You could also use a Telesales Autodialer solution such as 'Touchstar' (Don't particularly recommend that one, just the only one I can remember the name of right now)

Actually speaking of George I quite like his facebook page:

Living Room / The Downfall of Internet Advertising
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on May 24, 2012, 01:38 PM »
With the increase of people using Ad-Blockers, whether it be a standalone system, or a browser plugin, the age of Internet based advertising, is coming to an end.

So, I hear you ask, how does that affect websites, and businesses whose entire profit model (or the greater majority) come from selling advertising (Google, Facebook etc...) - Well, for these companies it means they are going to have to take drastic measures to actually remain profitable...Google, not so much a they DO have other options available to them (Countless patents, Augmented Reality, Self Driving Car and such)

Google AR Glasses.jpg
Google's Augmented Reality Glasses

However, the downfall of Online Advertising does mean one very good thing for the rest of us...it means websites are going to have to focus more on great content to pull user's into their space.  Of Course, this does not mean that ALL Online advertising will die, but it will be much more reliable in the sense that it will have to be done in ways such as plugging a product in a blog post...and if the blog post is uninteresting, a user won't instantly have the belief that said product is better than the rest. (A rough example of this type of advertising, is how DonationCoder.com mentions products and websites within post's and reviews.)

DoCo Review.png
A competitive review of Word Processing Software from DonationCoder

Internet | People on the Web neither want, need nor trust advertising, writes Eric Clemons, an information management professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, in a much-commented-upon post at TechCrunch. And the reason they don’t like ads is simple: they can find out what they need to know about whatever they want to buy via other virtual means — “community content,” professional and peer reviews and the like. They certainly don’t need Google search results that advertisers pay for, he says, calling that a form of “misdirection.”

So take note, news and other sites relying on ads for salvation: there won’t be enough revenue, even after the recession, for with so many sites competing for ads, “prices will be driven lower and lower, for everyone but Google.” And for those expecting a “free lunch” of ad-supported content, as the Economist observes in a separate article, “the lesson of two internet bubbles is that somebody somewhere is going to have to pick up the tab.”

Internet Advertising is certainly not the first industry to fail, and will most certainly, not be the last.  An example of another dying/dead Online Trade, is Website Design.  It used to be, a designer could charge HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars, for what was essentially, a very basic website design, and then came along Dreamweaver and Online Builders (Wix.com etc) - and now, Designers basically have to beg for contracts at a price that is just not sustainable.

So, where does this leave the end user?

I personally think that this leaves the consumer (end user) in a much better position.

Although, thats not to say that website owners are not fighting back.  Back in 2010, Ars Technica wrote an interesting article about an experiment they ran:

An experiment gone wrong

Starting late Friday afternoon we conducted a 12 hour experiment to see if it would be possible to simply make content disappear for visitors who were using a very popular ad blocking tool. Technologically, it was a success in that it worked. Ad blockers, and only ad blockers, couldn't see our content. We tested just one way of doing this, but have devised a way to keep it rotating were we to want to permanently implement it. But we don't. Socially, the experiment was a mixed bag. A bunch of people whitelisted Ars, and even a few subscribed. And while others showed up to support our actions, there was a healthy mob of people criticizing us for daring to take any kind of action against those who would deny us revenue even though they knew they were doing so. Others rightly criticized the lack of a warning or notification as to what was going on.

We made the mistake of assuming that everyone who is blocking ads at Ars is doing so with malice. As it turns out, only a few people are, and many (most?) indicated you are happy to help out. That's what led to this hopefully informative post.

In summery, Advertising in the general sense, is a dying trade, so find other ways to help the sites you love.  Consider donating to them instead of clicking adverts (At the end of the day, even if you only donate 1c for every link you would have clicked or seen, you should feel safe in the knowledge that if everybody donates $5/10 each to the sites they love, they will actually have MUCH more money to provide better content, and not actually need to rely on said advertising.  We know this works, because it works right here at DonationCoder.com - You will not find a single paid advertisement on this entire website...and thats because it is community driven.  What started off as an experiment has turned into over 270,000 members and 285,000+ Posts.  So, advertising is not the be all, and end all of a website, there are certainly many more means of supporting your favorite sites, so please do!

Actor James Doohan, who was best known for playing Scotty on Star Trek, was granted his wish of having his ashes sent to space on Tuesday.

The actor died in 2005 at age 85.

However, an attempt to send his ashes into space proved unsuccessful in 2008.

Happily, Doohan and over 300 other deceased individuals had their cremated remains sent into orbit thanks to SpaceX’s unmanned Falcon 9 rocket, which launced from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

Other people whose ashes were sent to the stars include Gordon Cooper, who was one of the Mercury seven astronauts. He died in 2004.

Over 200 of those people, like Doohan, had previously unsuccessful attempts to get their ashes into space, which was mainly due to technical difficulties.

Precisely - BUT this difficult member is saying that simply by browsing the website she can read the forum without logging in - I can't see how this is possible. AS far as I can tell no articles on the website link directly to forum articles and even if they did they should lead to a login page before being able to read the posting.

