Just to add another voice, I also have a lifetime license, and I have also had the "sleepytime" every time I have installed XYplorer (installing the newest release every time I try). Not constantly, but often enough to aggravate me, and it usually occurs soon enough after installation that I get discouraged. And, like Wraith, I can't point to any common circumstances when it happens.

I'll pull down the current version and give it another go, last time I tried was at 16.50. I always liked the interface. :-)

That's great news! I have always liked TED Notepad, it has a lot of useful features and it (at least in 5.4.2) doesn't require an installation. The main issue I had with it is it is very slow on good sized files, which I need to get into regularly. We'll have to see if the text storage engine improvements help.

I have not actually done this, but that is one of the features they tout. I have had good success with Paragon software for years.

So they have a program running continually to check for updates and they put an icon for it on your task bar that does nothing other than take up space?  How irritating.

So it puts the icon in the task bar to show it's there. Then apparently it pops up another one to show it's doing the check.

I've used the program, plus others, but of all the options it fits my needs the best. I dislike the installer which is Open Candy or whatever, however it is straightforward to opt out of the "extras".

I also donated once and got the same message. After the thank-you period ends, it's back to business as usual with the standard installer.

Thanks for the link Shades - I haven't needed anything other than what Blat offers yet, but I'll need to play with CMail now since it has TLS support. Always good to have more tools in the toolbox!

I always use blat.exe to send emails from the command line. Much faster and more straightforward. The site used to be www.blat.net which will lead you to an older but still perfectly useable version on sourceforge, but the distribution of newer releases these days is from a yahoo group named blat-Discussion. Most recent update was June 16.
