As far as i know, there is even someone who build the 1701-D (Star Trek fanatics know what I am talking about) in it...on true scale!

Ah....the goddess that is Salma Hayek in 'From Dusk Till Dawn'.

If I could only wet my tongue like Quentin Tarantino did...that waitress would get a major tip from me!

Living Room / Re: Would someone mind recommending a good laser printer?
« Last post by Shades on September 24, 2010, 09:06 PM »
Then the question becomes:
In what quantities are you expecting to print?

If that is low, take a Samsung or HP laser printer that supports the dual page printing.

But if it is high then I can recommend from personal experience Panasonic (5.000+ euro).

My experience with them was excellent although a little short-lived. In the company I worked for we leased a set of 4 from these printers. 3 of them had to be replaced after 3 months, because their innards were completely done (according to their counter), while the outside was still brand new. These babies were litterally printing continuously day and night in that period. And they did practically without any hiccup.

Same here on my XP SPIII. Immediately after executing the Access Violation error keeps occurring after an interval from a second, just as in the post from Perry.

My PC has no (group/domain) policies set. Actually it is a rather fresh XP installation (3 days old) and I am running it in the default administrator account.

2. Have you considered including the same functionality thats been around for years on mobiles and is called predictive text or T9. I'm surprised that the great MS haven't ever included this is in Word and to be honest I have never seen it in any word processing or text editor program. Why is that? It can't be hard can it?

[rant]
Maybe it is not hard to include T9 but I thank [insert your favorite deity here] that it is not included. I for one am really not waiting to read SMS language in a document. I already hate to see it in SMS messages themselves.

Besides that, T9 always predicts the wrong word for me and it costs me too much time to fix that so by default I disable this functionality in any cell phone I use.

On-topic:
@timns
Please, if you want to include T9 in your application, feel free to do so. But please, make an option to easily disable it as well.

DC Gamer Club / Pixelprospector blog is awesome!
« Last post by Shades on September 18, 2010, 09:58 PM »
Hi all,

On my semi-regular 'hunts' for nice games for kids (age 3 to 9) to play, I encountered this site/blog (pixelprospector).

The URL above links to a post with a link to a youtube video of ten minutes that shows you 190(!) recent freeware indie games and their download links.

From some of these games the quality is simply amazing and worthy to be mentioned here in the DC forum.

Well, what usually works for me is simply to make her laugh.
*snicker*
Tell her you like her shoes... ;)

...but that you (absolutely) love the feet inside them. (after all, you could be sending a mixed signal by saying that you love woman's shoes)

And if the above sounds too much like a suckup...a small kiss on the arc of her foot can turn the situation into a "interesting" night   :-*
Either with the lady in question...or your cellmates (but then again, you already liked woman's shoes, didn't you?) :D :D :D :D :D

Funny.

This whole concept of advertising was unknown to me, but 'Burma Shave' as a term was not, because over here in Holland we had a good music band operating under that name.

May I suggest the following application: Magellan explorer (link to the feature page, see section Background operations).

It is not cheap with a price of 39.95 USD, but it fits your bill perfectly. Actually, it is capable to put multiple file operations in multiple locations in a queue! A 30-day trial is available.

No affiliation, just a happy paying customer. This piece of software was the first one I bought through the internet, just because of this feature (and you want it you can pry it from my cold dead hands!)

If you care so much about the environment and/or want a critical look about our society and the way we as a race do things...you should check this site (lowtechmagazine.com)

There are really some pearls of knowledge/realizations to be found over there, because of all the research this guy puts into his articles.

Living Room / Re: HDCP Cracked - Is HD Content doomed due to lack of DRM now?
« Last post by Shades on September 17, 2010, 07:39 PM »
But it will not be of much consequence. Most DVD´s that come out still have very old type of protection on them. My guess is that this is done to have a legal `stick` with which they can drive you to court and beat you up there with it, so to speak.

Following that line of reasoning I don´t think this cracking of HDCP will have a major impact.

Living Room / Re: Tipping - Why does this appear to be a "requirement"?
« Last post by Shades on September 17, 2010, 07:34 PM »
Now tipping is comparable to bribing public officials and law enforcement? Oh man, even Mr. Pink didn't go there.

This thread gets better with each post! I almost expect Godwin's Law to come into play soon!   :D

Jim

I wasn't kidding. In some parts of the world, it's like that. Quite literally. Those are the attitudes. Obviously not in the US or many other places, but there are places where bribing the police is fully expected just like tips. It is a part of their expected income.

Over here in Paraguay it is not deemed wise by and for gringos to leave in a car in the days before a (inter)national happening, like for instance mothers day. The chance that you get picked and have to pay the fine that they make up on the spot is very high.

Here in the capital it is not so bad, but going to neighbouring cities...

As it creates web-based tests, the processing of them should be relatively easy.

Synchredible looks like a nice freeware tool to synchronize two folders, also in (semi-)automatical way.

The page may turn up in German, but there is a button to select the English language as well.

EDIT:
Oops, forgot to mention that this software was positively mentioned on AddictiveTips

Melbourne. It's raining.

Overhead it's overcast.

North? Clear skies.

South? Clear skies.

East. Clear skies.

West. Overcast.

Just very odd. And it's always like that. 4 seasons in a day.

Anyone get bizarre weather?

Come to think of it...was that not a (rather famous) song?  :)

No idea actually. Just a coincidence. It's a phrase though here. Dunno...

Found the song:
'Four seasons in one day' by Crowded House

And the lyrics:
Spoiler
Four seasons in one day
Lying in the depths of your imagination
Worlds above and worlds below
The sun shines on the black clouds hanging over the domain

Even when you're feeling warm
The temperature could drop away
Like four seasons in one day

Smiling as the shit comes down
You can tell a man from what he has to say
Everything gets turned around
And I will risk my neck again, again

You can take me where you will
Up the creek and through the mill
Like all the things you can't explain
Four seasons in one day

Blood dries up
Like rain, like rain
Fills my cup
Like four seasons in one day

It doesn't pay to make predictions sleeping on an unmade bed
Finding out wherever there is comfort there is pain
Only one step away
Like four seasons in one day

Blood dries up
Like rain, like rain
Fills my cup
Like four seasons in one day

As I said, it was a long time ago for me. If I only had the time, I would enjoy participating in tabletop games like D&D again.

Oh oh, nostalgia is kicking in...

Ravenloft is only to be played when you have a good Dungeon Master who is up for it.

And I can tell you now that there are not that many.

This setting was tried by our group when it was still active, but our DM did not have the 'chops'. Reading the novels that are associated with this setting is a joy. As a character you have to be really able to survive any night outside the safety of your home in Ravenloft (played it when 2nd Edition rules were still king).

The game improved a lot when I aided our DM by playing the main evil character. My fellow players really hated me for all the mean streaks I introduced to the evil character. I think when you have enough players (5 or more) to let one of the imaginative players to be the main evil character.

After all, with Dungeons and Dragons games there is only one real rule...the DM is always right.

Besides, the 2nd Edition books start by saying that all the rules and stats from the books are optional and definitely not set in stone. Later rule books are unfamiliar to me.

Process Explorer from SysInternals (free, closed source).
Process Hacker (free, open source).

Both of them are more than capable of fulfilling your request. For finding out which .dll file my personal preference would go to Process Hacker... although it's interface is very similar to Process Explorer, the UI from Process Explorer wins.
