Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Clips in Favorites Disappear ???
« Last post by mouser on September 17, 2018, 08:45 AM »
I hope I can help answer this -- much of the confusion has to do with the fact that CHS really has TWO different ways to mark clips as "favorites", and I probably should have picked a different term for one of those ways.

  • The first way, is that each clip has a field (column) that can be checked to indicate that the clip is a "Favorite".   But a better term might have been "protect" or "preserve".  When you check this field, CHS should never delete the clip as part of its automatic pruning of old clips.  This automatic filing/pruning of clips can be configured in various ways on the "Backup/Maintenance" tab.  Personally I recommend people leave on the option that moves new clips to the old group and similar, as it keeps CHS really running smoothly if there are not thousands of clips in the New group.
  • The second way to mark a clip as a favorite is to drag and drop it into the "My Favorites" group(folder).  This will ALSO protect it from automatic filing, but has a second effect, which is that the clip is shown in the MyFavorites right-click context menu.

SO, I think the best answer to your question is that you should drag clips you want to appear in your favorites menu from whatever group they are in, into the MyFavorites group.  Just click and hold and drag and drop into MyFavorites.

You could also try disabling the Automatic Filing options on the Backup/Maintenance tab.

Let me know if that helps!

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I'm thinking I made both ways of marking a clip as a favorite have the same effects on a clip -- to protect it AND show it on favorites menu.  So just two different ways to do the same thing.  So you can either move a clip to the MyFavorites group, OR leave it wherever you want and set the "Favorite" flag for it.

The nature of this site is such that we all jump into each other's threads, make suggestions, offer to help, get bored and leave threads, offer unsolicited advice, etc.  Just think of it as a large family with an assortment of all types of people.  It's just how it is.. This is our hobby not our job.

The coders who hang out and participate here, including KodeZwerg, do so because it brings them some satisfaction to interact with users of their software.  If those efforts become unsatisfying it is not unreasonable for them to stop working on it.  This early on a project it can be a very wise thing to stop investing time in something that isn't making you happy.  There are just too many projects calling out for our time and attention, sometimes we have to choose carefully what projects get our attention and which have to be let go.

I'm glad to hear it worked, though it's a bit odd that that was required -- the guessing of margins and overlaps should have figured that out automatically..
2008
After pressing button 1 and 2 to guess margins then overlaps, try manually increasing the vertical scroll overlap by 1 or 2, or the top or bottom margin.. see if that helps.

Yeah that makes me think that perhaps the file association is working -- but not set up perfectly correctly?

Still strange that that happened, but at least it's a clue for me to look into.
I'm not sure what's going on with the icon but maybe there is an issue with the default open app for .doc files, not actually changing from the perspective of LBC until you restart your pc?

How strange..

Can you try this: Go to the topmost "Options" tab and change the setting you have for "Use file launch helper" -- see if that makes a difference?

« Last post by mouser on September 05, 2018, 05:21 PM »
I want a very cheap and very compact solution to print return labels when I am returning goods bought online.
Is there anything like that?

Yes, Brother makes a few and Dymo makes a few.

They are all awesome and I recommend them highly for everyone.   They are thermal printers so they use special labels (not very expensive) and don't use ink, which makes them very reliable and cheap and fast and small.  They connect via usb to your pc and come with free app to help you type the labels.

Maybe pick up an older used model on ebay for cheap.

Just search for: dymo label printer
or: brother label printer

Seems like it would be pretty easy to do.. I could add it.. I wonder if it would be better to have it show the info in a pop up, or have a right-click context menu item to open a web page for the ip address at a site like http://ip-api.com?  Thoughts?

In screenshot captor, just select the first image.
Then click and drag the second image from the thumbnail panel on top of the first image.
Screenshot Captor will then ask you what you want to do.  Choose to combine images side by side. Done!

A nice long article on the history of a very inflential first-person shooter game for the nintendo 64, called "Goldeneye 007".

This is a game I played and finished, and it was the best first person shooter I had played up until that point.

The Nintendo 64’s GoldenEye 007 — or GoldenEye 64, as it’s often known — is seen as one of the system’s all-time classics. Aug. 25, 2018, will be the game’s 21st birthday (allowing Bond to finally taste one of his revered cocktails), so we reached out to the people who played, reviewed and created the game to see how it all came together, way back in 1997. From the multiplayer being added as an afterthought to the game almost having every Bond actor ever, the game you and your buddies logged hours on — paintballing in the Stack or shooting Boris in the balls — was almost something very, very different...

I'm considering, though I know this is part of my option-overload tendencies, to make it so there are actually TWO font scale override settings, one for landscape mode and one for portrait mode.
Implemented; will be in next releases.  It's a bit of overkill, but for those who want to customize fonts to make a view look good, it helps to be able to set these values differently.
