My own Clipboard Help+Spell and other clipboard tools can do these kinds of things, though they are overkill if you don't need a clipboard helper.

Site/Forum Features / Re: An Idea about the "announce your poroduct section"

i think i nice complement to this would be to show a special block of text+links on the post page for anyone who has under 3 posts.

The block of text would simply describe our basic rules about posting and include links to the Announce your software section, etc.

In other words, it will be a little helper information / warning guidelines for people during their first few posts.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Updated plugin: FARR MostRecentlyUsed 0.5.1

Farr keeps track of the window that had focus before farr was enabled, and i have code to get the current url from firefox or internet explorer -- so giving a farr plugin the ability to tell what program/web page the user was on before triggering it is not too hard, but what you do from there is a dif quesiton.

Living Room / NaNoWriMo: National Novel Writing Month 2008 begins now
« Last post by mouser on November 01, 2008, 06:39 AM »
This is a great yearly event.. I'd love to hear about DonationCoder members who participate and succeed.

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, NaNoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.

Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

interesting idea.. can you give a specific example or two about how this would work in practice? ie an example of using farr for this purpose with a specific app?

ctrl+shift+alt+l was my secret unchangeable emergency hotkey for bringing up the preferences if you otherwise lose the system tray icon and launchbars.  i thought for sure no one would be insane enough to define that key for something else.  obviously i was not considering the fact that superboyac was a user..  i'll add in a winkey.

try re-downloading now.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Folders not displaying contents
« Last post by mouser on October 31, 2008, 10:28 AM »
i think you must be downloaded a cached version somehow.. not sure if its your hosting provider giving you cached version or some other cause.  are you using internet explorer? try firefox if so.

otherwise i can upload a dif file name which should solve it.

DcUpdater / Coming Next: Support For Optional Beta Downloads and Stable Rollbacks
« Last post by mouser on October 30, 2008, 08:47 PM »
I think the next thing i'm going to work on is the ability for users to indicate that they want to be made aware of beta versions available for update, and to be able to rollback to stable versions if they so choose.

Should make it easier and safer to test stuff.

dont feel stupid because right now you cant control how it's sorted, which is currently by creation date -- this is a feature requested by people and i have to implement this an an option.  actually let me force it to modification date for now, since that seems more reasonable.

LaunchBar Commander / Sliding docked window losing "ontop" status
« Last post by mouser on October 30, 2008, 03:33 AM »
just to let anyone know who is experiencing this that i'm aware of the problem -- it seems that occasionally the docked autohiding windows lose their "ontop" status and get hidden by other windows.  trying to find a workaround.

i'm also trying to figure out how i can reduce the size of the docked/hidden windows to 1 pixel instead of what it is now, 4 or 5.

Announce Your Software/Service/Product / Re: Kids PC Time Administrator v4.6.5.3
« Last post by mouser on October 30, 2008, 03:24 AM »
excellent.  just to let you know that in general sites like ours frown upon people who do mass posting of what are in effect advertisements for software on a forum.  in general an in the future i think you'll find that while it requires more work, you'll get a better more friendly response if you make a real posts on a forum introducing yourself and your software, without copying and pasting some text over and over on tons of sites.  as i said, even though it's more work, at least people know you are a real person who isn't just trying to spam everyone.

ps. ssslab, just out of curiosity are you the programmer or do you work for the company in some other capacity?

anyone can get sued for anything.. whether you have money or not doesn't really affect that.
but how much money you are making (or causing someone else to lose) may affect the incentive for someone suing you.

ie if you are making millions -- people will sue you whether they have grounds or not.
if you are not making anything -- someone really has to have it out for you to sue you :)

dc member ewemoa has a working version of this plugin that i have been testing.  it's EXTREMELY cool.

Site/Forum Features / An Idea about the "announce your poroduct section"
« Last post by mouser on October 30, 2008, 01:37 AM »
I'm not sure we get enough posts in the "Announce your Product" section to have this matter (yet), but i did think of 2 things we could do if we end up getting too many self-promotional posts there:

1) require that only after a few normal posts can you post an announcement there
(this might be traditional approach to cutting down adverts but im not sure it accomplishes what we want since some new coders/companies would want to tell us about their software for the first time they come to the site and not really a big reason why they shouldnt be able to).

2) require that only programmers or those who are directly involved in the product *creation* are allowed to post such announcements -- not company public relations people/marketers/hired affiliates.  i like this one -- it basically says we want to hear about your product but not if its just from someone doing paid posting, etc.

moving this to the announce your software section.. we allow people to post about their own software but you need to say so when you are, and post in appropriate section.
