Living Room / DMZ Linux Cursors For Windows
« Last post by Nighted on June 22, 2007, 10:18 PM »
If you have used Ubuntu or something similar, you probably know these cursors. Here they are for Windows.

Windows port complete. Of course this doesn't include anywhere close to all of the original cursors, but this is Windows limitation.

General Software Discussion / Re: Is the Windows start menu dead?

We need something like PaneKiller that is still in development. Not sure what happened to this guy but if you look at the last update of the program he was obviously WAY ahead of his time. I'm guessing he got scooped up by Microsoft or something.

Can anyone tell me if this works in Vista?

Strange, I googled it and nothing. ;)

justice, if you format your hard drive often, enjoy that new OS freshness, and don't want to spend hours setting installed programs back to the way you had them, then yes, it's worth it.

edbro, I haven't found a key it won't back up yet either. I emailed Torchsoft and requested such a feature for Registry Workshop. Maybe if he should get some more email requesting the same? ;)

Ok, Moon Software's reply to my asking where it went is this:

The program is currently discontinued as it is not properly compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista (does not copy some types of registry keys). You can use it on Windows 9x. The file can be found at http://www.moonsoftw...re.com/files/Legacy/
Ahto

So, anyway, that is why it disappeared I guess. Regarding Registry Workshop, I use it often and it has a great favourites feature. I think I'll contact the author and request an export of the favourites to individual or merged keys.

Hmm....I searched for both registry key backup and then www.moonsoftware.com and got nothing on each query....STRANGE!!!!  :tellme:

Anyway, looks like that link is dead. Good thing I had it stashed away.

Hmm...I already had exactly what I was looking for!

I think it was Skrommel that posted the link (it's on Moon Software's server, but there is no link) It's somewhere on this forum but my search didn't get results so here it is and a screen shot.

*oh crap, this is what edbro was talking about. I left a post at the Moon Softare forum asking where the link went. Anyway, here it is.  :)

Tell him not to let it out of his sight and if he loses it you'll smack him so hard he'll get a speeding ticket going through China!

Worse case scenario, at least laptops are way cheaper now than they were 7 or 8 years ago. I could buy 4 for the price I payed for my first one in '98. Crazy.

Yeah, something that you could choose keys and then export into single keys or even one merged key would be great.

If anyone knows of something like this, please post it here. I actually know of a small tool for merging keys, but nothing that would let you select certain keys that one would regularly like to back up. Does anyone know of a back up utility that does this? I use Second Copy and I'm sure it can't do this.

Hmm...can't find a link to that Reg file tool. It was originally on this site. I'll attach it here.

FastCopy has been updated to version 1.55. Using it on my Flash drive now.

If I ever need to back up a huge amount of data on another machine again, it's good to know it's waiting there ready to go.

The new Free Download Manager let's you do this also, except it's list of supported sites is no where near as extensive as that included with DownloadHelper.

Thanks for the DownloadHelper info Curt. Finally an easy way to grab flash in FireFox. Better than any other plugin I've tried.

LocatePC is free software, and runs unobtrusively on your computer, with no icons, popups or saved emails. If your computer is stolen then the thief will not even know that LocatePC is running, and as soon as they connect to the internet a secret email is sent to you containing the details that you need to track your hardware.

Freeware from Iconico, who make some really awesome screen measurement tools.

General Software Discussion / Re: List of Vector Illustration Alternatives
« Last post by Nighted on June 19, 2007, 05:41 PM »
I was just trying something with Inkscape and I found out you can't even save a file as PNG!!!!

Very strange....especially considering I needed to convert to a transparent PNG image.

Later on...hahahah, then I tried The Gimp (because it's portable and I didn't feel like installing something else), which immediately upon opening the file asked me what dimensions I wanted to render the vector at. Perfect! Then I saved it to PNG.

A generic graphics program works better than a dedicated vector application! Plus I didn't have to dig around in menus once opening the file to resize it (I am not very familiar with either program and don't have PSP or PS installed at the moment).

I don't make payments through electronic means. Many times I've tried to contact developers to offer sending them a money order or something but most don't have a post office box or are just too paranoid to give out their mailing address. They point me to paypal and lose my offer.

It's not hard to get a post office box somewhere that you could receive contributions and gifts to.

Maybe I'm way behind, but for me it's much easier just to drop 5 or 10 bucks in an envelope and mail it away. Sure, it might get lost, but I think the mail system is a lot more reliable than people give it credit for.

Yeah, I tried your text editor once. I remember how flabbergasted I was that a 60 dollar text editor didn't even have working word wrap. I also emailed about this and received no response. Anyway, that's my little rant. Just thought I'd point that out now that you seem to be here, alive and well.

Not quite the same, but very similar (and free). Don't forget to look for the Trinket application which adds  tray functionality.
