General Software Discussion / Re: How to make Firefox Not Open PDF Files
« Last post by bob99 on April 03, 2011, 08:48 PM »

In Firefox 4

Tools > Options > Applications > Application/pdf  I set to "always ask"
FWIW, that's the setting I found when I took a look just now.  May be it's the default if you don't have any PDF software "installed"...I tend to use SumatraPDF portably.

I use PDF-XChange viewer and with that setting whenever I click on a pdf I get this pop-up allowing me to decide what I want to do.

General Software Discussion / Re: What Blackberry apps do you use?
« Last post by bob99 on April 02, 2011, 11:41 AM »
BlackBerry 9650
Pretty much just use the standard features.  Did add these:

QuickLaunch
Partial description from site:
"QuickLaunch allows you to setup an unlimited number shortcuts to various functions such as Websites, Email, SMS and PIN addresses, Phone numbers, 3rd Party Apps, Videos, Images, Audio files, Screen Capture, Device Info, Weather, Bluetooth and WiFi Toggle, Camera and much more! In addition to these you can also launch Blackberry Options, Calculator, Calendar, Tasks and even the App Switcher. Configure a convenience key to activate QuickLaunch and when pushed a menu will pop up showing a scrollable list of your configured actions."

Documents To Go
Many have heard of & already know what it does... Partial description from site:
"Documents To Go Premium Edition is an all-in-one solution that provides users with the ability to view, edit and create Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files and attachments as well as view critical PDF files all on their BlackBerry smartphones. Also included is an easy to use desktop application offering bi-directional file synchronization and providing users with a simple way to transfer and manage important documents."

Percentages
Description from site:
"Percentages is a tool which allows you to make percent related calculations instantly and effortlessly by simply entering two values.
Whilst percentage formulas are not necessarily complicated, they can quite often take some working out. If you deal with percentages in any way then this app will make your life easier."

Another CONGRATULATIONS to everyone that worked so hard in reaching and EXCEEDING the initial goal.
It is the "regular" posters old and hopefully some new ones as time goes on, that provide the knowledge, assistance, programs, snacks and general good times that continues to make DonationCoder so unique.  Which I believe helps increase the membership not only during fundraisers but on a daily basis.

General Software Discussion / Re: What Android Apps Do You Use?
« Last post by bob99 on March 24, 2011, 12:16 PM »
Before I changed to a different platform these were two of my favorites:

Swiftkey Keyboard - Keyboard app that uses AI to make typing on your Android device smart, fast and personal.  It almost always knew what word I was going to type next. And there have been a few updates since then.

Edit: I also received a notice they have developed a version for Android tablets.

Gemini Calendar - Easy to use calendar application that synchronizes data with Google Calendar.  The developer is very responsive and offers the app as donationware.  Also has quite a long forum thread on Android Forums

General Software Discussion / Re: Excel - pattern matching in cells

In addition to the help & great site links above the forums at Mr. Excel might be of help. http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/index.php
I looked and Mr. Excel was briefly mentioned in the forums back in 09.  The forum members are quite active like they are here and helped me out recently with something I was trying to do.

On the main page http://www.mrexcel.com/ he also has tutorial videos, a blog and other helpful information.  Some free some some not.

Not affiliated with them in any way.

I noticed PCLinuxOS mentioned here and in a couple of other posts on the forum.  In looking for information on different live cd's I came across this PCLinuxOS site: http://www.pclinuxos.com/
There is also a link on this site to a monthly PCLinuxOS magazine: http://pclosmag.com/
The magazine is available in html or PDF versions.  The PDF versions I've downloaded so far are 40-60 pages and cover a variety of topics.  Reviews, tutorials, configurations...

Searched the forums here and didn't see either of these sites mentioned before and thought I'd pass them along.  Might be of some help.

Not sure if this would enter into the picture or not. Collection of sales tax on purchases versus accepting donations.  In the event someone didn't read further and just clicked buy now.  I've read recently there are US states trying to collect sales tax on online purchases.

Passed this on to a lady I work with.  She'll love it and probably have one made by tonight.
It will be much more ergonomic than the real thing.

The Getting Organized Experiment of 2007 / Re: My System - Index Card Centric
« Last post by bob99 on March 12, 2011, 10:34 AM »
If i did a software version, here is what i would do is this:

A very opinionated piece of software that tried to present a specific method of operation.

