(Newser)  – This story about a divorce in the United Arab Emirates begins in not-so-unusual fashion: A wife refuses to sleep with her husband, and he is not pleased. Then it gets weird: She tells him to talk to her parents, who explain that their daughter can't have sex with him because she is, in fact, a supernatural creature called a jinn that the BBC equates to a genie. This results in divorce. But if the excuse was a tall tale, the joke's on the ex-wife, because a court in Dubai ruled that she is not entitled to alimony, reports Gulf News. Reason? She wasn't honest about the genie matter. Neither story is clear about whether this means the court thinks she's lying about being a genie or whether it thinks she should have informed her husband about her genie-ness before the wedding, but either way, she gets no alimony

Do you think I would get more traffic through here if I put a link to here in Silly Humor or are all the people interested in these things already here?

Looks like a bunch of Apple polishers, except for the girl in the center. I went to college in the  early 70's -no laptops or desktops.
That isn't as old as one woman I read about today. She had to lie about her age because Facebook wouldn't accept that she was 113.

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality.jpg

This e-book may be considered fantasy by the people here, but I think they will like it and it is very scientific. You can read it online or download various versions of it, including a PDF version.

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality

Sample texts:

This is the living-room of the house occupied by the eminent Professor Michael Verres-Evans, and his wife, Mrs. Petunia Evans-Verres, and their adopted son, Harry James Potter-Evans-Verres.
There is a letter lying on the living-room table, and an unstamped envelope of yellowish parchment, addressed to Mr. H. Potter in emerald-green ink.
------------------
Harry took a deep breath. "Mum, your parents didn't have magic, did they?"
"No," Petunia said, looking puzzled.
"Then no one in your family knew about magic when Lily got her letter. How did they get convinced?"
"Ah..." Petunia said. "They didn't just send a letter. They sent a professor from Hogwarts. He -" Petunia's eyes flicked to Michael. "He showed us some magic."
"Then you don't have to fight over this," Harry said firmly. Hoping against hope that this time, just this once, they would listen to him. "If it's true, we can just get a Hogwarts professor here and see the magic for ourselves, and Dad will admit that it's true. And if not, then Mum will admit that it's false. That's what the experimental method is for, so that we don't have to resolve things just by arguing."
--------------------
Harry was breathing in short gasps. His voice came out choked. "You can't DO that!"
"It's only a Transfiguration," said Professor McGonagall. "An Animagus transformation, to be exact."
"You turned into a cat! A SMALL cat! You violated Conservation of Energy! That's not just an arbitrary rule, it's implied by the form of the quantum Hamiltonian! Rejecting it destroys unitarity and then you get FTL signalling! And cats are COMPLICATED! A human mind can't just visualise a whole cat's anatomy and, and all the cat biochemistry, and what about the neurology? How can you go on thinking using a cat-sized brain?"
--------------------
"Well," Professor McGonagall sighed, after Harry's parents had composed themselves and returned. "Well. I think, under the circumstances, that I should avoid taking you to purchase your study materials until a day or two before school begins."
"What? Why? The other children already know magic, don't they? I have to start catching up right away!"
"Rest assured, Mr. Potter," replied Professor McGonagall, "Hogwarts is quite capable of teaching the basics. And I suspect, Mr. Potter, that if I leave you alone for two months with your schoolbooks, even without a wand, I will return to this house only to find a crater billowing purple smoke, a depopulated city surrounding it and a plague of flaming zebras terrorising what remains of England."

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows 10 Announced

After 24 hours of using Windows 10, as a tablet user, it is an incremental improvement on Windows 8.1.  The biggest improvement is that my Pro 3's WiFi now works without issues. Right now Windows 10 is not a HUGE revolutionary jump that would merit skipping a whole major version number.  That said Microsoft had at least two good reasons for that, one of marketing and one which is technical.  For non touch users or those who follow the myth that every other Windows release will suck (without even giving them a try) Windows 10 will be the tolerable touchable Windows. The real reasons to skip the name Windows 9 are legacy code and marketing.

BWAHAHAHA! That was good! Post it in the humour thread!

That is why I thought of the "semi-silly stuff" thread. Not all of the pictures I have like that are as lightly humorous as that and I wanted to avoid complaint that they weren't silly enough for silly humor.

The possible problem is not whether they will find it better, it is whether they will find it compatible with the programs they use and easily usable. These people want to continue what they have been doing with as little transition trouble as possible. They will have to transfer to it sooner or later, the question is when and with what problems.

The acid test will be when somebody who has used only Win XP or 7 installs it or gets a machine with it new and tries it out.
