(And a more polite time, too. It's very weird to hear people talking on the phone in the public restroom while taking a dump.)

I hate working in phone support and hearing the customer use & flush the toilet while talking to me...

Please tell me that this is not true  :o

iphigenie: Thank you for the recipes.  :-* Both sound marvellous. I plan on trying both during the Holiday Season.

Yes! Thank you for the recipes - I can't wait to try these out. Reading them, it looks like I should start experimenting in November so that the flavours will have combined by the last couple of weeks in December. Yum yum!

Well, not quite to the level of stone tablet and chisel but:

1. Fountain pens
2. (Soon) hand writing and paper
3. Reading an actual book

So, Capture, did you ever get this issue resolved? Let us know how you made out and what you've tried that either did or did not work.

General Software Discussion / Re: Apple Patents the OS X Dock!!!
« Last post by Darwin on October 26, 2008, 10:27 AM »
I couldn't really find any discussion of ObjectDock in the report. Brad Wardell talks about My Dock, though, but not with any reference to Vista, just Dell and Impulse branded versions of it. Apparently, My Dock is a brand new dock built from scratch, not on top of Object Dock. The discussion about Vista, and how good it looks, seemed more centred around WindowBlinds and Icon Packager - key components of Object Desktop, which he did indicate he has been unhappy with development-wise. Mostly because of issues in the end-user's experience when trying to use technology and/or themes developed for Vista under XP.

You could also use something like Wubi or MobaLiveCD. The first will allow you to install and dual boot Ubuntu without having to re-partition and format your harddrive and the second will allow you to run a LiveLinux distro in an emulation window without having to leave windows and boot from a CD...

The only problem with pdf-Xchange is that moving around in the doc feels sluggish; you can see pages redrawing

I have this problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader (7 through 9) as well, with 2D acceleartion enabled. Happens with larger, searchable pdf files that I have generated (or modified) from image files. For example, I get a pdf that I can't copy selected text to the clipboard from and use PDF Converter Professional 5 to convert it to a searchable pdf. Often, I can watch each individual page redraw as I scroll through it. Very annoying.

Regarding resource usage and performance, have you tried using one of the Acrobat speedup applications such as Adobe Reader Speedup? I used to run Fox-It Reader because of the drag on resources from Acrobat Reader, but discovered Adobe Reader Speedup and have never looked back...

zwr - are you connected in any way with Advanced Outlook Repair? We have no problem with people discussing their own products here at DC, but you should clearly identify your affiliation... otherwise it's easy to assume that you are just a spammer! Two posts in a week and both point readers to the same program, with no disclaimer...

Thanks for reminding me about MirrorFolder, 40hz. I'm going to have to check it out. Now that I am doing more than simply backing up my data and settings (for which SFFS was perfect for me) and actually trying to keep two computers synched, this may be an good - and reasonably priced - solution for me

Have you tried it yet, Jim?

At a guess, pdf-xchange likely does not include OCR technology to allow it to scan image based pdfs and make them editable. It's hard to tell from the webpage... Which version are you using, urlwolf,  Lite, Standard,  or PRO?

EDIT: found a link to a pdf comparing the different versions here: http://files.docu-tr...m/FeatureChartEU.pdf

Yes! Caped and sporting natty blue and yellow lycra super-hero clothing he swoops in to save the day... We're on to something here, Grorgy. Let's flesh it out and approach Marvel Comics or DC.

Yep - or use forwarders to pump email to the gmail account.

That's what I meant by

Set up all your pop mail accounts to be filtered through GMail

So far, Outlook 2007's Junk Filter is doing "all right" on my installation. Will definitely look at the GMail solution, though. It's free and it sounds ridiculously hands-off!

It could be interpreted either way. Only Carol would know for sure.

Yes, absolutely. I think. Well, maybe not. Who knows?

So, er, what do you do? Set up all your pop mail accounts to be filtered through GMail and then set your GMail account as the only incoming e-mail account through Outlook? Then use rules to sort from there?

in other words, their *real* goal is to create lots of fake myspace accounts in an automated fashion.
to do that, they need to solve the myspace captchas.
so they are tricking downloaders from their site to solve the myspace captchas for them.

Ah! I have acheived elightenment (couldn't see a lightbulb smiley amongst the options).

In the spirit of "catching up" (got to increase my post count if I want to do that... ;D) - Congratulations, Carol

Your posts here are more often than not extremely helpful, insightful, and on topic (ie not vague rambling rants!). Keep 'em coming.

40hz - I've always thought that "waffles for England" meant "waffling" for England (as in equivocating). No?
