Site/Forum Features / Re: Ignore Thread and Improved Bookmark Mod Implemented
« Last post by mouser on April 19, 2009, 03:13 PM »
Added new mark section (ToReply) -- so now you can mark threads in a new list to keep track of threads you want to reply to later.
Now you can mark threads as:
Bookmarked, Rated, Ignored, ToReply

if people have additional ideas for a new section of marks let me know.

Find And Run Robot / Re: "%cliptext%" fails sometimes
« Last post by mouser on April 19, 2009, 11:48 AM »
can you explain what you mean when you say it isnt working reliably?  in other words is it:
  • substituting a blank string where it should put cliptext
  • leaving it in string as %cliptext%
  • replacing it with the WRONG text
  • not capturing clipboard contents as you expect?

I can't claim to be a grammar expert, or a devotee of Strunk+White.. And I found the critique article very entertaining.. BUT it really does seem like it's overplaying the criticisms of this classic book for effect.

Leafing through my copy, I'm reminded of the pleasure of reading it.  It can't compare to Fowler's Dictionary of Modern English Usage, which is truly one of the rare language treasures of the world, but it's a good book.  The problem is only if you take it as an absolute inviolable set of rules. There are a ton of rules and guidelines and suggestions and examples in the Strunk+White book, and most are very nicely presented, clear, and satisfying.

thats a nice idea simon -- i could add that.

Frank, sorry for delayed reply, multi-core options are planned.

Screenshot Captor / Re: ScreenshotCaptor logo and watermarking
« Last post by mouser on April 18, 2009, 11:36 AM »
Hi joby!
how fun!

some thoughts:
  • you are probably right about it being a little bit busy -- if only because a watermark should probably be mostly invisible and not distract from the main image.
  • my name can be removed from any watermark, so that's one thing that can be removed
  • your logo did give me an idea that perhaps we should come up with a logo that is mostly recognizable as a DonationCoder generic logo that could be used for different programs.. like a picture of Cody the bird masot, but which could be customized for a particular program or person..

Living Room / Re: Geek gadgets - Calculators...
« Last post by mouser on April 17, 2009, 04:16 PM »
I had an hp41cv in high school and used to write programs on it like hangman:
hp_41cv_full.jpg

The HP41 has to go down in history as one of the coolest calculators ever, because of something called "Synthetic Programming":

from this usenet thread:
I seem to recall that Bill Wickes, the inventor of RPL, was person who
discovered HP-41 synthetic programming. Others will hopefully supply
    more details here.
There were a number of synthetic programming pioneers besides Bill
Wickes, including (but not limited to) Tom Cadwallader, Keith Jarett and
John McGechie. But Wickes certainly was one of the first (or possibly
*the* first) to get the idea of using the HP-41C's bugs to create whole
new program instructions
.

i recently changed something in new farr version that was fixing an old oversight and it may have broken these 2 plugins.  basically farr was passing the search keyword in the search string to the plugin, and it shouldn't.  the fix made klipkeeper start working again, but its possible that these two plugins depend on that bug and need to be rebuilt..

We do not allow boredom on this site.

How about checking out the Self-teaching Programming School section of the forum, and begin learning how to program:

i agree with veign mostly (and almost always).

as much as i have a love-hate relationship with css and html, i wouldn't want to go back to a text-only internet.

i also simultaneously think gothic's wordpress theme is super cool *and* hard on the eyes.

ideally it might be nice to offer a switch so user could view it in a more human-friendly format  :P
