I always use cleartype, and thing both dina and consolas are great. I use dina as my primary font for programming, and andale mono for notepad.

Is it me, or inconsolata looks damn fuzzy with cleartype?

Living Room / Re: Versioning of files
« Last post by jgpaiva on October 05, 2007, 10:30 AM »
I usually use a system that keeps it simple, fast and organized, and at the same time allows me to always work on the same filename. (note: this probably makes more sense for folders with more stuff inside than for single documents)

I work on a directory named "current". When i want to save the current state, i go one directory up, copy "current" to "copy of current", create a new folder with the current date/time and move both the "copy of current" and the other "date/time" folder inside that new one.

The advantage of this is that i only keep 2 folders at the root (the current and the last backup), and i can still quickly browse through the older copies (by double-clicking the top folder as many times as i want until i find the one i want).
Here's a folder tree of gridmove's folder:

gridmove
-20070906
--20070810
---20070705
----(etc)
----Copy of Current
---Copy of Current
--Copy of Current
-Current

The big advantages are that i can do all this in XYplorer, and all in a matter of seconds, and that i can quickly browse the tree of older revisions and choose one.

ADVISORY: using this system with something that takes a lot of space (like images) and has frequent revisions is a VERY bad idea, you'll run out of space pretty fast. For that kind of thing, a CVS/SVN or filehamster would definitelly by a better idea!

Don't want to be instantly redirected to a TinyURL and instead want to see where it's going before going to the site? Not a problem with our preview feature.

;D ;D

We agreed that there really needs to be a large DC gathering at some point in the future.
Let's expect that by that time, i'll be working in the US and will be able to join you! ;)

ps:
just noticed the way you handled the "attachment missing" problem... Smart!!

General Software Discussion / Re: Need Help Identifying a Program
« Last post by jgpaiva on October 03, 2007, 05:25 PM »
There are several programs out there that can do that.

Assuming it isn't running under a service, please download [http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/processesandthreads/processexplorer.mspx]process explorer[/url], run it and select file->save as... Then attach that file to a post here, so that we can see which processes you have running (if you don't have problems with that).

mahesh2k: wouldn't that be a bit of overkill?
I mean, there probably are tons of apps out there that already do that.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: drag window to edge automatically resizes it
« Last post by jgpaiva on October 02, 2007, 07:58 AM »
Pretty good, painz!
I'll make it dualscreen and post it on the "post your grid here" thread :)

As for the resizing problem, i also have it, as i have a similar config. Currently, the best way to do that is press win+g followed by 'r', and gridmove will be reloaded.

Auto detection is on my todo list, but it probably will take a while :(

What I don't get is why a shameless plug for DialogMove, and not for GridMove.
EhEh... You're right, a shameless plug for gridmove would also be suitable :)
The difference is that with dialogmove, the used doesn't have to do a thing, the program moves the window automagically, whereas with gridmove you have to press a hotkey for the window to move. Also, DialogMove doesn't resize the window, while gridmove does.
Still, thanks for the publicity :D

I use Dialog Move and is happy with it. No need to be a shame  - the only problem I have found is that some info windows which really shouldn't move, also are moving.
I'm glad you like it, curt!
If you find any window that shouldn't have been moved, just press F11, and it won't be moved next time ;)

I see, tekzel!
What i don't understand, tekzel, is what are the advantages of using the "span" mode.

Here's a solution:
<shaaaaameless plug>
Use DialogMove, which moves the new dialogs that come up to your mouse position ;)
</shameless plug>

I dont like how dialogs that pop up centered are split between the displays, anyone know how to fix that?
How exactly are you splitting monitor signal?

If windows identifies your system as having 2 monitors, the taskbar should only be on the first mon and all windows would appear centered on the first monitor.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Run on exit
« Last post by jgpaiva on September 28, 2007, 01:30 PM »
Here's one solution for your problem:
I've made one ahk script that accepts 2 command line parameters: the first program and the second program.
It'll launch the first program, and when that program is closed, it'll launch the second one.
I've included a demo shortcut that demonstrates how to use this program.

So, configure the shortcut properly and just have your client open thunderbird through this it.

(the program is attached to this post, both in source-code and compiled version.)

If i understand correctly your request, you're looking for something along the lines of a network monitor.

Microsoft has a free one available at: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=837243
But i'm pretty sure there should be others a bit more user-friendly.

Here's another one by microsoft: https://www.microsof...C&displaylang=en

Funny, Curt. That one doesn't work for me. I use the F12 key to toggle between the info panel and a full screen length file list. I almost always have Preview tab on the Info panel selected, wonder if this has anything to do with it? Anyway, can't reproduce that one, but it sounds sweet!
The feature curt mentioned (which i think is the one which originates the double-click problem curt mentioned in a previous post) is only available in thumbnail view, you probably use the details or the details + thumbnail view ;)

I stand with f0dder, affiliate links make no sense and significantly reduces the quality of the forum, but i think that has been discussed in other threads and has been declared as banned. What intrigues me is why IQlover still uses that sign, showing an absolute disrespect for the rules of the forum.

As for links for other sites, please don't ban those, i like to visit other member's sites, and find some of them are very interesting!

I agree. It's a "locate.exe command line" issue. I am going to play with switches... in the meantime can anyone of you confirm that issuing "locate.exe a" immediately gets (in the CMD prompt) the list of files with an "a" in the filename?
I can, it gets me a VERY long list of files!
