General Software Discussion / Elite Freeware: Great Software Blog
« Last post by mouser on August 21, 2008, 11:24 AM »
Came across this blog today because it had a review of Find and Run Robot, but there are a LOT of really nice thoughtful freeware reviews on the site.

The author of the blog seems like a no-nonsense kind of guy -- it's just a blog full of good reviews.  All he says about himself is he is from Chile.  They must be pretty serious about their software in Chile.  I'm impressed.

His blog deserves a much bigger audience.  I'll be visiting the site regularly.

Living Room / Honesty: The Web Video Comedy Series
« Last post by mouser on August 21, 2008, 07:46 AM »
Here's a series of five (so far) short web videos that are pretty hilarious.  Imagine a world where everyone says what they are thinking..

echo, you should try the tiddlywiki samples that come built into the new farr:
https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=13673.0

just type: gwp or tiwi

however: i do think that a nice tag-based note taker plugin is needed and it's one of the plugins i'd like to work on.

General Software Discussion / Re: How to clone large HDDs?
« Last post by mouser on August 20, 2008, 07:50 PM »
The fact that some areas are not readable, will that cause problems with XXClone?

thats a good question, and no way to know until you try.

here is what i would do:

FIRST:
copy all your data files using normal copy methods.

ONLY THEN:
proceed to making a drive image or drive copy.

I have all 10 volumes of the critically acclaimed graphic novel  "Y: The Last Man".

250px-Y_-_The_Last_Man_23_-_Widow's_Pass_03_-_00_-_FC.jpg

I will send to a dc supporting/honorary member in the USA (sorry shipping costs make it too much to send overseas).

Personally i didn't like it but it seems to be fairly well regarded.  At least it's big enough to keep one occupied for a while.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Another FARR similar app - Executor
« Last post by mouser on August 20, 2008, 11:26 AM »
I just think maybe mouser should take some time write a quick tutorial (or video) to let more people know FARR.

absolutely 100% true -- i have plans to make a series of videos soon.

By the way, people don't realize that one of the reasons it's a bit harder to add keywords to FARR than it is in other programs is because FARR is designed to make it easy for people to share alias packs and update them, without risking overwriting their own aliases.  That's why there is all this business about having different alias files, etc.

I feel it is faster and easier to set up (keywords).

I think it's probably true that FARR needs to make it easier to add new keywords.

If you set the optional alias prefix to something other than blank, then farr should only match against stuff in your start menu, etc., and not against any aliases.

If you are still seeing results you dont want.. go to your search folders and disable all but the 2 start menu items.

And if you are STILL getting results you dont expect, send me a screenshot or something, because it should be behaving the way you want at this point.

One of the best things about this site is the interaction and feedback between coders and users (the term "user" doesn't do justice to some of the people here who have made an art out of testing, feedback, and feature requests).

So welcome to the site ma5t3rw1tt and welcome to this new section for Eric's software.

actually skrommel has recently started re-updating his page and i have talked to him about automating the recompilation process -- i hope he will finalize the process so he can recompile them all when needed without too much trouble.  i do hope the ahk lead developers are trying to get the antivirus people to stop their irresponsible behavior.
