I have to say this list is my fave of your top 10s -- i laughed out loud several times.

I can see why im not the only one who was wondering if you weren't just pasting these from a joke email and forgetting to give credit to the comedian.  very well done

i think we should include one of Ralf's top 10 lists in each newsletter from now on if that's ok

This is the 3rd or 4th pc I've built and the first time I am having issues.

sounds like your first 3 pcs need to be rebuilt -- if you didn't have issues with each of them, you are not doing this build-your-own-pc thing right.  :P

Nice find -- most of these sound reasonable to me, and i like the focus on #1 bad idea being Default Permit, which kind of permeates the others.

I don't really get why #4 is on that list though.  In fact i think that #4, which deals with "hacking", should really be seen as "red teaming", which not only isn't a dumb idea, but an extraordinarily good idea.

ok well if it shows all but farralttab then i'm guessing it has to do with farralttab being .net.. but still dont know why.

Nice post -- i love how you added the list of related dc threads.

Personally i use and love Roboform for web logins and filling out web forms but don't use it (not sure why) for other general purpose password storage.

However, when I do as tinjaw has suggested it works fine UNTIL I right click on something/anything. Then the focus of the magnified area goes to the place where I've right clicked or the top of the context menu which that may have launched.

If you uncheck all of the tracking boxes it shouldn't move should it?

Maybe you need to come up with a time/work management "system" that you can stick with?

ps.
nudone that seems like is a good strategy to me.

You kind of mixed two questions in your posts -- one was about time spent learning vs. coding -- i answered that one, the easy one.

The second question was how to stop spending so much time on the web.  That's a problem that has haunted men since the stone ages..

Everyone loves 80/20 rules and it feels about right to me when you get to the stage where you are programming as a profession:
  • 80% of your time should be spent doing (coding)
  • 20% of your time should be spent learning new things

nice idea.. i know there are some web pages and program that do something like this..
maybe a website service which send emails every time package tracking info changed would be preferable?

have you looked at existing software for this?

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New C# FARR Plugin: FARRAltTab
« Last post by mouser on November 27, 2007, 09:20 AM »
This may be a FARR bug.. because the text in the statusbar shows that basically it's not still "searching", so i think what's happened is that the plugin is returning no results so the result should be blank, but farr is still showing the results from the previous search for "tab do".

I'm not 100% sure what the real uses for this would be, but a nice generic solution would be a program with 2 "regions", or rather a window and a region selector.  The window could be placed and sized as desired, and would display the contents of the selected region, which could be moved anywhere.

So basically this is like a "magnification" tool, except that it can before enlargement or reduction, and doesn't follow the cursor, but rather shows the content of a selected region on your screens.

I wouldn't be surprised if such a program didn't already exist.. if someone finds it (or writes it!) please post.

Could be useful for given presentation talks, etc.
