Screenshot Captor / Re: new icon for Screenshot Captor?
« Last post by mouser on September 01, 2008, 12:28 PM »
Ok let's make this official:
Actually 4 related icons are desired:
 • Screenshot Captor Normal (currently blue monitor image)
 • Screenshot Captor - While Capturing (currently red monitor image)
 • Screenshot Captor - In Timed Capture Mode (currently normal blue monitor image)
 • Screenshot Captor Normal but big 64x64 for desktop icon

Icons should be 16x16 with transparency.  ico format preferred i guess but png or gif would be ok too.

Winning icon set will get a dc mug with their name or chosen text on it.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Game Review: Toribash
« Last post by mouser on September 01, 2008, 11:50 AM »
Wonderful mini-review.  People have told me about this game before but it's really nice to read your thoughts about it.

[one request:
instead of linking to images off site, can i ask that you change the images to be attachments uploaded to the post?
this request tells how to place them where you want them: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1996.0
by attaching the images to the post we insure that they live forever, dont eat anyone's bandwidth, and it makes the post easier for me to promote into a blog item.]

Developer's Corner / Re: A plugin based information bar in Windows
« Last post by mouser on September 01, 2008, 06:36 AM »
Here's an idea i have been playing with for a standalone program but it would make a perfect addin for the information bar.
The idea is to let you create progress bars for tasks or events.
An event progress bar item basically just lets you set a start and end date and shows the progress torwards that event (you might even use it to show your remaining expected lifespan), or if you had option for repeating events the progress within the day, month, year.  Does that make sense?
The task progress bar item would just be a bar you could adjust manually.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: How to safely erase content from CH+S's database?
« Last post by mouser on August 31, 2008, 01:22 PM »
yeah im afraid if you need it permanently/unrecoverably ERASED then what you need to do is exit CHS
and then wipe the files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Clipboard Help+Spell\Database\
and maybe also wipe your backups in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Clipboard Help+Spell\Backups\

General Software Discussion / Re: Drupal is f*cked

i got a nice book on drupal and started thinking i was too hard on it.
then i spent an hour screaming today after discovering that the forum i created was in accessible to any users and spent an hour trying to figure out why and how to enable it.

i truly believe drupal is a powerful and horrible evil unusable system.  avoid at all costs is my advice.

A few minor things added:

new tag: username - links to users profile.

when you click the url button you are now prompted for url and title -- should make it easier for new people to post links properly (note you can leave title blank).

added bbc code buttons to profile signature.

Im definitely going to do this.  I'm thinking we can use a cool new banner with cody that nudone did, and have some different sidebar widgets and other fun stuff. like:

 • recent topics started by the user
 • recent posts made by the user
 • recent replies in topics started by the users
 • users bio
 • dc awards won by user
 • profile links to other sites the user is a member of
 • current forum activity of user (online, what post they are reading)
 • bookmarked posts
 • donation link
 • custom text chosen by user

any other ideas?

I think it would be easy to get carried away and make the mistake of trying to make this like a super customizable page that is yet another myspace/facebook page, etc.  and i think that would be a waste of time and effort.  no sense doing what other sites do better.

But i do think it would be fun to have a kind of standardized dc page automatically generated for each user that looked cool and showed all these things.

There is an easy and safe way to travel with your laptop overseas.

Step One, take apart your laptop into small pieces:
laptop-parts3.jpg

Create a handbag out of the keys and give that to your girlfried to carry:
key_bag2.jpg

And give her a pair of these cpu earings to wear:

Wrap the rest of the pieces in ziploc bags and swallow them, along with a small screwdriver*.

When you arrive at your destination, merely reassemble the pieces and your are ready to compute!

[*you may want to simply purchase a small screwdriver at your destination instead of swallowing it as screwdrivers are a considered a deadly weapon on planes now]

For you profile freaks I've added optional profile links to:
Twitter, Linkedin, MySpace, Facebook, Flickr

If anyone wants me to add more profile links to other services, please tell me:
 • name of service
 • form of website url with userid
 • and provide me a 16x16 transparent gif image

Beautiful.. I love when you create these attractive web pages for your programs.
Eric -- you should make and submit "pad files" for your programs.

Also, if wikidot supports it, you can now embed a widget listing recent posts in your section of the forum using an rss feed of this board.

I wrote some RSS mods today: https://www.donation....msg126766#msg126766

I thought they might be helpful if people wanted to put an rss feed on their page just showing their posts, or replies to their topics, etc.

I've added some new parameters to make it easier for people to stick a useful widget-like feed on their website using an rss system.

with the sa=recent action listing RECENT POSTS, you can now add parameters:
u=4,5,6 (this says show all recent posts by users # 4,5, or 6)
tu=10,11 (this says show all recent posts made on topics started by users #10 or 11)
tl=1000,2000 (this says show all recent posts made on topics #1000 or 2000)

with the sa=news action which lists recent TOPICS, you can now add parameters:
u=4,5,6 (this says show all recent topics by users # 4,5, or 6)

Rss feeds now also obey same nofollow rules as posts.

Enjoy!
