Post New Requests Here / Re: ahk script to open tabs by hovering
« Last post by jgpaiva on October 20, 2007, 05:00 PM »
Unfortunatelly, i don't think i can improve the original script :(
Maybe someone knows a way to solve those problems, or can access more information than i can with ahk..

Ok.. See the post above for an updated version, with a lower time setting.
Now it doesn't flash, but each time you hover over to select a button, you must take the mouse out of the startbar and then hover over the other button. (i hope you can understand what i mean..)

I'm updating Win2k Sp-4 to Sp-4 as I write this. Virtual PC is pretty slick. I like your idea about looking for a windows image online, João, but wonder about the legality?
I hadn't thought about the legality, but i guess that if you found a version of XP that isn't activated, it shouldn't be a big deal... Also, there should be machines that only contain a free disk, and you could install windows on that disk.

1) i have no idea... i can't find any other way to do it :(
2) if you'd like to make another script for another program, you'll need 2 pieces of information: the window class of the application, and the control id of the tab control. These can be found with "window spy" which comes with ahk. On the code itself, these are the 2 values between ". (mIRC and mIRC_SwitchBar1). Just replace those with the values for the other application.
3) where it says "sleep 200", replace with a higher number for more time (or lower number for less time) :D
4) the script isn't aware of the state of tabs (actually, it doesn't even know what exactly it is clicking), so, there's no way to avoid clicking the currently focused tab :(

PS: the version i uploaded keeps clicking repeatedly when you hover the tabs?

That's something you can configure at least in Virtual PC. Open File+Options+Keyboard. Then change the configured AltGr shortcut to something else and you can use AltGr correctly in the guest system.
That's why i said "didn't" ;)
At the time, there was only the option of using the following combinations:
  • ctrl
  • shift
  • ctrl + shift
and as altgr is identified as ctrl+shift, pressing it would be recognized as the host key, no matter which option you chose.

Well.. You could not take VMware out of the picture right away. Just like this guy made a bunch of images of linux distros for VMware player, i bet there should be someone out there that has already built a few windows images for it too.

Ok, now i understand!

I've made one script in ahk that does just that, but only for mIRC. I can't do it for opera, because opera's naming of controls depends on how many tabs are open and my script can't identify when you are hovering over the tab bar.

I'd also consider the option of VirtualBox.

I've tried all 3 of them. I decided to stick with VirtualBox because at the time, both VirtualPC and VMware didn't allow me to use AltGR to insert special characters while VirtualBox did.

On the other hand, currently i'm using VMware Workstation (now it supports using the windows key as "host key") and it's way superior to VirtualBox (ubuntu runs noticeably faster), so i suppose that from those3 options, i'd go for VMware player.

On (yet) another hand, I'm not sure if VMware allows you to create new machines, i think it only allows you to use "virtual appliances" already made by someone..

These are pretty similar products, but if you're going to be running windows, probably Virtual PC is the best option, since it's made by microsoft and works quite well with windows guests and hosts.

[edit] After re-reading this post, i want to apologize for making it this confusing. In conclusion, i'd go for Virtual PC [/edit]

kalos: i understand what you mean by tab. Making it for opera should be fairly simple, but here's 2 questions:
If you want a new tab to be openened when you hover over the other tabs, how can you select the other tabs? If it works like this, everytime you change tabs, a new one will be opened.

As for mirc, imagine you have 2 tabs open: the status tab and the #DonationCoder tab. What will contain the new tab that is opened when you over each of those?

Huh? Have you done a statistical analysis comparing population size with fanaticism? Or is it just because as a PC user, Mac fanatics stick out more.
I don't think so, nontroppo.
Following the example of the people in my classes (about 200, all studying computer science on a pretty good university), i can give you a good example:
When someone says something bad or a joke about the wintel plataform, either there are no comments, there is agreement or there is laughter.
EVERY SINGLE TIME someone says something like that about the mac platform, there are at least 2 guys either saying the person saying that is wrong OR that a similar thing happens in the wintel platform.
This is a statistic from 4 years of dealing with this kind of stuff every day.

Skrommel's Software / Re: DragKing vs Remote Desktop
« Last post by jgpaiva on October 20, 2007, 06:23 AM »
I can make that fix, actually i have it almost ready.
The only thing missing, is the window class of the remote desktop windows which i can't fill out because i have no computer to remote desktop to.
So, you can just fill that out on the modified script i've made from DragKing. Currently, it ignores Opera windows, so, you have to replace opera's Window Class with Remote Desktop's Window Class. Here's what you should do:

  • Install autohotkey.
  • Run DragKingModified.
  • Run the remote desktop application.
  • Focus the RD application and select "window spy" from the tray menu of dragkingmodified.
  • Click the RD application, and read the 3rd line in window spy. It must say "ahk_class " followed by the window class. You'll need that window class.
  • Open DragKingModified with notepad, and search for "OpWindow". It should have 3 hits. Just replace those with the right window class and save the file.
You're done! :D

PS:if you'd like to change the tray menu back to the normal dragking menu, go to line 188 and remove the initial ';' from ";Menu,Tray,NoStandard".

I hadn't seen this the first time around.
What do you mean by "by hovering"? By hovering where? And how can you open an empty tab in mirc?

1Gb here, and I seldom use more than 50%. I must say I have a good memory manager, O&O's CleverCache.
Unused RAM is wasted RAM :)
Can you believe that i saw that one coming even before i read your post? ;)

TeaTime: f0dder is right, you should read more about these "memory optimizers", if most of your RAM isn't being used, it probably isn't 'optimizing' that much, it's making you waste speed.

That fly swatter thing looks like it'll cause the same problem as the Opti-Grab (tm) (http://www.muhka.be/...ginal/image_1740.jpg) - the inventor should prepare for a big class action lawsuit.
For those curious about what Opti-Grab is and what problems it caused... Check here ;)