Side note...I think I just broke your disclaimer (No part of this website can be reproduced in any form without written permission) :P

May be that should be 'may be reproduced' ! Anyway I give you permission ;-)

By the way if any one does find a security whole please let me know by PM - not on the open forum here.

I plan on running my current desktop until I am forced to get a new one, but I think I may buy a server and get away from consumer hardware entirely.

I don't see my need for a new tablet anytime soon. What I have will last. I use it for reading, and not much more.

My laptop, I rarely use. And I don't like to use it. I only use it for when I travel and can't use my desktop.

Yeah a server is possibly the best way forward...With the opportunity of running 4CPUs and up to like 512GB RAM...Plenty of room for expansion...and even if you didn't wanna move to linux, that would make a pretty sweet Windows 7 machine  ;D

It will most likely run Linux. I hope to extricate myself from reliance on MS by then.

Run Android on it just for the laugh haha

Ive only had this PC for around 3 months now - But it was an 'off-the-shelf' model - the only thing ive done is put in a better gfx card and and extra 2GB RAM

My next machine is going to be something that will last...

Maybe something with Dual 8 core CPU's - 32/64GB RAM, Dual GFX Cards...That should be the last one I have to build for quite some time I imagine.

A school of bottlenose dolphins have figured out how to enjoy a free meal with the whelk waste from a seafood factory, marine researchers believe.

And like any school, there are also lessons for youngsters on how to do things properly.

Third year Swansea University marine biology student Jodie Denton counted how many bottlenose dolphins turned up after the licensed discharges by the plant at New Quay, Ceredigion.

She said: "There does seem to be a correlation between dolphin numbers and when the factory is open."

Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre (CBMWC) has identified 300 individual dolphins which use the bay, one of the largest in Europe and a location for sighting wildlife including seal, basking shark, minke whale and even Orca.

But it seems only the dolphins have cottoned on to the pickings to be had when Quay Fresh and Frozen Foods Ltd makes one of its discharges.

Living Room / Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson faces extradition
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on May 15, 2012, 06:34 PM »
group Sea Shepherd, Paul Watson, has appeared in court in Germany.

The marine conservationist faces extradition to Costa Rica over charges arising from a clash with a ship that was fishing for sharks.

The confrontation occurred in 2002 in Guatemalan waters.

An official from the prosecutor's office said Mr Watson was accused of using his vessel to intimidate another, putting the crew at risk.

Guenter Wittig said Mr Watson was currently in temporary custody and a judge would decide whether to formally place him in detention pending extradition.

Sea Shepherd is a controversial direct action group best known for disrupting Japan's annual whale hunt.

In the past there have been collisions between its vessels and the whaling fleet, and its activists have also boarded Japanese vessels.
'Attempted murder'

The group said the German warrant related to an "alleged violation of ships traffic" which took place a decade ago when it "encountered an illegal shark finning operation" - referring to the practice of catching sharks, slicing off their valuable fins and returning the shark to the water where it will usually die.

On order of the Guatemalan authorities, the group says, it instructed the crew of the Costa Rican vessel in question, the Varadero, to head back to port to be prosecuted.

Living Room / Musicality test reveals UK's 'untapped talent'
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on May 15, 2012, 06:33 PM »
You might have more musical talent than you realise.

Results from a BBC experiment that tests musical skill suggest that many people who have not had formal training still have musical ability.

And talent is not influenced by age, sex or occupation either. The test indicated people from all walks of life underestimate their music potential.

Dr Daniel Mullensiefen of Goldsmiths College, who led the study, said some of the findings were surprising.

A Chilean man has been charged with the murder of Japanese astronomer Koichiro Morita in Santiago earlier this week.

Prof Morita, 57, was part of an international team involved in building the Alma radio telescope facility in northern Chile.

He was found collapsed outside his apartment in Santiago last Monday and died hours later in hospital.

Christopher Quijada, 25, is accused of killing him during a street robbery in the early hours of the morning.

Initially it was thought Prof Morita died as a result of an accidental fall, but an autopsy found he was struck on the head with a heavy object.

The authorities say Mr Quijada has confessed to tripping him over as he tried to escape being robbed, causing him to hit his head on the pavement, but denies murder.

The suspect will be held in custody while the investigation continues.

If convicted of robbery and homicide he faces a minimum of 10 years in jail.

Living Room / Asteroid Vesta is 'last of a kind' rock
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on May 15, 2012, 06:32 PM »
Vesta is the only remaining example of the original objects that came together to form the rocky planets, like Earth and Mars, some 4.6 billion years ago.

This assessment is based on data from the Dawn probe which has been orbiting the second largest body in the asteroid belt for the past 10 months.

The findings from the Nasa mission are reported in Science magazine.

They confirm that Vesta has a layered interior with a metal-rich core, just as Earth, Mars, Venus and Mercury do.

Using information about the shape of the asteroid and its gravity field, scientists can even say something about the likely size of this core.

The Dawn team calculates it to be about 220km (135 miles) across, representing about 40% of the radius of Vesta, or roughly 18% of its total mass.
