Post a picture of this rare mug so we all can see.
will do.

Is there a Mug museum somewhere on DC so we can see all the mugs that have been?
now that is a good idea.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New plugin: FARR MostRecentlyUsed

PS: mouser: in SC v2.37.01, saving a file after adding a shape to it results in crazy failure, on my vista64.

This x64 crashing was fixed in an unreleased beta of SC; my plan was that as soon as i catch a break from FARR i would update SC, but maybe i need to release a bugfix for x64 users sooner rather than later.  See here for unannounced download of x64 fixed version: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=13525.0

Thanks for the report owen -- you are definitely right about the version dates issue.. I should have fixed that a while ago and i will fix it this month for sure, early this month preferably.

I'm not completely sure i understand the other two issues.  Could you elaborate?

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: A minute countdown timer in PowerPoint
« Last post by mouser on July 01, 2008, 09:24 AM »

From wikipedia: The confusion over the Any key dates back at least to the days of the ZX Spectrum where "Press any key to continue" was often used as a way to ensure programs did not continue operation without gaining the user's attention. The computer would then wait for any key to be pressed by the user before continuing execution. A few new users were confused by this reference to the Any key and began wondering where the "any" key was on the keyboard.

Just discovered and tried the ability to specify additional registry keys with +modifiers, like +office.
WOW that is so cool.

An idea:
maybe the first entry in the config file could be like:
+|DefaultMRU
list of reg keys to check and show by default

that way a user who wanted to could modify the list of reg keys that got checked for the default mru display, and could even add reg keys from certain programs they wanted to show by default.

This may be a very good candidate for something you would want to display in the farr window as soon as farr is shown, instead of the default list of last programs launched by far.  you can do this if you want by going to the hotkeys configuration in far and either modifying the hotkey trigger of choice (Break key) or adding a new one, and specifying mru as the text for the search edit box.

Showing entries from the mru list has been one of the most requested features for farr..
It's fantastic to have a plugin that does this.

Plus it works great.

Love this one.  :-*

I think another thing you will need to do is when the time is up, you dont want it to flash like crazy saying "TIME IS UP!" :)

You probably want it to change the display to some text like "The presentation is about to begin."
Even better would be to let user set the text to display at end of timer.

More nice things would be:
1) remember the last settings (including text to display during countdown as traffic_doc requested), and text to display at end, and time, etc.
2) be nice if you could configure font size.
3) i think it would be good to have it exit also if the user presses the escape key.  maybe it should exit if user presses ANY key or ANY mouse button.
4) probably better for it to completely exit instead of show its window again after you double click, as you will want to begin your presentation right away not have users see they timer program on screen and watch user go exit it manually before beginning the talk.

Imho if it was caused by a reference to a now-noexisting partition (whose drive letter is now mapped to your CD), this isn't really a FARR bug - but the effects are certainly annoying nonetheless.

well there are a few ways you can make a request via windows api to ask the OS to resolve a shortcut.. some tell windows to try to resolve and find near matches if the original is missing, etc.  it's not at all certain but it's possible that one of the options tells it to prompt for missing media and one doesn't, so i'll have a look.

- It would be nice to be able to filter aliases beginning with a certain letter.  For example, if I were to type 'agroups m' it would be nice for all the aliases beginning with 'm' to be listed.

this will be coming in the next day or so.

- I don't want to delete any core aliases but it would be nice to be able to select (e.g. checkbox) which ones will show up when I type agroups.
you can uncheck whole alias files to disable them, or uncheck individual alias files to disable them.  that should also prevent them from showing up in agroups list.

I would like to be able to call only certain groups of aliases, especially the Custom User Alias file 'NewAliasFile.alias' group.

it seems like it might be a good idea to have a special keyword associated with an alias file that you can type to list all aliases in that alias file only; i'll add that to todo list.

you can also make your own alias which contains a list of other aliases.
ie make an alias called: afav
and in that alias have results like:
games | restartsearch games
mydocs | restartsearch *.doc

then type: afav
to show your menu, and select an item to trigger that search.

We will have special gift for everyone who submits by tonights original deadline.

might discuss with mouser extending this contest a week or two so I get get settled in and we can get a few more submissions

I agree with this.. I think extending to July 14 would be a good idea.

there are plenty of such standalone utilities that people use with powerpoint but not powerpoint slides themselves.
you start it up and set it to say "TALK BEGINS in 5 minutes" and it fills up entire screen with large text and counts down.
22792
some more ideas:

1) to the right click menu for a service, how about an option "lookup on the internet"
and have it just open the browser with a google search for the display or processname
22793
That is really very nice, and very professional looking.

One idea:
Maybe the program for safety purposes could store a list of the startup state of each item the first time it ever sees it, so that you could look at a log file and see the original state of any process you might later mess with?

Another idea, again for safety purposes:
make it easy to set the active state setting, but make them tick some option to acknowledge they are doing something potentially dangerous when they try to change a startup state.

if we can confirm its new as of v2.08 or so, then it may be that a recent change i made to short resolution is causing it, and i can revert back.  maybe ill revert back for a test version for you to try.  just do me a favor and dont permanently delete the shortcut causing the problem if you find it, so that we can easily try a new fix if/when i come up with one.

I really do think it's more likely that the drive D: references are in LNK files somewhere in the search folders.

hmm that is strange..
or a new shortcut.

try this, set this option and then see where it says it was searching when the error pops up, it's useful for debugging:

good point.

try going to your history and deleting any entries refering to drive d.

maybe i can have farr figure out when something is on a removable disk and not add it to history if so.
anyone know if there is a nice windows api call to check if a drive is removable?
22797
Also it no longer automatically launches the alias if there is only one result.

are you sure? if you hit enter it should launch.
22798
ok please one more time if i could get some testing and reports id appreciate it.
up to v2.13.06 btw
