Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: drag window to edge automatically resizes it
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 25, 2007, 01:19 PM »
Hey john!

I can recognize that problem.
Please try the solution mentioned in this post.
Unfortunatelly, i can't tell what causes this problem, thus i can't really solve it in a better way that ask people to follow that procedure :(

The following options will start an update of the databases in the next version:  loc /u , loc /U , loc update
Fantastic!!!
Oh man, this is a tremendous work, i'm looking forward to the next version!

One advice, though: don't leave "update" keyword to update the database, or people won't be able to search for files named "update" ;)

General Software Discussion / Re: Is the Windows start menu dead?
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 23, 2007, 06:24 PM »
Farr with locate32 is nice, however, I've found that the need to have two separate programs doesnt really justify resource usage
Actually, those aren't 2 separate programs, i don't use locate, only its database updater, when i need to update the DB, and that's something that probably vista start menu also does (if it includes indexing).

I have one suggestion for this plugin:
Make it so that when we type "loc /?", it'll show the help entries (currently, it does display them, but in a very bad fashion :S)

This would allow us to not have to memorize locate's syntax ;)

I just went into options - Plugins, Updates, and Fonts, Click to Examine and Configure Plugins, selected Locate32 and then selected Configure Advanced Plugin Options. Once in there it's easy to change the maximum number of files found to 10... Don't know if this addresses your problem or not?
Well... My problem is that i'd like to see all the 25 results, by typing +sall, or by configuring this plugin to show results in list mode (instead of the 10-icon view i usually use)

I think that the perfect place to start would be skrommel's 1hour software site, there are lots of scripts over there, and some of those are quite complex!

Patteo: From what i understand, the miniserver isn't the laptop, right?
So, you can just assign a fixed ip to the miniserver, and leave your laptop on dynamic ip...

Another option would be to assign a static ip to the laptop on the alternate config, and leave the default config on auto. The problem with this approach is that sometimes it won't work as expected and you have to disconnect/connect a few times until it figures out it should be using the static ip.

I've just tested this and i have to say: This is amazing!
It works beautifully, and locate is soooo configurable, makes a perfect combination with farr :D
The only problem i see is that i use the icon view and thus, can't see the 25 results, only 10, because the +sall action doesn't work.
Other than that... I'm in love!  :-*

Some credits are definitely heading your way, Okke!!

Assign the PC a static IP address outside that range, (say 192.168.1.99 for example) and it should stay there.
I had no idea about that! Thanks a lot, i think i'm going to do that at home :D

patteo: you need to disable DHCP (which is what assigns those ips) and configure static ips on the computers, one per computer.

Hi john!
There was no way to configure that transparency in previous versions of GridMove.
I've uploaded a new version, which lets you configure the transparency through a .ini parameter. Just follow the following procedure:
Download and update gridmove (from http://jgpaiva.dcmem...rs.com/gridmove.html).
Run the gridmove once.
Open gridmove's folder, and edit "gridmove.ini" with notepad.
Change the "transparency" parameter (255 is full opacity, 0 is full transparency).
Save the file and restart gridmove. :)

This new version also includes another parameter that can be changed through that same method: MButtonTimeout, as requested by Mark through e-mail.

General Software Discussion / Re: How do you launch stuff?
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 19, 2007, 03:20 AM »
I only have 4 methods to launch stuff:
  • Farr (this is the one i use 99% of the time)
  • QuickLaunch bar (i use this when i don't feel like using the mouse)
  • AHK shortcuts (after i've launched my main ahk script through one of the above methods)
  • XYplorer (to launch files which i can't remember their location)

Try checking under the power options if hibernation is active (control pannel -> power options -> hibernate -> enable hibernation).

Or ff you install autohotkey, the only thing you need to do it right-click the .ahk file and select "compile" :)

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Run on unhibernation
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 17, 2007, 01:37 PM »
Ok... And it's done!

It's really simple to use. Just launch it with a command line argument which is the program (or file) you'd like to launch. To do so, you can just drop the file on to the executable, or you can make a shortcut to it with that file as an argument.
To launch several files in order, just make a .txt file with a list of the path to each file, rename it to a .bat file and launch that .bat file as argument to RunOnUnhibernation!

RunOnUnhibernation v1.0 created 17-09-07:
Run the program passed as argument on cumputer unhibernation

Ok, then i'll do you a program that'll run a specific Executable when the computer comes back from hibernation!

Just give me a few hours ;)

General Software Discussion / Re: New interesting features for Firefox 3

Heh, changed from FF2 to IE7? I couldn't do that... there's a really noticable lag when opening a new tab in IE7, it's in no way instantaneous... FF2 almost is.

Another interesting note on IE7's stupidity:
On non-english versions of XP, the keys for opening/closing tabs are changed from ctrl+t/ctrl+w to a regionalized setting. In portuguese, it's "ctrl-s" for opening tabs (which are called "separadores".)
Notice how the ctrl-s for save is also changed to ctrl-g (since "save" means "guardar).

I think it's just a stupid decision, forces you to pay attention to what programs are in what languages and use different keyboard shortcuts accordingly!  >:( >:( >:(

Finished Programs / Re: SOLVED: Screen rotation -> possible in AHK ?
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 16, 2007, 06:42 PM »
If iRotate can do it and you only don't like the hotkeys, you could just remap them in ahk :)
I have no idea to rotate the screen in ahk, though.

If nobody knows of something that does this, this thread has all the info on making an ahk script that'll do it.

m0rph: what exactly would you like it to do on unhibernation?

Will this client be cross-platform?
I can't use my laptop (because it overheats when it is using too much processor), but i have another one laying around at home that i could keep always on. The problem is that it is running ubuntu 6.10.
