General Software Discussion / Re: Vivideo editor includes FLV editing
« Last post by Curt on April 13, 2012, 02:35 AM »
The 'Vivideo' name didn't catch, so the new version 3 has been renamed to Wondershare Video Editor.

Today only merely $9.95 (plus VAT): http://www.wondersha...away-of-the-day.html (scroll a little),
because "Express" kid-brother is on Giveawayoftheday (save $35): http://www.giveawayo...eo-studio-express12/

Again, these offers should have your interest if you want to mix flash videos with "normal" video formats. Normally you would probably want to use a more advanced editor, but I don't know of any other low priced editor that can edit .FLV like Wondershare's can. Do you know of any?

General Software Discussion / Pinta: Painting Made Simple for coders
« Last post by Curt on April 11, 2012, 01:10 PM »
Pinta is a free, open source drawing/editing program modeled after Paint.NET. Its goal is to provide users with a simple yet powerful way to draw and manipulate images on Linux, Mac, and Windows.
-Pinta

Pinta requires both .NET 4 and Gtk# installed (on Windows), or Mono (for Mac), which is why I not am going to test it. NET, yes, Gtk, no! But that is just my opinion about Gtk.

The reason I am telling about Pinta is the extensions. Pinta is really made with one special feature in mind: it must be as easy as possible for coders to write extensions for Pinta. But Visual Studio (or MonoDevelop) is necessary. The page >Getting Started Writing an Extension - Pinta< tells step by step how to do.

-thanks,  NewKreation.
I knew about the program but not about the site; now a useful shortcut

A problem with this middle-click is of course that it is not a global feature, but for Explorer only; Ethervane ActiveHotkeys and other similar scanners cannot find it.
Besides:

This application does not work correctly on 64-bit versions of Windows. Use it on 32-bit versions only.

The mouse middle-click feature did not come from Windows:

Keyboard shortcuts for Windows

2392
even worse situation: You (ehmmm...: "I"!) know that Windows wants to reboot, but you install a large recovery program, and and makes an Uninstaller_Pro do the installation. You re-boot, and the Uninstaller_Pro scans and now has a wrong idea of the program you installed. You ("I") use Uninstaller_Pro to remove the recovery program, and puff!!! Windows is no longer available!

At least that is how I imagine it happened, when I lost my Vista.

Thanks for the reminder,mouser!

I don't know but I don't think Middle-click (in white area in Explorer) => "Go to parent folder" is a native Explorer shortcut hotkey in Win 7 - but my Explorer has it. I don't like it; Double-left-click is already giving the exact same effect. I #feel# certain Microsoft did not give me two almost identical accelerator keys for the same feature, so I #guess# the hotkey must have come from some program I have been trialing but now have removed; I have searched all installed programs to look for hotkey settings.

So my question is, how can I now remove this unwanted feature? I wanted to test Folder Menu 3 that uses Middle-click in Explorer (and on the desktop) to open its menu, but it would only seldom do so, most of the time Explorer would jump to the mother-folder instead. I was of course hoping FM3 would override Explorer, but that only happened a few times.

On the Internet I have found several articles on how to change keyboard shortcuts, but I have not found any relevant article regarding the mouse's wheel. So I need to ask you guys:
How to remove middle-click hotkey from Explorer?  :tellme:

General Software Discussion / Re: HowTo open Explorer with admin rights?
« Last post by Curt on April 10, 2012, 08:36 AM »
-thanks a lot, tomos

I #imagine/think# that the folders I was denied access to, really doesn't exist! I now think they are leftovers from the previous OS, a 32-bit Vista system. But I have deleted what I could find from Vista, when there were no more private files to recover, so these system folders are empty, because they link to something I have deleted. I #guess# this is why I am denied access; it is not as much a question of rights, but a question of me requesting Explorer to open something that really doesn't exist. As an example: to my understanding, "C:\Documents and Settings" is not a part of Windows 7, but surely must be leftovers from XP > Vista?

So maybe I can now be cool about this little weird problem of mine; it doesn't exist!

I found an answer, but it is both a little difficult and dangerous: http://social.techne...2-8e98-0bc715e7f641/ so I am not going to try it yet.

-----------

Right+Click, select Run as Administrator.

I am not sure it happens in Real Life...:

Windows 7 Explorer uses a DCOM based start method which prevents you from running Windows Explorer elevated.

It should be said that Andre.Ziegler is the same guy who gave the linked (dangerous) solution.

(...) the combination of QTTabBar, ClassicShell and FolderMenu v3, the W7 Explorer does pretty much everything I want. (...)

+1

-except that I am using QTTabbar 1.5 Beta 2, StExBar, Hyperionics FileBox eXtender (FbX), Better File Rename, TeraCopy Pro, and ShellToys. I do not love Windows 7, but these makes me prefer Explorer over Directory Opus 10 and XYplorer, that I have keys for. But of course I must now re-test Xplorer2; I have forgotten why I didn't like it.

I also saw that the Run: box in Start gives Explorer Admin's rights,
-and that I have been confusing myself by forgetting that Hidden system folders were being displayed, and what have we   not. Should have gone to bed some sooner yesterday. Just forget this thread for now!
