Living Room / SurveyGizmo - A nice online survey web service
« Last post by mouser on March 29, 2009, 01:17 AM »
I recently created a web survey for the DonationCoder.com site (take it here).

I went looking for a service to use for the survey, and finally settled on SurveyGizmo.com.

Now I need to say up front that i didn't do too much comparison with other products -- so i can't really tell you with any confidence that SurveyGizmo is the best tool out there, but on the other hand it's hard to imagine a simpler system.

It's a polished and extremely intuitive and attractive system which will hold your hand at each step, but it's capable of very powerful customization.  I was very very impressed.  Examining results was just as well designed at the survey construction.

Now for cost:
  • If you are creating surveys that will have less then 250 responses per month, you can use it for free.
  • If your surveys will have less than 1000 per month, it will cost you $20/month.
  • For more responses you can subscribe to larger plans.

Seems pretty reasonable though i'm not sure what happens to your surveys if you cancel payment or only pay occasionally when you have a one-shot survey to take.

Document Launch Helper Tool?
thats one of the checkbox options there.

that's a strange error.. is the file name in the error wrong.. let me ask -- if you carefully look at the filename in windows explorer, does it maybe have a space at end or front of it?

do other mp3 files launch properly from farr?

let me look into this right away.

one thing you might experiment with in the mean time is changing the launch method option and see if it makes a difference (you could try changing the document launch helper tool also):

Note that that the first half of that screencast is the steps someone takes if they do not want to sign up at the forum.

If you sign up at the forum then you don't have to do any of that -- as soon as you go to the key page you get an instant license key that works on all the software and lasts for 6 months.

So all of the other steps are for if you do not want to sign up.  But I thought I might as well show that.
And of course if you donate you get a license key in the mail.

« Last post by mouser on March 28, 2009, 05:39 PM »
If you wait another week you'll be excited about the kinds of effects you can apply easily  ;)

And normally you want to make gray some area outside a specific selection, which you would do by selecting a region and then choosing SpecialFx menu -> grey outside (or choosing the button to do this).

BUT, if you really want to grayscale the entire image, you can choose SpecialFx -> Adjust Colors
then go to HSV (or HSL) tab and slide the Saturation slider all the way to the left.

this is another reason we should try to move to fsubscript -- so it's only 1 fscript dll that can get centrally updated.

I suppose when someone uses the term "application", you can probably assume they are talking about something "non-trivial."

Wheras a tiny little utility or snippet of code would be more likely to be called a "program".

i.e. all applications are programs, but the tiniest of programs probably wouldnt be called "applications".

It took me a while just to get it recompiled with latest compiler, etc. so this is a minor release:

v2.10.01 - 3/27/09 beta
  • Added support for the ConfigDir.ini file (allows setting custom directories for config files; better Vista and portable use).
  • Updated manifests to insist on administrative rights (needed for Vista and later).
  • Fixed issues in vista and with large fonts.
  • Packaged more recent dcuhelper.exe update helper.
  • Changed start-with-windows process to use registry instead of startup group.
  • The programmers who designed Vista should be shot -- they have made it virtually impossible for me to make Process Tamer start with windows.  Vista insists on blocking it at startup.
  • Fixed some hints and tab order in the Configuration dialog.
  • Increased size of Min. Change Interval option.

I'd *really* appreciate a report from existing Process Tamer users to let me know if this version works ok (as well as previous version!), so i can push it out as a public update.

nothing, the terms are used interchangeably.

I think we should call the fundraiser over around midnight on April 1st, New York time.
(that is, it will go 24 hours into April by the NY time clock).
