  We're not the norm here.

Huh? I run into problems all the time. We blame Windows because we cannot fix something if we don't know what's broken. We only know the results. Most of us don't even understand some of the error messages Windows gives.

What is doing "whatever they want"? Installing software? Allowing a Windows update, but not having the driver needed to download the other driver needed to finish it? Starting or shutting down the PC & hoping the system can do it in less than 5 minutes? How it it that the average user is supposed to know how to get around issues like these?

Yesterday, Infran View crashed every time I started it and Paint has not worked in months.
If I had a child, let alone a full-time job, I would never be able to sit here, research and repair repair this.
I've spent hours on this Paint problem & have given up - my life is passing me by! Others simply do not have this kind of time.

My dad is afraid to do anything remotely adventurous on his laptop...

Same here. And he's really smart. Many intelligent people I talk to won't do a lot of things we consider basic, they don't want problems.

I'd also like to add the frustration of going to a software site for support, only to be directed to a forum.
Did you know that even if the search is performed properly by a user, that they don't always work?

Nobody should be obligated to spend large amounts of time scouring the internet for solutions to such problems.
So, please try and see this from an average user's point of view.

I'm looking for a place where I can rent a mac to see if I want to make The Switch as well.
These problems are getting old.

Well, being into computers, and since you like home improvement projects, my hands tremble    just thinking of the other fun stuff your home certainly must feature - AI security, fridge/pantry/bar monitors, incredible home entertainment system, automatic on/off water sensors (with pre-programmed temperature settings), HE washer/dryer (with a 'sanitize' option  ), a dry vapor steam cleaner(!!!!!), revolving clothes closet, etc. etc. Aaagghh! I can barely type now...
