DesktopCoral / Re: docking problem...
« Last post by mouser on May 04, 2008, 08:10 PM »
dont right click and choose "dock" to change its position.
undock it, then DRAG it fullly to the edge of the screen, where it will autodock to its new location.

what you are doing by manually right-clicking and choosing dock is saying to dock to last position.

Yes, that's my concern with all of these hosted solutions.. they start out free and without advertising, but you lock yourself in and put yourself at the mercy of unknown and uncontrollable changes.  and unless they get financing from educational grants (which they would in a more sensible world), they will have to pay for all this somehow.

Living Room / Studeous: Free web service for teacher+studen collaboration
« Last post by mouser on May 04, 2008, 03:00 PM »
This looks very promising -- we might even consider using it for the Self-teaching Programming School here at DonationCoder.com

From the very nice review on makeuseof.com:
Studeous allows you to communicate, download, upload, discuss, and pretty much keep up with your coursework. As a teacher, you’ll be able to register, set up a class page, and get an “enroll” link that your students can use to sign up and register for the class. You then have a multitude of features at your disposal. You’ll be able keep track of all your students in a roster and easily update grades online. You can also update information regarding homework, events, tests, etc. and even create a drop box, which provides a place for students to upload assignments.

Another feature is a test generator, which has a simple interface to easily create practice tests online that can be graded automatically. Additionally, the service includes the ability for you to share files with your students. Audio files can be created into podcasts, which students can subscribe to via RSS or iTunes. In case you have to quickly send out a message to your students, Studeous lets you send them text messages, provided that they input their mobile numbers into their profiles.

As students you can check all the information provided by your instructor. A great implementation on this site is a discussion board, allowing you to talk about assignments, homework, etc, with fellow classmates and teachers. There’s even a live chat option, letting you communicate with users outside of class, and an effective messaging system that works much like email. You can also look up your grades online, create study groups and events, and access course listings.

Both teachers and students have personal pages that they see when they log in. This page serves as their primary “dashboard” from where they can harness Studeous’ services. The interface is clean and intuitive. There are also privacy options, allowing you to hide certain information from others accessing, such as your email address or phone number.

Academic institutions spend tens of thousands of dollars each year on services that Studeous does better, and for free. This means that schools with a limited budget can have access to this excellent and versatile service. Both teachers and students will enjoy Studeous to enrich their academic experience in an easy-to-use and integrated place.

czb,

here is an idea that is totally optional -- so only add it if you think it would be a good idea and easy:
"add a P)resets" item to top level, which would display a list from 0-9 of prefefined alarms the user could create, the contents of which would be read from a .txt file (presetalarams.txt).

So a user could edit the presetalarms.txt file like:
 in 1:00:00 Coffee Break Time
 in 10:00 Play Break Time

And when they type "tm p" it would show:
0) in 1:00:00 Coffee Break Time
1) in 10:00 Play Break Time

pressing a number would create that alarm.

---

it's just an idea, feel free to ignore it.

ps. I dont think the F)ind function serves much purpose for this plugin; i'm not sure when one would ever need it, so you might want to remove it from the listed features when you type "tm".  im sure it will come in handy in future plugins though :)

if you have any other fscript-based plugins you might try moving them so you can test farr with just the timer plugin and nothing else, at least that would eliminate the possibility that the problem is caused by plugins.

This happens when I click on "configure plugin" to get into the plugin manager. And then when I close the window. It happens also when I run rplugins.

it sounds like farr is having a hard time UNLOADING and then RELOADING the plugin dlls for some reason.  i'm not sure why, but try restarting farr and see if all works.

Wasn't a dumb question -- there are so many options in Tab Mix Plus that it's easy to miss them.
This is example of perfect question for this forum since it's useful stuff that many people probably didn't even realize was available.  No need to feel embarrassed at all.

Actually the only real flaw in your post was in thinking that someone could just code up such a firefox extension if it didn't already exist - that would actually be a pretty daunting and big request that would be outside the scope of a little coding snack here.  So probably the question would have been better posted in the General Software section as a question if anyone knew any existing firefox extensions that could do what you want.

i love the setting i have it set to now, where dbl-clicking a tab closes all other tabs.
also i have added the "close left tabs" and "close right tabs" to the tab context menu which i find invaluable.
23513
You can see in the todo list of FastExplorer that they are considering adding this function, but i do not believe there is any one utility that can currently do both of these functions well.

I must have missed this post originally.  Sorry slinouille!

You are welcome to distribute it as long as it's clear the original version was developed at DonationCoder.com and that you provide a clear link to this thread or some other relevant link on this site.

And please do post again if you improve it more or release new versions.

Mathew,

A very nice person named slinouille has modified it to work with smf version 2.
See this thread: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=13011.0

Let us know how it goes.

tab mix plus can do 1+2 and will work ok with Colorful Tabs.  I love Tab Mix Plus and it can be configured to do almost anything with regard to tabs.

Terrific!

Using the updater worked great by the way -- I really appreciate you taking the time to make the dcupdate file, really makes it convenient to grab updates

The status bar is very, settings are saved, really nice.

Are you ready for a couple more really minor tweaks?
1) In the log you are listing all past alerts as [CANCELED], but i think ONLY the ones that the user DELETES should be marked as canceled.
2) In the log you are only showing the text associated with the event.  It would be nice if it showed the date+time as well as the tex

cathodera, you're not being dense at all, this is a question many people have and a confusion between 2 different kinds of context menu tools.

FastExplorer (and the program i was intending to write) are for ADDING custom entries to the right-click context menu.  It won't let you remove items put on by other programs.

There are a few programs that will let you remove context menu items put by other programs.  See the links above and in other threads for programs like: Hace MMM, and others listed in this post: https://www.donation...=648.msg4330#msg4330

bug:
when you bring up settings, it always resets all options -- this is particularly bad if you have taken the time to customize the save location and wav file filenames.

Official Announcements / New DC Forum Live Chat Web Interface
« Last post by mouser on May 03, 2008, 07:22 PM »
Those of you who have been members for a long time know that we have a fairly busy text chat room on the irc efnet network, and we've always had a way to connect to that chat room from the website.  We started out using pjirc, which is a nice java based client, to cgi::irc a good php server solution.

We are now trying the hosted mibbit irc server.  Looks pretty nice and relieves us from having to host any software.

Why not stop by and say hello -- there's always someone there, and all new posts on the forum are announced in the channel, so it's a nice way to pass the time -- you don't have to talk if you don't want to.

The chat channel is also the perfect place to drop in if the site goes offline for some reason.

To join, just click the "CHAT!" button at the top navigation bar of the forum page, or click: here.

why would you pause it?  Or rather: what does it mean to pause an alarm that is supposed to go off at 5pm? etc?

On one machine i have, i can put desktop shortcuts under my (fully transparent) DesktopCoral dock.  The new code i've added to recent version will preserver the shortcut locations, and it works well.

On another machine (vmware), same OS (WinXpPro), the shortcuts become invisible when they are put where the Coral is.

Weird.  Can anyone shed light on this?
