Living Room / Re: Need assistance to uninstall Screenshot Captor
« Last post by mouser on October 26, 2008, 09:07 PM »
Amanda,

40z is right, there is an uninstall link inside the Screenshot Captor folder, OR you can use the normal windows Add/Remove Programs control panel dialog.

As a general principle, before you run any uninstaller you should make sure the program isn't currently running.  Screenshot Captor will kill any currently running process during the uninstallation so that isn't an issue with Screenshot Captor, but it can be the cause of the problem you mention for other programs, especially ones that live in the system tray and run in the background (just a heads up for future incidents).

Additionally you should know that sometimes that message from a program is just really telling you that the program has left some truly harmless and tiny user settings files on your computer in case you decide to reinstall the program.  In this case my suggestion would be not to worry about such "residues" but you could always delete the program's left over program/documents folder if you really wanted to.

ceemeister is quite right, and it's a good trick to be aware of

especially if you accidentally delete some of the files manually, or use a 3rd party removal tool that doesn't remove all of the junk.  in these cases often the best thing to do is reinstall the program, then remove it using the add/remove control panel.

as newave hints, i have planned to offer a gridmode to plugin writers, that will let you output any number of columns in any format you want.  i *will* be writing this.  but you may have to wait a couple of months as i work my way through all of my programs.

Unicode Image Maker / Re: Open Image as Text?
« Last post by mouser on October 26, 2008, 02:05 AM »
oh, I thought this program can convert images to texts file! So, I was wrong!

There are some very good programs that do that (Tomos in the post above you lists one).

Unicode Image Maker is a more unusual program which is designed to make a graphic image that looks like a unicode text string formatted exactly the way you want it to be -- it's useful if you want to display some non-english text in a program or on a web page by using an image.

Post New Requests Here / Re: Open Containing Folder
« Last post by mouser on October 25, 2008, 02:40 PM »
what he means is, let's say you have a program running on your screen, like notepad or maybe some program started at windows boot time.  so now he's saying it would be nice to have an easy way to jump to that program's directory on disk.

i guess there are process explorers that will do this -- just seems like one of those ideas that should be built into windows so that you could click on a window of a running program somewhere and say "take me to this program's home directory".

Finished Programs / DONE: AHK Coding Snack Idea: Deluxe AHK Script Manager (AXEM)
« Last post by mouser on October 25, 2008, 08:05 AM »
I've been trying to think of a coding snack idea that a DonationCoder member might make as a way of showing DC support for the Lifehacker AHK project (see here).

And i think i came up with a cool one.

I call it Deluxe AHK Script Manager (AXEM).

Here is what it should do:
  • When you start the script it discovers a list of .ahk scripts in its Scripts\ subdirectory.
  • Double clicking on tray will present a simple form with each script listed on its own line with a checkbox on the left.
  • Checks will be shown for scripts that are currently running.
  • The user can then enable and disable scripts from that dialog by checking boxes.
  • Scripts that are enabled will be launched if not currently running; scripts unchecked will be closed.
  • Right clicking on the menu will show menu list of scripts that user can select to open the .ahk in a text editor.

So this utility would be an excellent way to manage a set of scripts and test them.

Anyone feel like coding this? (dont forget to then post it in the Lifehacker AHK group!)

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Secondary monitor support
« Last post by mouser on October 25, 2008, 12:41 AM »
Works now, just testing and making sure monitor number is remembered and that it behaves well if monitor count changes midstream.

Should be in next LBC release this weekend or early next week at the latest.

Can I just say thank you to those who were patient waiting for this feature but still did not stop reminding me to implement it.  Like most things it was actually easier to implement than i expected and i wish i hadn't put it off for so long, as the code will be useful in other projects.

One of the best things about this site from my standpoint is how fun and useful it is to engage in these interactions with users that lead to better programs

each time I get the error above when inserting into Screen Captor 2.42.01

the solution is to Generate a license key for Screenshot Captor  :P
21648
how about the repeat donor gets the option to get a second key they could give to someone else -
(maybe not a lifetime one?) - not sure myself if it's good idea but just throwing it out there anyway.

actually this is already the unstated policy.  when you donate you get a link that will upgrade any one forum account to full membership with license key.  you can give this link to a friend.

i have to agree with jgpaiva..
in fact so much so that this is quite a fascinating little meta discovery.

the difference in readability is huge.  it's kind of surprising really how much easier it is for the mind to be able to process the items when you are only looking at the body text for one item at a time.
