Find And Run Robot / Re: Klip Keeper Access Violation
« Last post by mouser on June 05, 2009, 03:48 AM »
The new fscript.dll works!!!

note to others who try it:
1. grab the latest fscript.dll from ecaradec's page (as of today it's fscript.1.17.dll)
2. rename it to fscript.dll
3. exit farr
4. replace any copies of fscript.dll in your farr plugins subdirectories with this new one.
(if you have multiple fscript-based plugins installed, there may be more than one copy of the dll! dont leave any files like fscript_bakup.dll or fscript.dllbackup in the directories or those dll's might get loaded)
5. restart farr

brilliant work emmanuel!

Find And Run Robot / Re: how can execute a alias without hit enter key ?
« Last post by mouser on June 05, 2009, 02:50 AM »
first comment:
it's not normal to use dosearch and execute that command in this way -- normally you would simply have:
Regular pattern : ^o $
result : cmd.exe

but what you are trying to do is kind of interesting, and i should make it work.. i'll put it on my todo list and try to get it implemented in next couple of days, for people who want to have an alias trigger immediately without having to hit enter.

does the error happen when you select or try to activate one of the kk results?
if so i believe it's a conflict with the fscript fsubscript plugins.

turn off auto detect, see if you can select your adapter manually.

sounds like something might be wrong with the .itemxml data file -- try moving it out of the directory someplace else and see if program loads.

Useful list, thanks for compiling it.

this can happen when you don't actually close farr but switch away and it goes under another application, and then bring it back with the hotkey, which can happen if you are forgetful.

let me know if it happens in other cases(!)

however what i could do is make it an option so that it ALWAYS clears when you hit the hotkey to focus it.

welcome hihihlo

It's not a bad idea to add a way to tell farr not to put a space.

However i'd like to point out that i think there is an easier way to do what you want.

If you make an alias with regular expression:
^hd(.*)$

And result:
dosearch c:\test\HardDisk$$1

then you will be able to type
hd\mysubfolder

to browse file/folder navigation from C:\test\HardDisk\mysubfolder

Maybe each person should post 2 answers, one true, and one made up for entertainment purposes.

As for mine..

Back in the 1940s i worked in Scotland Yard and was a hotshot detective, best in the department.  Nicknamed "mouser" for my ability to always catch my prey (like a cat catch's mice), the name stuck and soon became a more general slang term for detectives.  To this day the London criminal underground keeps a careful eye on my international travels and if i should ever try to head back to England i have been told i wouldn't survive a week.  On the plus side, if you ever get pulled over by a police officer in Brighton who wants to give you a ticket, just tell them that Captain Mouser said to let you go, and Jacks your uncle.

f0dder, i've gone to check out the icon problem in LBC.. it seems to me the problem is only getting icons from .msc files.. can you confirm that? or can you find another exe or dll that LBC can't get the icon from?

Regardless:

Unexpectedly, if i copy the file from win7 to winxp, my winxp LBC *can* read the icons from the .msc file.

What this suggests to me is that the reason LBC in Win7 is failing is that LBC is probably asking for an OS-setting-dependent icon format from the file, that it can't quite handle.  In other words, the problem may simply be LBC being overly optimistic and greedy about what kind of quality icon it is willing to try to handle.  So may be a much simpler fix than i thought.

never trust antivirus heuristic mod scanning.. they are extremely prone to false positives.

i realized we should discuss core farr features in farr thread so i'll move this, but what i was asking is not how to implement, but to elaborate on exactly what you want farr to do and what the user interface would be.

regarding "just shellexecute it" do you mean something different than when you type in farr "run PROGRAMTORUN"
(i do note that this doesnt work with diskmgmt.msc in all fairness)

regarding run as admin.. im not sure what you are asking for -- a way to run a particular found result as admin, or run farr as admin, or what, and how you want that to be exposed to user.

f0dder can you explain a bit more about how you would like those 2 options to express themselves?

Just a quick report about Windows 7 (win7, windows7) compatibility testing on my applications -- feel free to add any observations you find.

I've tested:
  • Screenshot Captor -- seems to work perfectly
  • Clipboard Help+Spell -- seems to work perfectly
  • URL Snooper -- seems to work perfectly (the 3rd party Winpcap balks at installing, but win7 then popped up a dialog suggesting to reinstall it in compatibility mode, after that)
  • Multi Photo Quotes -- seemed to work perfectly
  • Launch Bar Commander -- seemed to work well (the default setting of thin borders on docks is horribly ugly big border on Win7, so i need to fix that; and i understand some icon importing abilities may be defficient in LBC).
  • Process Tamer -- seemed to work perfectly
  • Find and Run Robot -- seemed to work perfectly

I was pretty impressed by how smooth Windows7 installed and ran.. Since i skipped Vista I might go for win 7 after it hits the shelves.

this is embarassing but.. I don't remember! I had it as a nickname for 10 years maybe, and I don't remember it's origin.  And i've had this avatar since start of DC.. didn't give too much thought to it just seemed fun.  Maybe i need a new one in 2010.

thats very strange.. anyone else with virtualbox installed have this problem?

are there any spaces in the filename?
if you go look at the shortcut file, and right click on it and view properties, is it one of those shortcuts that doesn't link to an actual location?

Nick,

The general policy of the site is to allow people to post about their services in this section, but we ask that you not make repeat posts, and that the posts not be copy-and-paste adverts.

lol, here we go again with these antiviruses trying to "help" us all by crying wolf over and over again without any rationale.

i do worry often about the idea of "Balkanization".. i think the more subforums there are in general, the more fragmented the discussions get, and the more the danger is that we lose the feeling of being one happy family.

of course the opposite is true to -- that if you try to have all discussions in one section, it the signal-to-noise ratio gets so bad that no one wants to even bother, since most of the posts they are encountering aren't relevant to them.

we could just try a linux section for a few months and see how it goes.. worst case scenario just merge those topics into the General Software section, no harm no foul.

well it's nice to hear you discovered theproblem.  sounds like solution is to uninstall avast?
