FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: [Bug] Cannot edit plugin options
« Last post by mouser on July 02, 2008, 09:34 PM »
looks like a bug in farr i must have introduced in last version.  i will fix.
(i spent many many painful hours last weekend fixing an inexplicable bug causing windows shutdown issues when farr was closing up, related to dlls, and so i probably did something weird here).

For example if i create an alias with the name "test" and "https://www.donationcoder.com/" as the result if i type "te" and hit enter it was my understanding that FARR would automatically launch the result because there is only one result for the alias. Instead it completes the alias to "test" and hitting enter then will launch the site. Same thing happens with any of the nircmd aliases.

it is supposed to launch it when you hit enter if there is only one result. i'll look into it.

still needed: a way to force the cursor back to the FARR inputbox.

this will be automatic in next update.

Question: Can I enter more than one program into the programming contest? I just had a really good idea and got some code working for it.

definitely

Find And Run Robot / Re: Html View Mode in FARR (Find and Run Robot)
« Last post by mouser on July 02, 2008, 04:05 PM »
but this is quite unusable because html mode steals focus from the text box. Could this be bypassed somehow so the output can be dynamically changed as the user types in something?

is being fixed as we speak.

wtf. can you guys check your advanced options of farrfox and see if maybe some checkboxes got unchecked?
also can you check that you have farrfox version 1.08.01 installed?
22760
Since 2.14.01 FarrFox doesn't work for me.

check the advanced options.
have you upgraded to Firefox 3? that could epxlain it also.

EDIT: where can I download the FarrFox sources?
they are in the farr plugin sdk download
BUT they haven't been updated with my latest yet; if you wait a few days i will add the most recent farrfox source to the sdk download.

If you feel like it fenix, that would be a GREAT thing to post a little "mini-review" about..  It's exactly the kind of program we should be bringing some attention to.

i changed rplugins to: goreload
to make it more consistent with the other "instant" strings like gohelp, goupdate, etc. and to emphasize the fact that it reloads both plugins and alias files.

another idea:
if user types clear at end of search, it could clear the contents of the specified mru list.

e.g.:
mru clear
mru +office clear

just an idea -- not saying it's worth implementing.

New version 2.14.01 is now up (let's hope i don't regret putting this through private beta).

The most notable change is that you can now filter the built in lists like:
  • agroups - list of all known aliases
  • aplugins - list of all known plugins
  • historys - past search history
  • historyl - past launch history

flash media doesnt use multimedia urls all the time, so sometimes they sneak by url snooper..
perhaps something can be done about it i'm not sure.  if anyone can watch the traffic with a packet sniffer and give some insight?

i like it

the only thing that might be worth considering would be making mruc do what you say mru would do, and leaving mru for a simple alias "menu" that would essentially show:
mrum - list only 'My Recent Documents' (what mru with no program modifiers does now)
mrup - list MRU items of all configured programs (what mru with all program modifers added would do now)
mrua - list everything (mrum and mrup combined)
mruc - list a combination of mrum and user selected modifiers (definable in the options dialog)

btw if you are curious, this program is one of the challenges in our self-teaching programming school:

so in case you feel like you need some motivation to continue your learning, that might be a good place to start.

Actually, i think this autocomplete needs a global rethinking, because it doesn't really cope well with regular expressions :S

exactly right.

i'm going to have it always put a space, but we need to revisit this autocompletion thing soon since there is no perfect simple solution in all cases.  let me finish some other stuff and we can come back to this issue of autocompletion and multi-step wizards.

DcUpdater / Re: Dcupdater problems - v1.23.01?
« Last post by mouser on July 01, 2008, 08:00 PM »
I think the cases where it would be handy is for apps that don't properly install themselves. Some people still distribute apps that don't have an installer... but then I guess they wouldn't be trying to use dcUpdater. BTW, I have put a menu option in my apps that launches the app's .dcupdate file, so the user can start dcUpdate on the specific app file alone.

absolutely people could use dcupdater for programs that dont have an installer, that's a fair point actually.  but typically such programs will have a menu item or something that says to check for updates, and invoke the dcuhelper.exe to launch the .dcupdate file to check for updates.  And the dcuhelper.exe has an option that tells it to register the .dcupdate file in the default check list. See: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=9607.0

however you might have a point about making it something that could be done manually from the updater tool.

DcUpdater / Re: Dcupdater problems - v1.23.01?
« Last post by mouser on July 01, 2008, 07:41 PM »
ok for #2 i understand, and yes i will fix it, thats a good point.

ok #3a, yes i agree, in fact i was planning to have a checkbox shown or something so you could easily toggle between showall and show just the one.  it's also confusing to people to see only a subset of their things sometimes.

as for #3b let me think about it.. i think that the updater is assuming that if the dcupdate file is not in its default list, it means its being run for a non-installed temporary download, and so shouldnt be added to the default list.. i'm trying to think of cases where you would have a permanent .dcupdate file that you wanted added, that didnt have a proper way to add itself.
