« Last post by mouser on April 19, 2008, 04:54 PM »
CHS does use dbisam, so it could be CHS -- but it's hard to know without more clues..  Hard to see why it would happen out of the blue.  See if CHS is behaving normally otherwise.  Does it create new clips when you copy new stuff, etc.? Have you been using it successfully in other circumstances?

for those wondering what the habanero savina reference is about (is anyone actually wondering?), when i went to buy my monthly tofu supply at the asian food store i saw a bad of *unlabeled* baby mini wrinkled red+orange pepper looking things.

Then yesterday i minced up some miscelaneous hot and sweet peppers and added them to my pot.  i took a little nibble of each one, some were hot.  then i remembered the little wrinkled mini red+organge guys in the unlabeled bag.  i took out a few, washed and minced them, added them to pot, took a nibble of one piece.  then my lips and mouth started to go on fire and i rushed to the refrigerator looking for milk and yoghurt, etc.  it was extremely painful.  thats when i got on the web and idenified my enemy and learned about savina habanero.

Actually by far the worst thing was not the pain in my mouth, it was the intense burning in my hands that has lasted almost 24 hours.  Crazy!

chs only works with plaintext at this moment -- if you select and copy some richtext stuff, formatting will be lost when you paste.

Had a nearby 5.4mag earthquake yesterday (and again this morning) and while looking for info I found this really cool site listing up-to-the-minute earthquake details in the USA.

It's crazy to see how many small earthquakes occur every day, and this site is updated FAST, within minutes.  You can also get cool info by following the links for any given quake.

The most important thing about this is to appreciate my brilliant sense of humour:

<@mouser> when it happened i ran into the living room and my cat ran in from another direction too
<@mouser> we both looked at each other like
<@mouser> wtf!

DonationCoder's Screenshot Captor won the recommendation for Best Screenshot tool for Advanced Users (for Personal Users since it's judged to be non-free for commercial use, which is true for non-small-home-businesses).

UrlSnooper / Re: Anyone know how to???
« Last post by mouser on April 17, 2008, 05:56 AM »
If you need help with some problem vasextomy we can try to help.
You can uninstall Url Snooper by going to the Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Add / Remove Programs, and choosing to uninstall Url Snooper.  You could also uninstall WinPcap the network driver if that seems to be giving you some trouble (it's really the only thing that could conceivably cause any trouble on your PC).

www.stackoverflow.com is a new site by Jeff Atwood (of Coding Horror fame).

I love the CodingHorror blog, and so i have high hopes for stackoverflow.com.

If you visit the new site you'll see its just a white page with a download for the first recorded interview between Jeff and Joel Spolsky.

The description of the site below is a bit confusing.. except that the site is a collaboration between Jeff and Joel Spolsky.  That comes as a bit of a shock to me since i have come to view joel as a very smart writer but someone who has become almost a charicature of a blogger, being almost entirely focused on self promotion.  Jeff Atwood has written repeatedly about joel in unfavorable (though always respectful terms), so this comes as somewhat of a shock to me seeing them collaborate, and it does make me a bit apprehensive about the effort.

Jeff seems to know this team up is going to cause some confusion because he talks about the importance of talking with people who disagree with each other.  I guess my problem is not at all that i disagree with Joel when he writes about technical issues, which he does so well.  My problem with Joel is that everything he touches gives you that slimey feeling you get when you talk to a telemarketer on the phone who pretends to be interested in your life until they get to the part where they want your money.

From the CodingHorror blog:
So what is stackoverflow?

From day one, my blog has been about putting helpful information out into the world. I never had any particular aspirations for this blog to become what it is today; I'm humbled and gratified by its amazing success. It has quite literally changed my life. Blogs are fantastic resources, but as much as I might encourage my fellow programmers to, not everyone has the time or inclination to start a blog. There's far too much great programming information trapped in forums, buried in online help, or hidden away in books that nobody buys any more. We'd like to unlock all that. Let's create something that makes it easy to participate, and put it online in a form that is trivially easy to find.

Are you familiar with the movie pitch formula?

Stackoverflow is sort of like experts-exchange (minus the nausea-inducing sleaze and quasi-legal search engine gaming) meets wikipedia meets programming reddit. It is by programmers, for programmers, with the ultimate intent of collectively increasing the sum total of good programming knowledge in the world. No matter what programming language you use, or what operating system you call home. Better programming is our goal.

Of course, there's more to it than that. Joel and I are recording our weekly calls and releasing them as podcasts. Listen to us describe our vision for stackoverflow in our own words -- just head over to stackoverflow.com to download the first 46 minute episode. We're even taking questions, if you submit them in the form of audio recordings.

This actually reminded me a bit of a wonderful anime book / cartoon / movie called "DeathNote", only in the sense that there is a lot of focus on nice rich mental thought processes.

The story brings to mind the image of some school yard bully who goes up to the new kid at school to try to steal his lunch money and tries to scare by pretending to know kung fu, only to discover that the little scrawny kid he's chosen to threaten is a young bruce lee  ;D

This filled my heart with joy:

"Monster Cable Threatens Blue Jeans Cable, Gets Ass Handed Back"

Read the very long and technical and beautiful letter written by Kurt Denke’s who runs a small cable company to the Monster Cable company which tries to threaten them with a lawsuit..

..My observation has been that Monster Cable typically operates in a hit-and-run fashion. Your client threatens litigation, expecting the victim to panic and plead for mercy; and what follows is a quickie negotiation session that ends with payment and a licensing agreement… I do not compromise with bullies and I would rather spend fifty thousand dollars on defense than give you a dollar of unmerited settlement funds...
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1985, I spent nineteen years in litigation practice, with a focus upon federal litigation involving large damages and complex issues. My first seven years were spent primarily on the defense side, where I developed an intense frustration with insurance carriers who would settle meritless claims for nuisance value when the better long-term view would have been to fight against vexatious litigation as a matter of principle...Not only am I unintimidated by litigation; I sometimes rather miss it..."
