So... Darwin : any luck with annotations using your fabulous wacom tablet?   :)

Sorry - haven't gotten onto my other notebook yet  :-[. I did try this with Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 and my XP machine (sans any PDF software) but either my memory is shot or Adobe has removed Annotation support from the Reader in version 9...

I'll try to get to this today

Impressive - I didn't know that SQLNotes handled this, thanks Pierre

What is email merge?

He meant mail merge... I think. If you try eannouncer (above) you won't have to worry about it!

thanks, Carol (and good one, Deozaan!). I, of course, am not to blame. Change is to blame - it's this confounded new, "simplified" url plug-in. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it  :D

An alternative is something like eannouncer, the free version of which allows you to send individualized e-mails to up to 50 recipients. It's basically merge for dummies... which means that it's right up my alley  :-[

[Edit - I am kind and fix URLs ;) Carol]

Yeah... implicit (or intended to be implicit at any rate) in my post is that I'm not going near this offer with a barge-pole.

Just an update: received an upgrade e-mail from Corel this morning - they're offering the upgrade from PSPP X2 to PSPP X2 Ultimate for $29.99 (CDN or USD). Only mollifies me a tiny amount...

Any experiences worth sharing?

None, I'm afraid! I'll try to mess around with this today and get back to you (just tried with Acrobat Reader 9, and there's no annotate feature... I *think* it was there in version 8? PDF Pro 5 is intalled on a different machine - I'll get back to you).

I saw this posted to VUNet this morning and have been depressed all day, having paid full price for Disk Director 10 a month ago  :(

I imagine that TrueImage 12 must be just around the corner and that Disk Director 11 must be in the pipeline, too...

Yeah, I was "wowed" by the generosity of allowing the end-user to run the software on two computers as well. Gee, the app would be a bargain at twice the price  :o

I have a Wacom Bamboo and love it. I got the one with the mouse and am very impressed with it. Hadn't thought of using it for annotations, but now that you mention - fabulous, I may give it a try

Yup! Y0himba's tip works - I've been doing the same thing since X1... Anyone trying this, though, copy the instructions and keep them because everytime you update (ie install a service pack or whatever), you have to go through these steps again.

Yes - I really like X2.

I entered an online contest for a copy of PSP X1 through a photo mag's site - was VERY surprised when I won it! The worst thing about X1 was the startup time...

I program about 1/4 of my applications now, ranging from my browser to a startup manager (runs at startup, and lets me pick what I want to run RIGHT THEN for that session). Can't get much more personalized than that!

Would you be willing to share that as a coding snack? ArchaicTimeFrog is looking for this kind of functionality here: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=14856.0

Migration poses challenge, certainly. But what's worse? slightly different formatting of a (very readable) word document, or a letter you forgot you had because, well, it's in a box, buried under other boxes -- it's basically lost. Inaccessible info is lost info, right? With a computer , it takes maybe a few seconds to find it, even if the format is not perfect. And your hands are not even dirty.

For 99.9% of my e-mail and other files this is exactly how I handle things. I don't archive anything onto paper unless it is something that I can't afford to lose. The hardcopy is just another layer of protection against loss, on top of the myriad other ways in which everything is backed up - on my harddrive, in indices, on external harddrives, on a thumbdrive or two, on CD, on DVD...). The paper just insures whatever it is that I would be put out if I didn't have access to immediately and these copies go into folders and are filed. Like I said, in my case it amounts to three e-mails...

X1 Professional Client was free but it now cost $50, and worth every cent (and I am in no way affiliated with that company).

SP3 has some issues with screensavers.  For many they just won't kick in and the screens won't power off.

I found this was happening on one of my machines and went looking, only to find that I'm not alone.
(It's only a minor annoyance, plenty of ways around it.)

That's interesting. i wonder if it is related to a problem that I've seen on both my personal notebook and my wife's notebook: both are set to go into standby when lid is shut but every so often they won't - you come back, raise the lid and log back in (both are set to require log-in from screensaver) and THEN they'll go into standby...

Well, since the world hasn't ended yet, I guess I still have time to finish reading Cosm.

That looks like an interesting read, App! Thanks for the link, I might just spring $0.01 for a used copy

The only issue that I have seen with Sp-3 is that explorer.exe uses a lot more memory... It also hangs more often. However, I can't be absolutely certain that this is an Sp-3 issue (though it started pretty much immediately following the udpate).

YMWV (Your mileage WILL vary)!

My solution is multiple backups, in mutiple formats, in multiple locations, of my e-mail in electronic format. I only have three e-mails printed out (these include a nasty e-mail exchange with my PhD supervisor, and a couple of receipts that related to refunds I requested). That's it.

Two not covered in the review that are worth a look are: Photo Collector from Collectorz.com shows great promise and there ARE stirrings indicating that they MIGHT release an update soon (but it hasn't been touched in over 18 months)  >:( and exifPro.

Also, check out this thread: Why is it so hard to find a decent image organizer?

Aram and Armando - either you misunderstood 40hz or I did! I think that suggesting that any e-mail you can't afford to lose be printed and kept as hardcopy is excellent advice. My understanding of this is that particular e-mail messages, like the last message your grandmother sent to you before she passed away or a nasty exchange of e-mail with a colleague that you have filed a complaint against, be backed up in hard copy. Everything else trust to your electronic archive. As I said, I learned this the hardway as I have a bunch of e-mail black holes in my archive: everthing from 1994 t0 2000, everything from 2000 to 2006, everything from mid-2006 to November 2007... This includes every e-mail my grandmother ever wrote to me before she passed away in 2000  :( >:(

So, I'm not advocating printing EVERYTHING, just those messages that you really want to keep.

NB It probably IS easier to keep everything now without printing to paper: in the past two years Hotmail, GMail and Yahoo have gone to astronomical limits on personal e-mail storage (after years of tiny limits) and harddrive capacity has gone through the roof while the cost has gone through the floor.
