DC Gamer Club / GOG's Monstrous Fall Sale, and free Little Big Adventure 2 game
« Last post by Deozaan on November 03, 2016, 02:50 PM »
As part of GOG.com's Monstrous Fall Sale, they're giving away Little Big Adventure 2 if you claim it within the next ~39 hours from the time of this post.

I can't say for sure whether or not LBA2 is any good. But free is free. :D

I guess they have a merchant account so the fee is not handled like it is for personal accounts.  DUH!  :)

I think PayPal still charges a fairly significant fee, which is why $1 is the minimum. They're probably only getting like $0.60-$0.70 when you only pay $1.

Display Fusion is pretty great if you have multiple monitors. That alone is worth the "beat the average" price.

modified:
WHY on earth does it say "invalid attachment"? I don't know what could be wrong.

Because the forum can now have attachments from quoted posts and you are trying to display your attachment in a quote, so it is looking in peglegpete's post for an attachment. Just move your image outside of the quote and it will work.

EDIT: The really interesting thing is that peglegpete's quote of your quote of peglegpete's post has the attachment working properly.  :tellme: :D

I accidentally hit "Modify" a lot recently when I mean to hit "Quote." And in my efforts to not do that, I've found myself hitting "Quote" a lot when I mean to hit "Modify."

I'm not sure what the deal is, but it's something I've been having a lot of trouble with lately. But I just assumed it was another example of PEBCAK.

having two plus updates a month for example.

Two a month. That's cute. :)

It seems like Google apps have an update every couple of days.

[rant] It's part of the rapid, iterative development mindset. Push out lots of little changes, quickly and often. In some ways it's good. Instead of having to wait 6 months or a year (or longer) for lots of new features to arrive, and practically have to learn a new product when "the big update hits" you get them all as soon as they're ready and learn how to use them one at a time. But it also changes how we pay for things. When you had a single large update where lots of new features were added, it made sense to charge an upgrade fee for it. But now with constant updates a little at a time, people don't feel like any one change is worth an upgrade fee, so developers start charging an ongoing subscription. [/rant]

I've disabled automatic updates on my device. I usually just click "Update All" once a month and ignore any prompts about app updates until the next time I'm ready to update them.

Wow. Neat.

I thought it was a series of commercials for a new kids' movie coming out soon. That is, until the last segment where all the developers start talking about it.

When trying to update MediaInfo from 0.7.61 to 0.7.89 today, the update had problems and I had to reinstall the previous version I had. Has anyone here had this problem?

What is MediaInfo and what does it have to do with Windows 10? This probably belongs in a new thread.

NTFS has many advantages over FAT32, however, if you plan to use the card in different devices, FAT32 would be smarter to use, because it is the most widely supported file system, no matter the operating system that any of your devices is using.

The biggest problem with FAT32 these days is the 4GB filesize limit. Or is it 2GB? Either way, it's just too small.

Junction Point, perhaps?

I, too, experienced problems with Dropbox and Junctions in the past:

I just tested out using Junctions to point "My Dropbox\Games\Diablo II\save" to "Games\Diablo II\save" and it appears to be working properly as far as the fact that it's the same folder and same files, unfortunately it doesn't work at all with regard to Dropbox recognizing the files are changing and synchronizing to the cloud or to other computers.

Has anyone else successfully gotten something like this to work with Dropbox?

Like Stoic Joker, I finally gave up on that.

How are you interfacing with these things on Windows 7?

I've installed the Hangouts Chrome Extension/Chome App. I can call for free (using a headset) very easily straight from these little apps. I've also had to set up multiple Chrome Profiles/accounts so each one can run the Hangouts Extension separately.

You are right though: There doesn't seem to be a way to add contacts from these apps. For that you need to use https://contacts.google.com/ which will sync with the Hangouts app after a few minutes. It's not convenient, but it's free. And once the contacts are actually in your contact list, they're easily and quickly searchable from the Hangouts app.

I'm on Windows 10, but the idea should be pretty much the same. I've been doing it more or less this way for several years now. I haven't paid for phone service (except an occasional 30 days on a pre-paid plan while traveling) since probably 2010 or so.

Not sure how many you have, but it might actually be easier to do it yourself:

http://lifehacker.co...itize-cassette-tapes

OK first of all: Talk about a blast from the past! That article is 10 years old. :D

But more importantly: That's actually a pretty good idea! But the hard part may be finding a working cassette player somewhere!

This is tangentially related:

Does anyone know of a service similar to RetroFloppy that will allow you to digitize old audio cassettes? I've been working on some family history and have some old audio recordings of family members talking or telling stories that I would like to get converted to a format that will be easier to preserve for the future.

General Software Discussion / Re: Articy:Draft SE -- Experience or Opinions?
« Last post by Deozaan on October 12, 2016, 10:20 AM »
Yeah, I watched the videos, but I still felt confused about it afterwards.

I was feeling kind of embarrassed about that, but now I don't feel so bad. I mean, if you've used both Scrivener and Articy and are having a hard time explaining the difference, then how should I be able to figure it out just from watching some videos when I haven't actually used either of them? :D

Thanks again for your input. :)

Google Voice/Hangouts uses your Google/Gmail contacts. It's fully searchable.

Make sure you click the phone icon so it knows you're searching for contacts with phone numbers. If it thinks you're trying to start a new IM/Hangout, it will search for people in your contacts who have Google+/Hangouts accounts as well as random people on Google+.

Some of the reviews state what it does better than I'd be able to.  It's definitely beyond just flowcharting- but rather a story writing tool, storing relationships, conditions, branching logic in a manner that's tailored to the task.  You can do everything manually in many other tools.  But there's something about using a tool custom built for the task, with all of the QoL involved.

I just didn't see how that was much different than what you can do with something like Scrivener.

But you may be right. Maybe it's something I'll have to try for myself to get a feel for what it can do.

General Software Discussion / Articy:Draft SE -- Experience or Opinions?
« Last post by Deozaan on October 09, 2016, 11:40 PM »
Have any of our DC writers here heard of or used Articy:Draft SE? More info about what it is here:

http://store.steampo...ered.com/app/230780/

The best that I can tell, it looks like it's pretty much just some flowchart software. I'm trying to see the point/appeal over some other FOSS alternatives. But I have to admit, the marketing has me wanting it even if I'm not exactly sure what supposedly makes it so good.

So I'd love to hear any thoughts, opinions, especially about personal experience with A:D SE, or suggestions for alternatives and how/why they're better than A:D SE.

Thanks!
