Got to say that in my opinion something like the Ubuntu support is somewhat better but I have definitely seen and still see that 'rtfa' attitude all over linux forums and channels.

Having browsed endlessly on places like sourceforge I think that, with notable and popular exceptions, open source Windows software tends to be slower and in too many cases have the feel of being a Windows port.

In regards to freezes post XP and post 8.6 there is no difference in my opinion. I would venture to say Windows is actually better because the Windows machines I have played with have gone through much more abuse (downloads and uninstalls, system level tweaks) than the Mac ones.

Mac has silly marketing talk, like 'Designed by Apple in California' and this manages to work. I mean a phrase like that is near proof that you are buying it for "design" because obviously the processor and like have nothing to with that phrase.

Yes that's true, there is definitely use for - what I would say is very - frequent indexing.

Been trying Blaze with interest. Just a comment, I really don't see a need to have a setting that updates the index and is in minute increments. In days would be more like it if you ask me.

As a sort of reference to perhaps look at CMS made simple does a good job at PHP use in content, uses smarty and has some of the other advantages, but yes I understand what you mean as far as making a fully fledged CMS and dealing with security issues.
What are the chances of being able to look at your Delphi implementation?  :)

1958
I may have misunderstood completely and if so it is my fault completely as well. But a lot of what I read here can be and is achieved by using smarty and is implemented by some CMSes, may be not as thoroughly as described but not too far off either.
For example reusing and controlling content is one of the strengths of smarty.

I think checking on employees is different from conspiracy theories and it's sometimes even a pseudo-official function of HR.

When I say credit cards for example it is a fact that your data is available for use, your buying patterns are collected and mined in the same way any other behavioural data is. Those kind of data are even sometimes used in places like university research labs. Sitting on top of that data is what you actually bought and when and where. And while personal details may be stripped before legitimate use (if anonymous research is considered legitimate) they are readily available without requiring any extra effort from you.

The issue with conspiracy theories like this believing that any organization needs YOU to actually do extra stuff (sign up for facebook, etc.) to find out a lot about you. Daily lives activity reveals so much more valuable (for 'them') information ...credit card usage, debit card usage, phone calls, etc.

Funny how these standards bodies work and their members go ahead and sell/produce/distribute products based on drafts :)

General Software Discussion / Re: Organize desktop icons and more...

Fences @ 0.96 would give me random explorer errors and crashes, was looking forward to updated or post-beta versions but if they are bundling other stuff might have to pass.

Regarding organizing icons I still think a clean desktop is a better possibility by setting up periodic folder and file moves via AHK, powerpro or something like Belvedere, probably not what the OP is asking but an option

1964
Nothing mind blowing obviously but a simplified version of managing documents would be to download files to a central folder and then via a rule based system (file type, date, tags or other criteria) disperse them into separate folders using AHK or similar. This works for me to some extent in the sense that the final folders the files reside in do basically act as baskets or collections.

One thing to try is to disable any fading menu effects, either via graphic card options or windows (Desktop properties--->Appearance--->Effects). See if anything change or it improves.

Looks promising, just downloaded.
One "pre even using it impression" is that I downloaded the 9MB from the site, as part of the install it proceeded to download webkit and gecko .exes adding ~19MB to it. For testing purposes alone (not its other features) one could do alt-tab and load sites in the 'original' browsers.

Wanted to say that I started using skwire's AHK script a couple of months ago and the simplicity and ease is just too good and really like the idea of ExitApp

Thanx :)

Sounds like a nice idea, in case these two didn't come up in your search:

Search Tab https://addons.mozil.../firefox/addon/10164
Showcase https://addons.mozil...S/firefox/addon/1810

I have used the latter and it comes close to what you are describing, although I don't remember why I uninstalled after using it a while ago

Living Room / Re: IE to be removed from Windows 7 in EU
« Last post by rgdot on June 13, 2009, 04:14 PM »
If there is to be something anti-MS domination it should be making computers loaded with alternate OSes more available at the retail point. Removing IE  is pointless.
Where I am, Canada, that could have a positive effect on Apple market share but other OSes (linux based or whatever) will be nudged further onto the desktop and that is a good thing.
