JGPaiva's GridMove and Ahk Tools / Re: Other Variables in Grid definitions
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 09, 2012, 05:13 PM »
Hi psyFungi,

Unfortunately, those variables (MonitorWidth, monitorRealWidth and so on) are obtained directly from the language GridMove is programmed with, so they can't be modified.
At the time I implemented the grid parser, I tried to have variables for creating grids, it makes much sense, however I found it to too hard to do, especially without interfering with other variables of the program.

Thanks for the heads-up on the source code archive, it had to be removed due to some trouble with antiviruses (I was an idiot and left some .exe there). I have uploaded it again, should be OK now. As a bonus, you also get a more recent version of the code than the compiled one.

Is there a way to change the color of the "selected grid". Right now it is a milky white and for some reason, I can hardly see it... It would be great if I could make it blue for example. I also don't understand why the numbers and lines fade out behind the selection grid. They should remain clear and the selection color should make it obvious what the selection really is - not the numbers fading out.

Hopefully this is possible with changing an .ini file or something...
Hi,
There is no way to change the color of the overlay except byt editing the code itself, honestly it never occured to me that someone might wish for a different color there :)

Regarding the error, it wasn't supposed to happen. I think the source code version isn't exactly the same (I had a problem with my laptop and lost some GridMove code a while ago), so it may actually be a bug.
That might explain the different file sizes of the compiled version, but probably it's only because you compiled it with a newer version of AutoHotkey which must include a larger runtime environment.

If you'd like, I have a newer (unreleased) version of GridMove which I can send you. Hopefully it will not have that bug. Just contact me through email so I can send it to you!

Official Announcements / Re: I want to try an experiment on the site for March 2012
« Last post by jgpaiva on February 17, 2012, 04:50 AM »
i'm just curious about it -- curious to see if the ads bring in less or more revenue then when we tried it in 2007.
Talking to app about different advertising services, it occurred to me that an advertising service that would be really interesting would be one where you could set some fee for showing ads on your site for a day, and then have NOTHING shown unless someone reached that fee.
These sound a bit contradicting, if you want to compare different years, you should use the same format in both, I suppose.

I think it's worth the try, and honestly I'm also curious about how much revenue DC can generate in ads.

[this is pretty obvious and I'm sure you have already thought about it:]
I think this experiment cannot assert the effect of ads on the long term, though. DC already has a user-base which was created partially by its donation-only model, and I fear it might be lost or changed to something totally different because of this move.

Hi bkeadle, right now, that's out of the scope of GridMove.
But I think skrommel's winwarden could help you with that ;)

justice: I'm not sure if this problem was raised before, but the fact that you have one account for all users also that the additional trouble that if some of your users start marking the email address as spam (people to strange stuff), everyone's emails might end up in the spam folder.

I like "winner" and "contributor" best :)

That said, looking at my previous two NANY mugs (from '09 and '10) it seems that they don't make any mention of the fact that I was a participant or a winner or a completionist or anything like that.
Also, this :P

Why not write "winner" on the NANY pictures? Since everyone who delivers a program is a winner, I guess it looks more cool than "participant" :P

[edit] not that I think about it, it kind of reminds me of that Charlie Sheen thing with "Winning". Maybe we should just leave it as it is, then ;) [/edit]

I know the participants in NANY 2012 really did work a lot, but that mug is implying that they didn't leave their computer since 31/dec/2010 until 1/jan/2012 ;)

Well, I'm not sure how to classify something as "not active" :)
If Maestr0 still has a need for this, then I guess this would be active. My intention was only to warn you so that you don't get your hopes high of receiving a reply ;)

Have you guys thought about having a teach-your-self-paced-AHK school/sub-forum?  I think there used to be one here a long time ago.
I think you're looking for this ;)

General Software Discussion / Re: adding tab support to apps that dont have it
« Last post by jgpaiva on December 25, 2011, 10:57 AM »
Not sure if this helps, but from my experience with develping GridMove in Win7, windows enforces a strict per-app partitioning, and GridMove is unable to access other process's windows unless it is running with elevated privileges.
I'd say this is the kind of think that even if it exists, it would become deprecated fast as I believe Windows is moving fast  in the direction of having all apps running in user space.

^I'm aware of that.  :)

But the moderators have allowed the post to remain up for several hours now, so I thought it wouldn't be a problem responding. Especially since the question is from a supporting member.

Sorry. "My bad" as the saying (used to?) go.
Oh, I did not mean to say that you shouldn't respond. I was just warning people to pay attention to who posts the replies, since some may not be trustworthy (clearly of any of the posts above this, AFAIK).
