Maybe the + sign is being lost of encoded wrongly.  Can you see what it puts in the url where your + sign should be?

I would increase the coders amount, that includes yourself of course.

DC receives a small but regular (though long-term unpredictable) stream of donations year round, and many of these are sent to me directly in the form of donationcredits; furthermore, I get some small number of commercial license purchases for my software through the site.  And DC is not my full time job.  In short, I do not need to receive any of the fundraiser money.

We raised about $13,200 during the fundraiser in April. Time to decide how the money should be allocated.

Here are my thoughts:  I would like us to set aside $4,800 x 2 = $9,600 to pay for the next 2 years of hosting.
That leaves $3,600.

I think we want to allocate some of that to give to coders who hang out in the Coding Snacks area to encourage their work in writing code based on user requests, and maybe other coders who share their software and for whom dc is their main "home".
I suggest $1,000.    I have no idea how to divvy it up, but maybe some of the DC moderators and coding snack "consumers" can decide?

That would leave $2,600.

Speaking of moderators, I think it would be nice to give a little of the money to the moderators who take time away from their day to ban spammers, etc., so they can at least go out for a meal or drinks.  Maybe $500 total?

Lastly I would like us to try an experiment of "funding" one or two dc members who are interested in writing small but regular/consistent write-ups about news in software, technology, etc.  Maybe $1,000 x 2? = $2000?

Maybe set aside $100-$200 to help pay shipping costs for me to send out some custom painted 3d cody models..

Those are just my thoughts, I am happy to do whatever the community wants.

I hearby declare the 2018 DonationCoder Fundraiser officially over, and a complete miraculous success!
Screenshot - 5_1_2018 , 12_12_19 AM.png

We are so thankful to everyone who donated or helped behind the scenes, and everyone who participates on the forum and makes the site a little home away from home.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much.

Tomorrow we will talk a little about how the money raised will be used.

Quick question.. What if I can't donate until Wednesday (Social Security doesn't arrive until then and my current bank balance is $0.41)?

Donate on wednesday! We accept donations year round.

Having said that, because we will be doing something special with the fundraising money, send me a little reminder when you do donate and I'll make sure it gets added to the fundraising total.

This is so wonderful.  It's been a few years since we held a fundraiser and I forget how nice it feels to get the boost of support and energy that comes from people taking the time to donate and being willing to share their hard earned money with us.

It should remember your last settings -- do you have the latest version of SC?

Just a reminder that the discounts will be expiring at the end of April, so this is your last chance to use them.

By the way -- I attributed the very high number of donations in this last week to an email I sent out to all previous donors -- but I've since found out that Gizmo at techsupportalert also sent out an email about our fundraiser, which surely accounts for a major chunk of the donations that have come in over the last week (gizmo's techsupportalert readers are some of the most supportive people there are).  So a big thanks goes to gizmo (ian) and everyone at techsupportalert.com for carrying us over the top.

Here is gizmo's wonderful post about our fundraiser:

What a class act Ian (Gizmo) is.  We are so lucky to have their support.  :-*

The only correction I should make to what Gizmo said was that we definitely do not have a fundraiser every year -- we don't have the energy and we know people don't have the patience for that, and it's hard to come asking for money unless we have some real improvements to justify it.. It's been 3 years since our last one.. It may be 3 more years until the next one.

What an incredible final week of the fundraiser it has been -- we have exceeded my expectations handily.  It's been such a wonderful thing to see the past donors and new donors together carry us over the finish line.  :-* :-* :-*

Everyone who donated in the last week please excuse my delay in sending you a thank you email.. I am a bit behind in my emails and now have 100+ to reply to.

Developer's Corner / Re: How to get started with Python and OpenCV?

Probably best to split this off into a separate thread.  There is a post about a nice beginner IDE (Thonny) for learning python: https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=44811
But that may not be well suited to using a big library like OpenCV (I'm not sure).
I do think that learning OpenCV will serve you well.

The thing that's holding me back is that I'm concerned it will take me much more time and effort writing the utility than it would save me from just manually doing the thing I want to automate.

This is always a concern, and an age old dilemma.  Part of the answer so such questions comes down to your personal distaste for doing repetitive manual actions.  Some of us coders have precious little patience for such things and would rather spend 10 hours coding a solution over 1 hour of manual data entry..

If you just have a finite number of times you have to do this, the manual way will probably be quicker.  But if you have to do it over and over for an indefinite amount of time..

Your first test might be to see how good the ocr reading works as that will likely be your biggest bottleneck.  If that works on, the rest should be fairly painless.

Probably what I ought to do is just use mouser's automatic screenshotter and then just bug him to add the extra features I'd like to see.

I really do want to add features and expand it...

Screenshot Captor / Re: How to restore Screenshot Captor settings?
« Last post by mouser on April 26, 2018, 08:53 AM »
It sounds like you did the right thing, your old settings should be on your old pc at C:\users\USERNAME\My Documents\DonationCoder\ScreenshotCaptor\ScreenshotCaptor.ini.
Make sure on your new computer that you exit Screenshot Captor and then copy over the old files and then restart it.
Note: if you install the portable version of Screenshot Captor then you would put the files in the same directory as it.

What a wonderful surprise to wake up and find that we have passed $10,000 raised !!

We are so lucky to have such supportive people willing to take the time and make the effort and send their hard earned money to us.

In the coming months we are going to have to show them it is well deserved by putting it to good use and continuing our process of improving the site and embarking on some new projects.
