Why awkward?  :tellme: It is very much in a Dropbox (Sync folder, etc.) concept as far as I can see.

It puts a shortcut in Explorer favorites like OneDrive.  But when I drag a folder there it acts like I still have to drop the folder on the application window.  It pops up something about how drop to folder will be implemented in the future.  So I delete the folder I dragged from the folder it made in Explorer and drop it on the application.  Then it says I now have maxed out my tresores(at 3.)  They are all the same folder.  At that point it went into the not worth the hassle zone.

The 50 GB giveaway still seems to be out there.  I downloaded the program and created an account.  But usage seemed rather awkward.  I uninstalled.

They didn't ask for any payment method and it said 50GB so I'm assuming it is still there if anyone wants to grab it.  :)

Yes that road is littered with headaches, mines and nightmares. Implementing even a few basic features was proving to be more than a little tricky. Piggybacking off Regex is a breeze in comparison!

I think it was OpenVMS Language Sensitive Editor had its own pattern matching scheme.  A percent sign matched any character is the only one I remember.  I wonder if they used regex internally or rolled their own.

Is there a symbol for the found pattern that may be used in the replacement?  For instance if I wanted to change every instance of

for (i=number;i<othernumber;i++)
{

to

for (i=number;i<othernumber;i++)
{
   int x = 0;

It seems inserting matched pattern as part of the replacement is fairly rare in windows editors without resorting to regex

For those on a tight budget there are also CLI and COM versions of the library available for free.  You can write scripts with any language that can create Windows COM objects(ahk,python for windows, vbs etc.)

This post on Tenforums has a direct link to the 10122 build ISO files.  I am downloading the x64 ISO now.  It also has the ESD files for download if you want to extract the ISO yourself.

I have never used Panda personally. I have known people who have tried it and it always ends badly, often with a need to reinstall their OS.

Ouch!!  Thanks for the heads up.  I'll steer clear.   :Thmbsup:

General Software Discussion / Re: Cyberfox 38.01 AMD x64 smooth
« Last post by MilesAhead on May 23, 2015, 10:31 AM »
I played with the latest version of Cyberfox x64 a week or two ago. It was very quick on my i7, although I didn't install all my extensions to see how much speed would suffer.

I'm still debating on whether or not to switch from Pale Moon. Pale Moon's author is very transparent about what differences are between it & Firefox plus there's an excellent support forum. Cyberfox's list of differences is just some vague wording on their home page.

Yes, I posted on Pale Moon forum some time back.  The author is right onto issues.  It is my understanding that Pale Moon is a different implementation derived from Firefox.  Cyberfox is basically just another build using optimizing 64 bit compilers.  There may be a bit more than that to it.  But you see Cyberfox match the Firefox version within hours.  So it must be a few compiler compatibility tweaks and build it.

I don't load Cyberfox heavily with Tabs.  I rarely have more than 8 open.  Also the AddOns I use are not heavy duty.  Mostly stuff like Lazarus, font size changer, classic theme restore etc..

I was using 32 bit FF for a few weeks because Cyberfox got a bit weird.  It seems now even the update checker in the About Box is working again.  I can't tell it from FF 32 bit.  Even load times seem the same.  I think the AddOns are almost identical.  I use Super Start for speed dial.

Living Room / Re: What books are you reading?
« Last post by MilesAhead on May 23, 2015, 09:42 AM »
Currently I am reading Idoru by William Gibson.  It is the first of his works for me.  The protagonist is a genius researcher.  His gift is the ability to sift massive amounts of data and intuitively pursue productive threads.

The plot beings to focus when he is hired by the high tech equivalent of a Tabloid juggernaut.  I am only a few chapters in.  But the hero seems to be moving inexorably (do they not always move inexorably in novels?) toward the nexus of idols, fame, entertainment, tabloid journalism and scandal.

The book is classified SciFi and as yet the only thing that would distinguish it as such is the rebuilding of Japan using nanotechnology.  I am hoping this changes as the plot gains momentum.

I got half way through this and it is dead dog slow.  A girl in a fan club goes to Japan to find out why one of the guys in the band is going to marry somebody.  Other than the fact she has a weird computer and buildings in Japan are "grown" by nanobots, it is just bad guys looking to find her.  Too much of a plodder for me.  I am trying Mirkieim by Poul Anderson.

My immediate suspicion is some real time shield is blocking what you are trying to do. Do you have one of those heuristic programs that stops stuff it thinks is suspicious?  Something along the idea of Malwarebytes antiexploit?

Booting into Safe Mode should have disabled any AV/AM program.

The error says the Registry data has been removed.  So it's gone long before we get to safe mode.  I'm still not clear on what happened.  The file was renamed to some random name or the new name is known but doesn't exist anywhere?

Edit: searching on the error message about file rename operations being removed turns up stuff about rootkits and malware from 2009 and earlier.  Here's one example:

For those wondering about the meaning there, perhaps this may help:

I guess it ain't just Elvis who lives on.  James Dean works on the web now.  I heard when the .se domain was taken he screamed "You're tearing me apart!"  :)

The original error I have never seen before.  "Pending Registry yadda yadda removed by external process" (paraphrased)

Another possibility is to make one theme with Aero, and save it as a custom theme. Then do the same thing with a non-Aero theme. Then you only have to click the custom themes to switch between them.

+1  Just do "save theme as.."  :)

The command is probably under the RunOnce key in the Registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

2041
Updated to version 1.1.0.0.  I redesigned it to be a bit more automatic.  You should notice after opening the Volume Mixer using it, when you click someplace else, it closes the window more consistently.  Also I removed the test for the Volume Mixer Window after every Left Mouse Button release.  It uses polling at1/4 second intervals.  Much smoother.  Less chance of side effects.

Also it ignores commands while the About Box is open.  See Readme.txt file included in the zip for the gory details.  :)

I read somewhere that NASA is even more concerned about reverse-contamination from Mars to Earth, and has some kind of fancy word for it.

Blowback?  Nah.  Too few syllables.  :)
'Back contamination'.
^You're right MilesAhead, we need a fancier acronym with more syllables. :)

Hmm, I'm not sure if this has a good ring:

Not a scientific test, but I brought up Firefox 32 bit and opened 5 additional tabs.  After CPU usage spike calms down it settles to around 25%.

Same thing with Cyberfox x64 with the same sites loading, it settles to about 16% CPU. Until I see some negative behavior I'll keep it as default.

(Note the pages are still filling in when I say "settles." If left longer naturally the level would decrease.)

Just in case anyone tried an older version and got fed up, Cyberfox AMD x64 38.01 seems to be running pretty smoothly.  I have Firefox 38.01 32 bit and it's tough to tell the difference.

I only have this one machine.  I have no idea how the Intel builds are behaving for 38.01.