There would basically be two views:
  • Working View
  • Maintenance View

In the "Working View" you would see a very clean desktop which tried to reproduce the visual card metaphor.  This might be so minimialistic as to restrict view to a stack of cards and then 1-5 chosen cards laid out and displayed very large on screen -- like real size 3x5 inches.

Similar to the old Microsoft Cardfile or Azz Cardfile discussed here? https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=16548.0

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Clipboard Help+Spell - Top Priority Requests for 2011
« Last post by bob99 on March 11, 2011, 09:58 AM »
I found mouser's index card system very effective but the problem is that there is no software version for it. I think it is possible to code it in simple way but with OCD mind here i have hard time doing that.

Anyone here know similar software or can point to such system ? :-)

+1 to this gentleman.  This philosophy makes him a credit to his profession and is due the respect.  It is the "other side" which I unfortunately have had dealings with that get my goat.  Anyway, didn't mean to get off topic.  Just had to put my $0.02 in.

Now they have to go to court and file papers and lawsuits. What a hassle.

It's called billable hours = $$$$$$$
IMO whether the reason it is legitimate or not, win or lose it's still $$$$$$$

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't read the explanation on the right side of their web page... till now.  :-[
I was still using the trial activation code and hadn't thought about not seeing it in the email confirmation from them.

Living Room / Re: Recommendation for removing eye flash
« Last post by bob99 on March 09, 2011, 01:53 PM »

Sorry I took so long to get back to thank you for your words, work and suggestions
@app... I have to agree with the others that the 1st one makes him look stoned.  But that really wasn't a bad thing that day.  When we got back I showed to to my wife and that was her immediate reaction, "he looks like he's stoned" and she got a good laugh.  ;D Thanks.  In the almost 16 years we had him he would sometimes sit in a room just staring into space.  It was called his "look at the pretty colors" look.
Anyway, your 2nd one is almost on. Even using the "human eye." Many say (me included) animals are more human than people give them credit for.

@vlastimil thanks for yours.  I like "carpet eyes" but too green.  But between yours and app's it has given me the way they need to look.  In fact I found a plug-in for Paint.net called "Eyeshine Removal" I've done a little work with and I think it is going to do the trick.  Soon as I'm happy with it I'll post to the other thread with pics of the rest of the brood.

I've tried not using a flash when taking pet pics without a whole lot of success.  Either the room is too dark or it comes up blurry cause I've shook.  Even with the shake detection feature on.  But I'll keep trying.

Again, thanks to all.
246

Thanks to you both.  It is apples and oranges. What I was looking for.
@barney... all we need is two more as of this writing. I bought one.
@Curt... Think I will hold off on NoteZilla at least until I work with AllMyNotes a while.  It may be I decide to go the sticky route also. And I'm sure there will be another discount offered down the road.

General Software Discussion / AllMyNotes or Notezilla - Looking for a Comparison
« Last post by bob99 on March 09, 2011, 09:58 AM »

It's already been announced both programs are on special today.

AllMyNotes at https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=26018.0

Notezilla at https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=25975.0

Reviewing other posts on DonationCoder both are respected and quality programs.  And comparing features on both company web sites it looks like both have comparable features.  With the exception of sticky notes.

Does anyone have experience with both that would be willing to offer their thoughts or a short comparison?  I am not sure if the "sticky" note feature will used that much in my case.  And unfortunately I will not have time to run through both trial versions today to compare. I'm trying to determine if (except for the "sticky") it is an apples to apples, apples to oranges, or oranges to tangerines.  While today's discounts could enter into the decision wondering if it should.

Thanks

could a plug-in be added to CHS that if it sees it is an image, send it to SC?

One of the things that i could do is let users tell CHS how and where clipboard images should be stored.

So you could tell CHS, when it detects image data on the clipboard, save it to a file named C:\ScreenshotCaptor\Screenshots\Chs\DATE_TIME.extension
or C:\ScreenshotCaptor\Screenshots\YEAR\MONTH\TIME.extension
etc.

And possibly, (as an option?) allow SC to pop-up and show the image.  Then if you wanted to use any of SC's tools control is passed on to it to continue?
249

It would be nice but I voted #2.  I've been using CHS a lot more since yesterday.  Still getting used to it but it's been very helpful with keeping track of my text clips.
And since I realized I can drag and drop an image into SC, rename it and add a note.  Which is what I'd want to do with CHS.
Not sure if it's doable, or the right thought process but could a plug-in be added to CHS that if it sees it is an image, send it to SC?

Thanks for taking the time to do the video.
Helped me see I should be using CHS more.
