Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Last used clipboard item at first position

Hi Loeffel.

I can see the value in this -- let me figure out the best way to do it as an option.  There are a couple of ways it could be done, I just have to decide on the best one.

General Software Discussion / Re: Et Tu, CCleaner!

Yeah, I have been a user of CCleaner for a long time now, but it's been getting to the point where I'm very cautious when I download and install it to make sure it's not installing adware, etc.

Back from gencon!

It was a *ton* of fun, as it has been in the last 3 years.

Though I will say that most of my fun is increasingly based on laughing and joking and hanging out with the friends I go and room with, and less and less based on the games and gaming.. Just FYI.

My apps will now show you where they are saving their settings files in the about box of the program.
This will normally be in a C:/Users/USERNAME/MyDocuments/DonationCoder/APPNAME/
But it can be different based on configdir.ini setting, portable use, etc.

This will help in some troubleshooting.

Try again now -- there was a new overly aggressive security check being triggered before, that should be fixed now.

Living Room / Story of a failed attempt to invent a smartphone in the 1990s
« Last post by mouser on July 31, 2018, 07:29 AM »
General Magic spun out of Apple to make, essentially, what was the first smartphone, and John Sculley famously said, “It’s the most famous company or the most important company in Silicon Valley that nobody’s ever heard of.” It was this incredible team of people that went on to build that thing that we use every day, that everyone has in their pockets...

Fun article..

In 1978 Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry established the encoding that would later be known as JIS X 0208, which still serves as an important reference for all Japanese encodings. However, after the JIS standard was released people noticed something strange - several of the added characters had no obvious sources, and nobody could tell what they meant or how they should be pronounced. Nobody was sure where they came from. These are what came to be known as the ghost characters

Correct.
Yeah I'm not trying to say it made complete sense.. It's still crazyness.  Just an interesting piece of the puzzle.

Interestingly enough, we had someone pop into the 24hr donationcoder chat channel yesterday who made a brief announcement that they had been "stress testing" the server and that there was no maliciousness directly explicitly at us, and were about to stop in 30 minutes, and then they left the channel.  Wasn't clear if they were going to stop for good or just in preparation for round 2.  But the attacks did stop after that, so it seems to have been legit.  Very strange experience, and I wish I had had a chance to ask them about their motivation and the tools involved -- it was quite impressive to see so much traffic coming in so fast from every corner of the globe (though I could do without seeing that again!).

Truthfully there are virtually no dressers that will not tip over and crush you if you open all of their drawers full of stuff.
You can imagine people with young kids have to worry about such things.
There are special gadgets you can get to hold your furniture to the wall in such cases, and I have a big long office cabinet I bought that has a special mechanism that prevents you from opening both the upper and lower drawers at the same time, just to reduce risk of it tipping over.

Having said that, now that I see that the feet look nice, I will probably move the feet as closer to the front and outside the next chance I get, as I think they look nice, and would make the cabinet somewhat more stable.

We have been under attack for the last couple of days, and had to set up a bunch of blocks on certain countries.. It's died down now and if all goes well we can remove these blocks in the next day or too.

The server admins found a bottleneck in our server config that was making us particularly vulnerable to being overloaded easily.. So let's see if the server is a bit more resiliant now.. No guarantees but let's see..

It's just temporary. We have enabled cloudflare proxy security for the last couple of days because our server is experiencing overwhelming traffic due to some weird russia/china attempt to overload our server.

Are you going through a proxy via brazil, china, russia, or indonesia? Those countries had to be blocked (temporarily) as they are the source of the attack.

Speaking of leg position.. Today with my empty cabinet, in order to air it out more, I opened all the drawers fully and the doors...

You can guess what almost happened -- I just caught it in  time as it was about to tip over onto me (!)  :tellme:

I'm not sure having the legs fully forward would have prevented the problem, but it certainly would have helped.  So I may move the legs forward.  Or just remember to load the cabinet up more and not pull out all the drawers at once.

A heads up that you should make sure you copy to the clipboard your posts before you submit them during this time, in case cloudflare does it's thing and loses your post after you submit it.
