Adventures of Baby Cody / Re: Read me first - Important Information
« Last post by Carol Haynes on July 25, 2009, 12:40 PM »
The idea is to post visit reports on this board - perhaps a selection of the most memorable could be made into a gallery later on.

Vista seems to have some issues with defrgenattaion that are unresolved. For example if I use PerfectDisk on Windows XP all the data is moved to the beginning of the drive and a boot time defrag moves all of the system stuff into coherent places. In Vista some of the system stuff still seems to be locked even at boot time and refuses to move. This can stop the shrinking of partitions. I wouldn't necessarily blame the backup/restore it seems to be more of a Windows issue because you can't even fully defrag before you dot he backup.

Me next please ... really looking forward to meeting you Baby Cody.

OK BC has arrived with me ... see this thread for some of his adventures in Yorkshire.

Sad farewells today. Baby Cody packed his stuff and is about to head off to Hemel Hempstead to visit Ampa. Farewell little feathered friend.

ASP.NET / Re: Simple form using visual web developer

If you don't have to use ASP or .NET it may be worth you looking at the following book:

They aren't the cheapest books in the world but all of the SitePoint books I have bought/looked at have been very good.

QuotePad looks interesting - it would be nice if it retained a bit of formatting though.

I know it is basically a text grabber but it would be nice if it rendered HTML from webpages a bit and included copied images (or maybe optionally HTML links to those images which are rendered live).

The fact that it displays all the URLs captured is quite nice but it would be good to have them active in the text rather than by a button at the bottom.

Having said all that it is free and nicely done - just being picky I suppose ;)

General Software Discussion / Re: Help! Outlook Express problem.

You could try running the Fix MAPI tool - which should repair the MAPI interface that Outlook and Outlook Express uses.

To run the program to fix this problem, in C:\winnt\system32 or C:\windows\system32, double-click Fixmapi.exe.

In Vista just type fixmapi in the search box in the start menu.

Actually I think we need a Baby Cody board where the person being visited posts some photos etc. (and then when he is ready to move on people can bid for the next place to visit ;))

Actually it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a new board with a sticky thread for each country where people can sign up so that BC can do the rounds in each country before moving on (and save on shipping costs).

Also maybe everyone who meets BC in person should make a donation to DonationCoder.com on BC's behalf. It's hard work all this flying around and partying - BC should get a little financial benefit!

Use section break continuous - then it breaks without starting a new page.

The way most torrents work if you do that it is likely to take 4 years to download a single track ;)

2. Jammie Thomas-Rasset was fined for making available/sharing/uploading those songs, not downloading.

Anyone using torrents or other P2P services is automatically uploading if they are downloading. Even if it is just for the duration of the downloading of the files.

Rather than deleting this stuff perhaps we should have a 'time waster' sub-board and move these threads there so we have a record of who is PTIA.

Use a section break before you want columns and another section break when you want to stop using columns

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still get errors constantly.

Welcome to the real Brave New World, brought to you courtesy of Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and all those other US companies - who bend over backwards to cooperate with repressive regimes and legislation - while incessantly denying they do so.

Welcome to the new form of colonialism - who needs a physical empire when everything can be controlled electronically?

If you disable both of the Protexis Services PaintShop Pro X won't run (it just reports it is damaged and needs to be reinstalled).

I think that isn't a bad idea just move all threads relating to spam to a locked forum and remove all links to the spamming website. Also change the thread title to include [Spamming Bastard - avoid buying .... and warn others] prefix.

One of the reasons I now refuse to have anything to do with DRMed eBooks. I have been stung by Amazon in the past (pre-Kindle) when they used to supply Acrobat based eBooks that included DRM and then had no ability to activate them because Amazon withdrew the product.

General Software Discussion / Re: PDF on my website/fill-in?
« Last post by Carol Haynes on July 16, 2009, 04:48 AM »
How about Google forms?

I know they aren't PDF but basically you can set up a webform on your website and whenever someone submits the form the details are entered into a row of a corresponding spreadsheet in your GoogleDocs account. You can then periodically download the spreadsheet for use in Excel or a database with all the filled form data and reset the GoogleDoc spreadsheet to empty.
