Thank you  :D

And thanks to brotherS for the edit  :)

Also looking for more people to join the team. Unfortuneately, to begin with, it wouldn't be a paid position. But you would gain more experience in Web 2.0 technologies - and as working as a team.

PM me if you wish (no pun intended  ;) ) to be considered for the team.

Some of you may know, but by day I am a web designer/developer. I am setting up a non-profit site, for developing open-source Web 2.0 applications.

I just wanted to let you all know that we are currently asking for what applications you want to see us develop.

The website will be http://www.sixwishes.com and the blog is http://www.sixwishes.com/blog.

Many thanks for any ideas in advance! For those not wanting to read the blog entry, the email address to send ideas to is [email protected]

Edit by brotherS: Great URL for those who never heard of the "Web 2.0" term: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0

General Software Discussion / Re: Boot optimisation software
« Last post by Redhat on April 14, 2006, 06:36 PM »
Hey,

What I normally do is go into msconfig -> startup, and then take out the bits I don't need.

Then, I install this piece of freeware:
http:://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml

Which alerts you when something trys to set itself to run upon boot. You can then control your boot-time applications, and I find it the easiest way, rather than these pieces of software that schedule things to boot a few seconds after each other.

Hope that helps some,

Matt

Program Information

Website: http://www.screamer-radio.com
Cost/License: Donationware (!)

screamer2.gif

Used this for a long time - and realised it hasn't really been mentioned here! Introducing Screamer Radio. A donationware online radio player. It has loads and loads and loads of stations, catagorised, as you can see! (Region, Genre etc...)

You can ever RECORD! Which is a super sweet feature.

You can save stations into your favourites, and access them very quickly. It can also play streams that are not in Screamer itself (File -> Open URL)

Not too many features in this one, but I just HAD to tell you about it  :D

There's a demo account at http://webmail.fusem...d=demo&DoLogin=Y - looking great!

You sure about that missing Outlook feature?
http://www.fusemail..../features/index.html says:
"Sync your MS Outlook mail, calendar, contacts, and groupware using FuseMail SyncML tool."

Yes there is some confusion as to why that is on the page, but last I knew, it hasn't been released yet  ;)

Tried this out a little bit now and really quite like it. If you use one of the Blog sites it supports then it is well worth a look.

One very nice feature is that you can set up your ftp upload site within the program to automatically upload images etc. to includin your blog. I bought a copy of Ecto a while back but that doesn't seem to support that (though it does support Drupal which w.Bloggar doesn't).

My w.Bloggar supports Drupal  ;) 4.00? It's in the add account section.. maybe the site isn't updated?

Fusemail Information
Website: http://www.fusemail.com

Pricing: Cheap!!!

_______

I was initially looking to outsource e-mail for my company's communications. We found Fusemail. Although, we now use our web-hosts mail servers, one of the neat features of the webmail interface of fuse is that you can add POP3, IMAP, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.. all into the same interface, creating rules for that account for messages to go into one folder etc..

That is just the tip of the iceberg for me.

Here's a screenshot, showing some of the extra features:

fusemail1.gif

As you can see, you get file storage, calender, notes, and more with the package. You also get an online Jabber client to connect with others on your fusemail package (mainly for business use). You can save "workspaces" to return to that exact same part next time you login.

There is also a notification client you can download to notify you of new email, in any mailbox on your account - whether that be your hotmail account or your fusemail account.

Only downside is no Outlook integration as of yet - but I believe that is coming. They have their own forums too.

Custom mail filters aswell, custom folders, IMAP/POP3 access as standard... the list goes on.

Anyone looking for a very cost effective pay-for email account should really look no further. The features are second to none, and the account was set up automatically. It's all custom coded too, I believe.

If anyone wants a test account on my package to try it, just ask :)

Introduction

I maintain a few blogs on the net - and I needed a way to manage them all - in one application. I got tired of going to each administration area of each blog to post on them. I then came across the perfect tool for me! w.Bloggar is a FREEWARE blog-posting application and it is so polished and feature-packed I simply cannot believe I didn't pay a penny for it.

Screenshot Uno
wbloggar1.gif

As you can see, you can very easily switch between blogs using a drop-down menu. Passwords can be saved in the app, so it offers speed-of-posting, as well as great functionality.

And, of course, the "one click publishing" feature - simply perfect!

The amount of blog-software w.Bloggar supports is staggering. Here's the full list: http://wbloggar.com/faq.php#243

wbloggar2.gif

You can add templates, SPELL CHECKER!, and even post to many blogs at one time.

Simply put - I am in blogging heaven!

Please, if you own a blog, try this out. If you don't own a blog, get one and try this out! (PM me if you want webspace)

And finally, my blog address ;)

General Software Discussion / Re: Do you use RSS feeds?

Personally use FeedDemon/FeedStation for RSS and Podcasts :) Has everything I need and 2.0 is really responsive - unlike the betas (for me)  :)

I voted for the second from top option - I use them everyday, but I could live without them - it would just take more time  :D

Thank you, f0dder :)

After our chat on IRC, I have decided to go ahead with C++ and a GUI Library. Things are moving fast in the office, just setting up our blog/big marketing tool  :D

Coding will begin once we find someone willing to take on the project as employment :) Probably a temp position for now..

We will soon have a website dedicated to our software design. Stay tuned for updates  :D

Nice reply! Thanks  :)

Let me expand...

My company are moving into software design as well as corporate identity design, and we need to know the right people to hire, and which language they should know

We're thinking C++ too. The programs WILL have GUI's, as the first project is a Customer Relationship Management software, primarily for our own use, but we are looking to resell also.

Apart from wxWidgets, which GUI libraries would you recommend for C++? WTL?

Many thanks as always  8)

Developer's Corner / Language for professional, sellable software?

Hi all,

I've realised I don't post much here, probably good for you  :D

Anyway, I was just looking for some thoughts on the "profitability" in certain languages.

What I mean by this is which language would you pick, if you knew them all (yes, i know, we're talking hypothetically here!) to build software for selling?

I'm talking the Win32 platform here too. Specifically 2000/XP market.

C++ is the obvious answer.. but could you sell java applications? Delphi is another obvious one too.

Just looking for thoughts... :)
