20977
ah this sounds like it might just be a simple bug in my code.. ill have a look and see if i can't fix it and release an update asap.
20978
im not sure there is a good way to do this with regex.. which is why im thinking i should offer an alternative way of specifying these kinds of arguements are desired.

i dont see how its anything you coud be doing.. but im a bit at a loss. let me try something and post a new version in the next week or so.. one thing id like to hear is if you exit SC, then restart it, and view some screenshots, and then take a screenshot, does it still mess up the first image?

Multi Photo Quotes / Re: Multi Photo Quotes: What settings do you like?
« Last post by mouser on January 13, 2009, 05:08 AM »
A setting ive been really enjoying is to turn of tiling, set 1 image only (uncheck fill with images option), and set new monitor borders to top+bottom 200, left+right 0. and using randomhaiku as the quote book. gives a really nice elegant letterbox display.
20984
New version is uploaded, along with another dynamic quote mediapack that fetches random haiku's from http://www.RandomHaiku.com (thanks to dc member ewemoa for suggesting this).

A couple of thoughts off the top of my head, some of which are contradictory:

 • I think the general sentiment from dc posters is that we would rather not see this particular argument continue here, because it seems like it's one of those arguments that is going to get personal and ugly if it continues.
 • I think everyone has made the point they feel like they need to make -- my general feeling with such arguments is that sometimes even though something makes you uncomfortable it's important to let people at least make their case before you curtail discussion.
 • There is a substantive and very complicated muddy issue being raised here, the idea of ideas started in one program being used in other programs.. This is such a sticky wicket that trying to discuss it on a thread like this is, in my view, inappropriate. It might be a good subject for a separate discussion that doesnt focus on one particular program.
 • Trying to look at things from both sides.. i know that both of these programs have fans, and for good reason. I can see how both sides would feel offended by the other -- and i'm not in any position to take sides or decide who is "right" or "wrong".
 • DC readers are intelligent enough to research the issue and continue the debates on the company websites if they wish, so there is no need to beat dead horse here.

We welcome both companies to participate at DC --but i think we should ask them both to respect the fact that their positions have been advanced now, and that it would be unreasonable/unacceptable for either party to make an attempt to "disrupt" the other person's threads going forward -- in other words, without saying anything about what has been written so far, i'd ask both people to avoid engaging in a tit-for-tat continuous process of arguing on each others threads. Have faith that the DC readers will learn about both programs and decide which is best for them.

Might be fun to find a random machine generated poetry tool to generate random short poems to show.

posted about before, let's keep discussion on that thread for continuity:

General Software Discussion / Re: Microsoft Songsmith
« Last post by mouser on January 13, 2009, 12:40 AM »
Poor microsoft can't get a break.. Video may be cheesy but the idea is nice.

I don't know the research behind it, and I know this isn't the first such program to do this kind of thing, but it does look like they put a lot of effort into making it easy to use, and i can certainly see this being extremely useful for very low budget amateur song tinkerers. It seems like it would be especially useful to people making novelty/satire songs for videos on the web. And it's free. Very cool.

General Software Discussion / Re: Powerpoint screensavers ?
« Last post by mouser on January 12, 2009, 04:29 AM »
Im guessing the reason why is that the authors dont want their tool to be used to make a lot of money for someone else who plans to sell a screensaver.

My new Multi Photo Quotes can be used to build and package your own screensavers and is free for non-commercial use.

Phil's idea is actually quite clever and i never thought of it

But i can see why Carol would want a PPT specific thing.. it might be possible to kludge together something which basically cleared the screen then launched the free powerpoint viewer to show a ppt, then killed the ppt viewer on user input.
20995
If you are having trouble building a media pack or have questions about it, please ask here.

Note that the packaging scripts have been improved and reorganized as of version 1.23.02, so if you don't have that version you might want to delete your MultiPhotoQuotes directory and reinstall the new version.

One of the nice new things about the addons built is that they can be uninstalled by users.
Remember that mediapack addons can also images, quote books, tools, etc. They can include their own help file, homepage url, and even an update file (using .dcupdate format).

The QuotesDaddy "book" addon is now available from the mpq web page.

Installing it will give you a new quote book that fetches quotes dynamically from the quotesdaddy web page; i didn't want to include this with base install because people might get scared when the program tries to connect out to the internet.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR displaying html code in results
« Last post by mouser on January 12, 2009, 01:08 AM »
i need to fix that bug with it evaluating html in result list instead of showing
etc.

or are you asking me to add something different?
20999
just a note you could have just typed "My Dropbox" in the exclusion list, the prefix of %MYDOCUMENTS% is not needed (in fact i have to go check to make sure it would work!)

here's the entire contents of my dyn_quotesdaddy.txt quotes file which works:

DcQuoteFile|QuotesDaddy.com Quotes|Dynamically fetched quotes from the website quotesdaddy.com|quotesdaddy homepage|http://www.quotesdaddy.com
$$$appcap %appdir%\tools\pscrape.exe -u"http://www.quotesdaddy.com/feed" -e"
.*
(.*)
";;;%lastappcap%;;;$$$html2ascii

in case its not clear, the commandline for pscrape is:
-u"http://www.quotesdaddy.com/feed" -e"
.*
(.*)
"
