Oregon trail,it was the first computer game i ever played.Had to play it at school though cause i didn't have
a computer myself.

Surfulater gets a big thumbs up from me,i purchased a copy maybe three or so months back and it improves
with each release.Ever since my browser bookmarks have gotten out of control i've taken to bookmarking
and flat out backing up entire pages with Surfulater. At first glance it looks like an untamable beast, kinda like
The Bat !,but given patience it ends up being really good a organizer of information.

My only gripe and it's a gripe that carries on to all programmers,no love for the Opera Browser.
I'm no programmer,so this might actually be Opera's fought, maybe too closed (again acting like
i know how programming works :-[)but from an end user experience i want some love for Opera.

General Software Discussion / Google SketchUp (free)

Source:http://www.sketchup.com/?sid=368

What's the difference between Google SketchUp (Free) and SketchUp Pro 5?
Pro users are able to print and export raster images at higher-than-screen resolution.
Pro users have access to the following 3D export formats: DWG, DXF, 3DS, OBJ, XSI, VRML and FBX.
Pro users are able to export animations and walkthroughs as MOV (Mac) or AVI (Windows) files.
Pro users get the Sandbox Tools (for organic modeling of terrain, etc) and the Film & Stage Tools (for pre-viz work).

Pro users have access to the Pro Users' Forum
Pro users have access to free email tech support for two years after they buy SketchUp Pro.
Finally, only SketchUp Pro is approved for commercial use; the Free version is licensed for personal use only.

On a side note,if you can find out where you download the damn thing, let us know.

Here ya go :D

Firefox has taken a back seat for me too.Still a great a great browser and will always be installed on my machine, but Opera seems so effortless to me.I swear it handles tabs better.

Personally i don't tweak it too much but i do put the "enable cookies" option on the face of the browser.
I shrink the icons down to 40% and use windows native as it's theme.

Just wanted to say my issues with Realworld Icon Editor's installer has been resolved in the latest release.
I dig the drag and drop image to icon function, very cool. Don't know if that was a new feature,
new to me anyway,lol.

You can get a lot done with free solutions,it's all how you use your imagination.
For instance, even though blogger doesn't give you file space you can park your
files on a google pages account and hotlink from there.

If you want to remove the navbar

Thanks for response.

Never heard of Safe Mode + Administator + Password Cancellation,i'll try.

After reading a few windows 98 kernel threads i'm starting to feel it might be hopeless, especially since
there is no restore disc, that and it's the first Windows 98 release not the SE release. This is all on
top of really old tech too, something like a cyrix processor and 98 mbytes of ram. :-[ all grinding
on a wopping 8gig hard drive.

Even with all these negatives,I would love to have the machine to expirement with different operating
systems. It's a grey area telling someone their computer absolutely sucks but it would suck less if i
owned it :D

I think the kernel issue is going to stop me dead in my tracks with the windows 98 box but the
Xp home just needs a few smacks.

236
Tonight i tried to clean up an old Windows 98 (not SE) for a friend's kid who is 7yrs old kid. It's an old hand
me down not meant for internet connection, basically just to play a couple of low end kid type games.
I have never in my life seen so much spyware on a computer, lavasoft picked up like 580 criticals :o
No exageration.Their we're porn and gambling shortcuts on the desktop that if you tried to delete them
they would reappear.Vicious stuff, most of which i got rid of but...

I know this computer has to have viruses and trojans,so what portable *freeware preferred* security software would one pack on second visit.

It's also throwing me kernal errors now, anyone no where i can get win98 patches ?

There's more...

The mother (also computer illiterate) has locked herself out of her XP home Pc,and no she doesn't
have the restoration disc (not for the win98 either) ,i hope this isn't breaking forum rules,if so
delete, i'll understand, but is there a way to get in there, she needs her Quicken files :(

I love these people with all my heart, but good God almighty some people should not have computers.
Not to sound like a tech snob but you'd never believe people could be this daft when it comes to
computers.Everyone starts out a newbie, but then you make mistakes, question, learn, etc. Some people
don't even try though.I see some people buy computers and once a problem arrives they absolutely give up.
I used to have the Serial key to my Windows 95 disc memorized i screwed my pc up so many times.

Never used Microsoft Office so i can't compare, but i tried Openoffice and it's decent but also
bloated imho  :)

AbiWord is a good free word processor

It's got a few bad reviews here but in my opinion you should try it yourself.

I'm not bashing Openoffice, just saying it's a bit of beast too.

A very hard nut to crack,i downloaded the wmv file,(sidenote-if the file is like 1kb open it with notepad, sometimes their is usefull info there) this is what i found inside...
Ref1=http://play1.wm.icemedia.servecast.net/icemedia/secure/protected/ppv/ppv0604081600_450.wmv?MSWMExt=.asf
Ref2=http://213.19.180.79:80/icemedia/secure/protected/ppv/ppv0604081600_450.wmv?MSWMExt=.asf

I tried to punch these into Net Transport which also downloads streams and came up with nothing,it
connects and kicks off.I do see the word "protected" in the url,so the server is probably using some
login feature.Sorry maybe try these apps

SDP-only downloads  Windows Media

Net Transport-Downloads just about everything except Quictime-shareware

I think it is a Microsoft installer thing,Veign's Pixeur, which i like does the same thing to me.

Thanks for replies (i knew there was a way with all these freakin options, just a beast to sort out)
I got the setting i want with-

Account-properties-options
Then i mess around with periodical checking

I say whoa! when it comes to that scheduler,i've never touched it before or seen it  :-[
You can get alot done there that's for sure,i'm not that popular yet.

244
There has to be something i'm over looking.I know i can set hot keys to check all mail with the push of a button,
but i'm lazy and want this process automated. :D
245

Sunbelt's blog is actually better that their software, the rebranded Kerio gave me bluescreens, though i can't
faught them for this since it's not their handy-work,yet.That being said they've had time to fix it up,tweak it
or at least issue a statement cause i know for a fact i'm not the only one who has had these problems.
(search Castlecops and Wilders Security forums)

I've tried thier anti-spyware app and it's heavy as...well it's heavy. It runs like four services in the background
and tries to be too many different things,a system tweaker, pseudo firewall, etc. It should go without saying,if your a spyware app, keep spyware off my machine. If it's a firewall app, keep intruders out.I hate security software suites.I so wish companies would listen to their clients.

I'm cut right down the middle between Realworld Icon Editor and Axialis IconWorkshop,
but Realworld Icon Editor's installer gets on my nerves, when i try to move it's shortcut to
another folder on the start menu and then click on it from it's new location,it reinstalls.

This is interesting and i hope it works, very cool ideal.

I've missed out on the IRC discussions, was this influenced by something you've (mouser) seen elsewhere?
Here's hoping this place doesn't become a casino or worse yet a brothel,i'd hate to see Cody get an S.T.D.
