General Software Discussion / Re: SpiderOak - very nice people =)
« Last post by kyrathaba on July 07, 2011, 09:41 PM »
The only complaint I've had with SpiderOak is that I got up to 10 GB of space because of others signing up through my link.  Then, about 10 days later, SpiderOak starts bucking up on me, saying I've exceed the maximum of 8 GB of free backup space.  So I wind up having to remove quite a few files from S.O. backup.  Grrr...

Other than that, I've been completely satisfied, especially given that this is a free service.

For me, the strongest selling point is there zero-knowledge-of-my-files architecture.

Lifehacker had a recent article comparing several of these types of programs.

email from BenuBird (dunno why he doesn't just join the site and post *hint, hint, Benu):

"...Those guys must be cheating!  I barely managed to break 100-thousand! ;)
"

Possible, but unlikely, and would require considerable skill to break my encoding/obfuscation. I broke 135K when testing.

I've got nothing yet, save for the idea. smiley

So not much stress so far, regarding this project  :D

mouser,

I gave the entire wiki a good once-over, and liked what I saw very much: well thought-out.

Looking forward to how this proceeds, and will volunteer myself as a tester.  If any of the development needs fall within my abilities/knowledgebase (only thing I can think of is a helper utility later on), I'm glad to do that too.  I think down the road I may be able to lend a hand in creating some user-friendly tutorial materials.

ProtoCards (aka ScriptingCards) is meant to be an engine/library which can be used:

    * Out of the box to play generic multiplayer card/board games without implementing any game-specific rules (i.e. just provide pieces and board for users to manipulate)
    * As the core library upon which to build a specific card/board game with support for custom game rules/logic
    * A multiplayer lobby/hub for players to meet up and play.

Exactly what I was envisioning, mouser!!  Excellent stuff!

Oh-ho!  BenuBird is drawing nigh, gentlemen!  But it's still a close thing between hamradio and thancock20!

We've passed the 30-mark in number or hangman competitors, and hancock20 has surpassed hamradio's score by a comfortable margin!  Ball's in your court, ham...

Life is indeed full of stress. I look forward to the early beta.

Okay, I will sign up at Redmine when I get home from work.

Is there anything I can do to help begin this project?  Or, I suppose I should say that the project has a huge headstart in that mouser has done a lot of Python work that can be leveraged in this direction.  What can I do to assist, if anything?

Busy day today on the scoreboard.  Looks like we gained a handful of new players in the past few hours...

I'll give this one a swing on some of my current projects Cool

Cool.  Thanks, Ath!

Indeed it was!  As such, it would probably convert to 70,000 or more.

Looks like thancock20 may give you a run for your money, though  :o

Thanks for the great comment!  The time limit does spice things up, doesn't it?  The initial time limit should never fall below 45 seconds though. Lemme know if you have any feature requests or problems.

Okay DC members, there is now less than a month until the first high-score prize is awarded, on July 31st. Thus far, 28 people have registered to compete. Currently, only one of those twenty-eight is a DC member -- Hamradio. It just so happens that Hamradio is also the highest scorer, to date (congrats Ham!)

I encourage everyone to participate. Good, fun, friendly competition :D

Programs that HAVE an installer, but don't include an uninstaller.  And, by extension, programs whose uninstallers don't completely uninstall all of the app's files.

One of my chief annoyances is when a family member "borrows" something of mine (without asking first) and then doesn't return it!  Grr...

I've updated the program to include the ability to check for (and, if available, download) an updated version.  In the process, I've incremented the program's version a few times (during dev-testing), so that's it's up to 1.0.0.5.

Anyone who has installed the program should uninstall, then download v1.0.0.5 and do a fresh install.

Version 1.0.0.1 is now available.  It adds "Help"->"About" menu/submenu:

I found a few broken links in the CHM help file.  Version 1.0.3.9 fixes this.

Okay, version 1.0.3.7 has been released, and is a fairly major update, in that it provides ToolTips for each of the application's controls, and context-sensitive help via the HelpProvider component and the Help button in the application's TitleBar (as always, you can update to the latest version using the "Update" button in the program's "About" dialog).

The new context-sensitive help's associated CHM document contains:

  • 37 topics
  • 110 local links
  • 50 internet links

Thanks for that link, skwire.  Based on the article, my program is of the type "Physical SLOC" rather than "Logical SLOC" :)
