General Software Discussion / Re: Fedora 8 hits the streets!

EhEh.. I wouldn't mind having my windows wallpaper changing colours with the time of the day!
I wonder if there's something out there that'll acomplish this.

General Software Discussion / Re: Paint Shop Pro X2 - installation from hell ...
« Last post by jgpaiva on November 08, 2007, 05:46 PM »
I think right now Corel only deserves one of 2 things from you:
  • You move to another company and never ever come back
  • You download and use a ilegal version of X2 and tell them they don't need to bother anymore because you decided to download a cracked version of their product

Honestly, it makes NO sense for you to go through all those hoops when it's definitelly their incompetence's fault.

I think i'd go for allsnap (see review here). It hasn't been updated since 2005, and i also don't think there's any need to update it. I am so used to it, that i don't even notice it there anymore, only when it's missing ;)

I don't think that having microsoft/apple/linux people staying in one version of the OS and not updating it would be good though, the OSs need to keep up with the new technologies, since our life is in a constant change. Regarding winamp, for example, i think it's a good thing it has been updated, i like to be able to connect my zen micro to it, and i love the new interface in the most recent version! :D

I think it has been on for those 3h 7m, just not for those 178 days :P

(nope, no hibernation.. that's evil! ;) )

Actually, it'd be interesting to know how many of us read every post (or at least have the number of unread posts always at zero).
I check every new post, not only to see if something interests me, but also to check for spam. (no, i don't really read every one of them, there are several threads that i just ignore the content and check for spam). So, i usually keep up with the forum.

Here are my favourite clipboard managers:
Clipboard Help And Spell (made by our own mouser ;) )
KlipKeeper (a FARR v2 plugin, by hamradio)
and
ditto a very full-featured clipboard manager.

Living Room / Re: To wide-screen or not to wide-screen
« Last post by jgpaiva on November 05, 2007, 04:08 AM »
• is it better to go wide-screen if i'm not going to watch movies on PC? since i sort of miss the extra height of the normal size..
That depends on what you'll be doing.
For regular web browsing, if you usually use the window maximized vertically, you'll notice the lack of vertical screen space. On the other hand, you'll be able to see your desktop of the windows beneath the browser though its sides (since you don't really need to maximize it horizontally).
For coding, i'm pretty sure there's nothing better. You'll be able to see 2 files at the same time, and that's VERY useful ;)

• if i go for the wide-screen model, will my games be shown stretched?
Yep, it does happen sometimes (less in more recent games), but i actually prefer most games streched.

• this model doesn't come with any extras such as USB ports etc. is this a plus or a minus?
That'd be useful, but definitelly nothing i'd give more importance than the actual quality of the screen.

• what is the general feelings of this model, if anyone is using?
I don't have that specific model, but i have a samsung 205bw and love it. The only problem is that my laptop's vga out isn't that good and i sometime see some flicker :( From what i've read, this is solved by using the hdmi interface. Unfortunatelly, my laptop doesn't support it.

General Software Discussion / Re: Which MP3 tagger do you use?

As of its latest version, winamp also has the abbility of tagging mp3s. That's what i'm using right now.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: zoom windows instead of maximize (from MacOSX)
« Last post by jgpaiva on November 04, 2007, 07:42 AM »
I see what you mean, mkristof!
From what i understand, this could be done with calls to the windows api (which informs about the state of the scrollbars).
Unfortunatelly, currently i am not at that skill level, of someone could step in... :(

I think i'm not following what you mean (note that i have never used mac osx on my life).
But it looks like the kind of stuff that is mac-only, since it must be the app itself that informs the operating system of what would be the ideal size for it to be resized. If it's that, probably it won't be possible in windows.

Anyways, could you direct me to the talk you had with the author of DM2 (if it's a plublic conversation), anr/or please explain your idea a bit better?

« Last post by jgpaiva on November 02, 2007, 01:56 PM »
I see what you mean, and you are right about its use.

It's easy!:
dir /s > out.txt

That'll save a listing of every file/folder under the current and sub-folders to the file named "out.txt".

Then, run a diff of those ;)

A few points i think are important:

about static pages:
- better for search engines indexing
- better for non-english people
- better if you intend to be reading it and practicing at the same time
- easier for continuing where you left

These last 2 can be fixed if you do smaller screencasts, and the 3rd can be fixed if you speak slowly and with a good mic. As for search engines indexing, i think that the description with screenshots of the video on the same page as the video would largelly contribute to that.

about screencasts:
- don't forget to add a constant watermark to the video with your website's link, as people tend to use other people's videos everywhere. this way, you'll even thank them for distributing it ;)

Nudone fantastic job!
I've already shown these to all my friends and everyone loves them!!

Some questions about "reboot":
- is that a snake coming in from the door?
- where did cody find that giant bird? is he like his big brother that suffers from Gigantism?

I was the mod who deleted the post.
I'm very sorry, but i understood it as a spam post, not related to the original topic. Sorry, but sex-related posts advertising some kind of products are usually spam and i didn't read the post correctly.

Again, very sorry EmporerEJ. Maybe there is a way to get the post back to this thread?

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: drag window to edge automatically resizes it
« Last post by jgpaiva on October 29, 2007, 05:41 AM »
JWeetje: GridMove won't replace maximize. But you can use the grid posted here to acomplish something very similar to what you're asking. With this, you drop the windows in the middle of the screen, and they are maximized leaving some space on both sides.

tinjaw: Thanks! :D I'm using the edge grid on my dual-monitor config, i think it's the best one because it incorporates the 4-part grid (for the second monitor's IM programs) and still has a good work area in the middle ;)

Hmmm, there are only two options: Obelix (after the doctor ordered a strict diet without roasted boars) and Tintin. Guess he's the latter one ;)
Yep, it's Obelix!! :P :P (actually, now that i remember well, obelix's dog and tintin's dog are very similar, i can see why you say that..  ;D)

Not that i ever liked tintin much (i hated how he was always so lucky), but that hair of his is just unmistakable ;)
