General Software Discussion / Re: Photos that spontaneously change
« Last post by Giampy on February 13, 2014, 11:55 AM »
Where did you get the photos?  Is there a common denominator?
It would be interesting if they were all downloaded from the same place

The drawback affects photos downloaded from different websites

Although one would think it should be difficult to just come into the PC and play with the images.  Even if the sneak knew your IP how would he know the image file location?  Unless it somehow "called home."
-MilesAhead

I don't know.
As far as I know Jpg files may include code, though no security progam has detected it in my photos. Such code could communicate with someone outside my PC. I don't know how much this hypothesis is credible.

General Software Discussion / Photos that spontaneously change
« Last post by Giampy on February 13, 2014, 10:06 AM »
Hi all.  :(
I am stressed because of a drawback that bothers me for many months.   >:(

I download many photos from Internet, then I fine-tune them with regard to brightness, contrast, colors, etc...
They become almost perfect.

After some months I find out that several photos are spontaneously changed. They are darker and reddish. I must fine-tune them again.

I am just irritated.

Notes:
- PC and monitor are always the same
- such drawback happens with certain photos only. Anything else in my PC is perfect
- my PC is free from any malware
- those photos appear changed even if I start my PC by an external operating system (on an USB key)

I don't succeed in finding an explanation.
It seems that someone enters in my PC and changes those photos... Is this hypothesis so absurd?

Can you find an explanation to my drawback?

I reported the joke as I remembered it, without caring about its perfection.
To fix the matter I try to rewrite the joke.

------------

The doctor loftily says: "To solve your disease you must spend your summer in a marine place"

Patient: "Excuse me, but I..."

Doctor: "What's wrong? Don't you trust me?"

Patient: "Excuse me, but I..."

Doctor: "Hey, do you doubt about me? Do you dare that?"

Patient: "Excuse me, but I..."

Doctor: "Damn it! Your are irritatingly insistent! Do you believe to be more clever than me? I am a very famous specialist!"

Patient: "Doctor, but I..."

Doctor, nervously and almost loudly: "Ok, you have won. Say what you want!!!"

Patient: "Doctor, I was trying to say that I am a lifeguard..."

I don't get it.

I hope the word "lifeguard" is just what I meant: a person who works all summer long on the beach of the sea to rescue people in difficult while they swim.
Therefore that patient already spends his whole summer in a marine place.

The main point of that joke is the arrogance of the doctor and his useless therapy.

Living Room / Re: Very thin hard disks
« Last post by Giampy on January 02, 2014, 02:43 PM »
Do you have reason to think there might be a problem with them?

Normal internal hard disks have a height of 25 mm / 1" about, those thin hard disks have a height of 12...15 mm / 0.5" about. Within half room mechanical components must be thinner, too thin for my liking. I fear/bet those thin hard disks sacrifice reliability for the sake of size.

With reference to https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=35130.0 I take advantage of this thread to ask (again):  would you ever use those thin (*) external hard disks for backup?

(*) pocket hard disks, thickness 13...15 mm / 0.5" about (the only ones available in the shops)

We know that several people get a bad restore from an image.

An user said an interesting thing: the image must be created from a not running OS, I mean from outside, from a backup program functioning in an USB key.
May that advice be the way to create a safe/safer image?

I think the main lesson of this thread is to make your thread title very clear and accurate ;)

I always care the title, but in this case I didn't know how to summarize the question.

Second lesson (for everyone): read carefully the message before answering! (I asked why... not how!)

it would help a lot if you can supply us with a link to one of such videos

I had already sent the data that Curt asked, then I have accidentally found the probable explanation of the matter.

I use Internet Explorer 8 and Youtube and Flash Player. I read the maximum values of resolution from such software.
Just now I have read those values by another source (not Flash Player. I believe the new format HTML5) and I have read greater values.
I think this is the explanation. I think Flash Player sucks...

I have seen some of the options greyed out - I dont know if this is because YT is overloaded and blocks the higher quality versions - or if it decides that your connection isnt good enough to handle them.

This is not my case. I have always seen that the maximum resolution in Youtube is always available and clickable. Nobody must think that my original question depends on grey items in Youtube.

I've never heard of "videos having a resolution higher than the maximum one that Youtube shows"

It happened to me more than once.
For example, on September, YoutubedownloaderHD and YTD downloaded two videos 360p while Youtube showed 240p as the maximum.
Yesterday it happened again with another video.

I have tried this famous Winamp.
The equalizer doesn't work (yes, it's set to ON), the volume is low and the Preamp doesn't work. Is there a way to solve these malfunctionings?

Hail!
I'd like to know why the programs to download videos from Youtube can download videos having a resolution higher than the maximum one that Youtube shows.

As a simple example, in Youtube we may choose a maximum resolution of 360p but a download program can download even the video of 480p.
