For me, a real programming language is something you'll get an executable file from. Thus, Java is none either.  :D

Ahem. Delphi certainly does have a framework -- that's what BCL is. I think what you mean is that Delphi doesn't have any kind of virtual machine or abstraction layer in which it runs.
Ah, yes. Sorry, phrasing FAIL.  :)

it's worthwhile noting that it was designed by the lead designer of C#, Anders Hejlsberg.
So what's wrong with that guy now?

javascript lends itself well to dynamic programming techniques that you might expect to need a Python or Ruby for.
None of these are programming languages. There is some structural difference, right?

What bullshit are you referring to?
Like answering "Javascript" when you're asked for your favorite programming language.  :P

I just can't come up with an idea for a worthwhile project to do in Python.
AFAIK you can use it for hacking and stuff. But that's not a good reason, is it?

A lifetime license will pay off indeed. A few Euros for infinite improvement.  :-*

I love it when the first postings in topics about a programming language contain bullshit about scripting languages...

But OK, I'll append mine then:

My favorite programming language is C++.
Java and C# are sluggish, resource hogging nonsense to me, while Delphi (which I actually like because it doesn't need a framework of any kind) is not a part of my knowledge...

Shorties:
My favorite description language is HTML with all needed extensions.
My favorite general scripting language is PHP, because I just don't know Perl and Python...
My favorite application scripting language depends. I know a few of them.

You might want to apologize for calling µTorrent bloated.
No.  :P

However, the choice of a P2P client for a certain network is mostly a matter of personal favors. Mine is different. Is that, at least, OK for everyone?

while the executable is still tiny (a lot smaller than halite, iirc - and thus not exe bloat either).
UPX-packed, I presume? So it will be unpacked on runtime -> large overhead.

Didn't read through all of that, so dunno if any conclusion was reached.
Yep, it was: µTorrent systematically leeches non-µTorrent clients.

Yep, it was.

AFAIK this has been removed in recent versions?

Canadians.
2435
Tuxman, nice of you to recommend a client that you've never been able to get working
I didn't recommend Deluge, I said "looks nice". :P
Halite works for me.

whilst criticizing what is so far the most highly recommended client
That doesn't mean it is the best client either, see my comment about its behavior above...
2436
Plus, the installer places the program in the uTorrent Folder so I guess I am right too ;-)
These guys are not even able to spell their own software's name. You see?
2437
Then "mTorrent" would be (almost) right.  :P
2438
It's µ, not u. And did you compare it to Halite? Much more stuff in it. "Bloated".
Additionally, µTorrent is known for unfair behavior...
2439
(Ewwww, BT crap...)

µTorrent is rather bloated, compared to other clients.
+1 for Halite.

Deluge also seems to be fine, but I haven't ever managed to make it work here.

At least French is not a language which is spoken by decadent Victorian warlords.

Just as we in Denmark also learns German, so does the Germans also learn English, if you know what I mean.
Sure, but why is it important then if it is English, German or whatever?

Photoshop is highly recommended for resizing pics
WTF? For resizing?!
OK, that was new to me.

Break a fly on the wheel, eh? Like using Word for keeping notes...

Alright, back to topic.  ;D

nikos released a first public beta of xplorer² 1.8. Seems to have a bunch of useful improvements.  :)

Not everybody is stinking rich or idealist.
Most "pirated" software is something you don't need. You see, people say "hm, I want to edit my holiday pictures, so I'll pirate Photoshop". You use three or four editing functions, nothing else. So why the hell do you want to pirate it? Because you can? Come on...

The same applies to other apps. Can you tell me one application which is urgently important for you and too expensive to buy?

The cool stuff is typically expensive Tuxman. Games, Adobe, MS.
Adobe is not cool, Adobe is bloated crap. I don't know any home user who really needs their stuff.
MS? 100 bucks, not really much, is it?
Games? Which kind of games costs too much for you?

Most do not know much about free or fairly priced alternatives either.
Of course they do, it's just that they don't want to use them. It's more "cool" to say "lol I own Photoshop y00!" instead of "hi I use GIMP" or something. However, I can't get it why anyone has to pirate these apps. I am a proud Open Source and Freeware user and even own some legally bought licenses for a couple of applications (I even spent some money for the Vim developer).

Same goes for illegal software, if done right - and if even possible to avoid risk that way.
Why should anyone try illegal software at all?

Think Rapidshare, p2p, illegal software - some of incomings can be tricky to deal with. Like wanting to "phone home", check serial numbers and such.
Seriously: If you tend to install software from suspicious sources, not even a firewall of any kind can prevent you from serious damage.

PFWs do filter incoming data too, so they are firewalls.
That's not the point of a firewall.

And a PFW can't filter incoming data, as it runs on the system you actually want to protect. Any packet from outside can reach your computer before the PFW actually notices it, right?

A PFW is not a firewall. A firewall is p.d. a system that protects your network from outside.
But you can surely tell me what would be the use of it?

In general, International user-friendliness is not the project's strongest side, it seems.
Developed by a German computer magazine, primarily for German users ... well then.
(You English speaking people do expect that we all have to know English, too, so what?  :P)

Are they all build into the program from scratch?
They are implemented as modules, single script files that can be loaded dynamically. Not actually "built into it".

What do you think a "firewall for Windows" is then?
