Well I really appreciate you following up and letting us know how you solved the problem.
Far too often I find that I search on the web for some issue, find some forum thread about it, and find that the original poster never posts how the issue was eventually solved or resolved, etc.  And it's extremely frustrating.
So it's really nice that you took the time to post the solution, for the next person who comes along and experiences the same thing

I am very weary of fracturing/fragmenting attention.. I think it's nicer when we have a larger common area.
So I guess the consensus is to leave things as they are for now and just welcome linux+mac people to post in existing sections.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New FARR Plugin: FCalc
« Last post by mouser on June 12, 2008, 06:59 PM »
ottenm, i apologize.

the problem is that a new release of FARR was put out but is not yet on the updater, and it changes the way it works with fcalc.  so your problem is you have a new fcalc but not a new farr.

you can get the new farr here: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=10505.0

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Timer
« Last post by mouser on June 12, 2008, 05:15 PM »
tm settings
gets me a never-ending series of settings windows

same here! definitely a problem.

czechboy and i might have to talk to see if this is a bug with the new FARR system or a bug in the plugin.

i suspect the problem may be with the way that farr now signifies an Enter being pressed after a search string is set programmatically.
the solution may be simply to add the ability to add a \n to a string when you specify an alias action of "restartsearch" so that plugin/alias can choose whether to trigger the hitting of enter after setting the search string.  if you don't understand what i'm talking about that's ok, this is only for the heavy alias users and plugin writers to be concerned with.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Timer

I search for "d\ga\tm", and Timer comes up

i think this might be a bug in fscript matching of keyword. i'm passing the buck to ecaradec and see if it comes back to me :)

i think having an option to show alpha/beta/experimental releases is a really good idea for dcupdater, and i plan on doing that.

i also plan to put the new FARR as an official release in the next couple of days as soon as it's clear the last remaining showstopper bugs are fixed.

Living Room / Re: does win XP 64-bit suck?
« Last post by mouser on June 12, 2008, 08:37 AM »
I've been using winX64 for several months. some impressions:

1) WinXp service packs do not get released for x64, at least not on any human timescale (SP3 is not available to x64 users).  Not cool.
2) Mostly everything runs fine.
3) As f0dder points out, explorer shell extensions mostly do not exist for x64 -- so if you have a favorite shell extension (like copy folder path to clipboard, system clock) you may be out of luck, or at least severely restricted in your options.  If you have old hardware (scanners) you might experience trouble.
4) My experience has been a few more random application crashes that i suspect are due to x64, but nothing really major.
5) Is it worth it? I'd think twice about doing it again -- i notice no difference over my normal xp install so i don't really see much gain.  Unless you *really* want to be able to access that extra memory, give it a skip.  But if you can't bear to live without full access to the memory, win x64 runs fine and is stable.

the far:// links mean you could make an html file which acts as a farr menu,
in the same way you would use an alias to act like a menu.

why would you use an html file as a farr menu?  Well maybe for example if you made a nice html page using javascript or css to show a tree menu or image menu, etc.

showfile is used to show stuff either in html view or rtf memo view depending on file extension.

showhtml lets you set html contents directly from an alias without having to tell farr to load it from an external file.

With the new version you can also put links like this in the html you show:
farr://LAUNCHLINEHERE

for example:
farr://restartsearch blondie

or:
farr://notepad.exe

NOTE:
the farr:// links will ONLY work when found in local files or showhtml text, they will be ignored for security reasons if found on an internet file.

Looks like a new latest fix may have solved the remaining problems at shutdown.
Try downloading 2.06.07.

Grogy can you be more specific.
Are you saying that you now get an error with those plugins and you didn't before?
Are you saying the error occurs at shutdown but not otherwise (not at normal program exit)?
By "active" do you just mean if they are installed?
Do these plugins otherwise work for you?

do NOT do a system restore.
there is no reason to do that.

if the program is killed unusually, it's possible that the space will be reserved until the next reboot.
so just reboot your computer -- there is absolutely no reason to do a system restore, and nothing permanently changed in the system by this program.

can you see if the new version i just uploaded solves the access violation?
23074
ok i think i might understand.. you may be in the result list view when you trigger, and then when html view engages, it doesnt start you out in the html view, so you cant use scroll wheel or escape.  i'll fix that so focus shifts into the html view.

just email me ([email protected]) if you need help getting a plugin coded.. i'm always happy to help plugin coders.  i don't think anyone has yet made a launch-takeover plugin -- it would be great to have an example of one.

in addition to this openwith idea, another popular one would be a +RunAs modifier that let you specifiy an alternate user (admin) to run a program as.
