General Software Discussion / Re: XPPro SP3
« Last post by SKA on May 27, 2008, 07:52 AM »
To All

My enquiry was for a new PC that I am building.

An SP3 OEM disk is available from newegg (but they dont ship overseas, I am not in USA) :
 http://www.newegg.co...Item=N82E16832116515

I just think in this Internet age, one should be able to buy just a key instead of full CD/DVD(media)+shipping fees etc - wonder what is so vital in getting an actual CD/DVD ? One has to slipstream further patches anyway even to a SP3 CD
yes ?

@mouser : do you face any issues using Eset Security Suite with Outlook ?
Frankly yours is first positive reference I see for ESS , on Wilders most say its firewall part not that great.
I use Outpost 4.0.1025 now but find it buggy esp for IM , Skype & P2P apps

@Darwin: I am looking for a "best" router with WPA2 (in fact even a wired router is OK- currently use a Billion Bipac 7300G.
If you have time in this busy Christmas season and know of any top brands/models you recommend please do PM  me <grin>
For all routers its important to reset/ change default pasword for admin as precaution.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all you great DC guys(and gals !)

Well f0dder <grin> MS doesnt agree with you - they owned up to it being a Windows XP+IE7 bug per Betanews:

fSekrit / Version 1.3 ?

Apologies to f0dder if this query is inappropriate:

I see only beta 1.3 mentioned in discussions - any chance that a new version fsekrit would be released ?

General Software Discussion / Re: K-Meleon listed as one of top browsers...
« Last post by SKA on July 20, 2007, 08:33 PM »
To alxwz

>I still use a slightly older version (1.02) of K-Meleon, and it's easily the most crash-prone of all my browsers on different platforms<
---
Then you must try the latest version 1.1 - its much better than 1.02.
OR try K-Ninja 2.1.4.2 : http://geocities.com/grenleef/

>And while its bookmark handling is quite flexible in some ways (works with IE favorites, Firefox bookmarks and claims to work with Opera's hotlist, but ruined my hotlist file when I tried it), it's cumbersome in other respects (like adding new bookmarks). <
---
For bookmarks Ctrl-D adds a new link, If using IE Favorites / Opera Hotlist you need to click Add page menu or use a macro to do it. You can ask in K_Meleon forum for tips as many helpful guys are there. I use Powermarks so this is not an issue for me.

>From what I've seen in the past, the developer community seems to be very small and ever-changing. There have also been longer periods where it almost seemed abandoned.<
---
That is not true since last 1 year. There is one main developer: Dorian B , and a sincere &  devoted team of helpers, so it is NOT abandoned AFAIK .
I use K-Melon 1.1 daily.  IMO only Seamonkey 1.1.3 comes close followed by Opera 9.22.     K-Meleon IS the fastest browser on Windows

Can PdfConverter Pro 4 edit pdfs ? Which do you think best for editing pdfs (that dont have any password etc)-apart from Adobe Acrobat 8.1 Pro? Which is next best ?

My main needs are: to extract /cut pages from multipage pdfs/ amend text in same or similar fonts eg price quotes etc. /and possibly convert the pdf into MSWord/rtf docs ?
Grateful for any tips/links - thanks !

General Software Discussion / Re: Detecting RootKits
« Last post by SKA on July 07, 2007, 01:20 AM »
You could try this one : Rootkit Unhooker 3.3 (dont try version 3.7):
http://rkunhooker1.n.../RkU3.30.150.400.rar

For interpreting scan results : you need to ask in Sysinternals /CastleCops /Wilders Security forums where
many experts hang out, including EP_XOff (apparent co-author of RKU).

Sorry for OT remark , but would multipage TIF/TIFF  be a good replacement for pdf's ? I use black n white tif's for most of my correspondence & it works fine.    I use Universal Document Converter ( www.fcoder.com ) to convert docs into tif files

For color images Is there another image format apart from tif/tiff that is multipage ?

I'd really appreciate any advice on which application produces smallest size tif files (I am not having much success with IrfanView).

Thanks

congrats kyrathaba, great to see your program.

May I refer you this link -it may give you some ideas to improve your program ?  http://www.freebyte.com/addressbook/

I use it but face some usability/data loss problems hence looking for alternate addressbook/PIM which robust and can handle over 100,000 entries to maybe a million or so ? Categories/Groups are essential for me .

Thanks for your kind efforts

You dont have to really install Megaupload Toolbar(Alexa Toolbar), just add a string value in registry
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform
Create new String Value,Name it Alexa Toolbar,Close registry,RESTART.

I do run the two I recommend above in "strictly" manual mode - deleting only green items in Regseeker,  rechecking each key manually in Regvac, so .....I must be partially sane <grin>
