AutoHotkey / Re: Clicking in fields
« Last post by Ath on October 26, 2012, 01:08 PM »
You can locate the position of the text label that's usually on the left side of the input, and click a few pixels right of that? AHK or AutoIt can do that for you.

Living Room / Re: ArsTechnica hand-on review of Surface RT
« Last post by Ath on October 26, 2012, 09:29 AM »
Are reviewers really not bothered by the closeness of WinRT?
Exactly the same limitation goes for all iPad models.
Or most Android tablets for that matter. Advantage of Android is that there are several variations (aka custom ROMs) available, but usually not when these tablets are introduced.

There are Android ROM's available for a few older Windows Mobile 6.x phones, so let's wait and see :)

That AutoStart is only going to work for Services, not stuff with an AutoRun feature, or shortcuts in the All Programs/Startup folder.

I'd be inclined to mock something up for this task, I said before I needed a N.A.N.Y. 2013 project ;D

Edit: I already thought I remembered that there was a Skrommel tool for that, and that's true: ReRun

Living Room / Re: Chrome broke and I can't fix it. Setting Chrome as default browser.

In the IRC channel, ewemoa recommended that I uninstall Chrome so I could reinstall it to see if that would fix things.
Obviously ewemoa is a clever guy, and knows stuff that other people don't know  :P ;D

An update was released for WinButtons 3.6.1.0 (drop-a-wbuc-file-to-load-that support) and also a minor update for WinButtonEdit 1.1.0.3 (bugfixes) in this message, click through to the release message for some screenshots, and the official downloadlink.
1932
WinButtons just learned a new trick: Drop a .ini or .wbuc file (with a valid WinButtons config inside) on it and it'll open that configuration, if no On Drop command is defined for the button you dropped it on. (Also accepts if dropped on the background or on an input control)
Some bugs where ironed out of WinButtonEdit.

Another update release of:
and

Download available from the release message, linking to my DCMembers pages.

Updates can be downloaded also from the WinButtonEdit File/Check for updates option, using DCUpdater when installed.

Any feedback or feature requests are still welcome, as usual :)

+1

And I guess some password safe apps like KeePass should be on the ignore list by default, instead of sampleapp1 and sampleapp2

Can you clarify what kind of remote work you are planning on having this do?  Is it like a remote desktop program?  Thanks.

General Software Discussion / Re: Ramdisk
« Last post by Ath on October 21, 2012, 02:33 PM »
If you don't have a very special need for a ram-disk, then stay away from it. Current harddisk are quite fast, and SSD's are even faster. You shouldn't need it.
When working with (multiple) virtual machines, the memory is used much more optimal for the VM's.

Great tool

I am opened for any comments and suggestions.
Can I suggest I create a Dutch translation for you? If yes, please send (PM) instructions 8)

Edit 2 : Huh, I ran WinButtons by dragging and dropping the ConstanceJill.wbuc file on the EXE and it looks like it's working OK, except the "close" button isn't responsive (?)
Drag&Drop is in fact a feature of WinButtons, but not in the way you seem to expect: It hands the file to the drop-action defined for the button you drop the file(s) on, it doesn't use the .wbuc file as a configuration to open... (but I could make it do that, sounds quite logical, now that you mention it...)
2 possible easy ways to run that configuration file:
  • Rename the file to WinButtons.wbuc and run WinButtons
  • or
  • Use WinButtonEdit to register WinButtons as the default handler for the .wbuc extension (Options/Set file association for .wbuc/Open with WinButtons), and double-click or right-click/Open the file
1 somewhat less easy, but still convenient, way to run it:
  • Create a shortcut to WinButtons.exe, and add -f ConstanceJill.wbuc to the command-line (including a separating space from the exename)
1940
Things took a little bit longer then expected :( but hey, this is software, and software is never finished 8)

I've released minor updates for WinButtons 3.6.0.2 and WinButtonEdit 1.1.0.2 in this message, click through to the release message for a couple of screenshots, and the official downloadlink.

The configuration showing the screenshot 2 posts up is also included as ConstanceJill.wbuc.
2 feature requests not quite implemented yet:
  • Remove history item/all items
  • Quick Button Create/Edit screen

I'll be working on that though...

Some bugs where swatted out of the new showParams feature of WinButtons and WinButtonEdit.

So here's an update release of:

Download available from the release message, linking to my DCMembers pages.

Updates can be downloaded also from the WinButtonEdit File/Check for updates option, using DCUpdater when installed.

Any feedback or feature requests are still welcome, as usual :)

I'm ironing out a few quircks from WinButtons, caused by the 'showParams' feature I introduced in version 3.6, but I can show a teaser screenshot:

Expect an update-release later today, I'm doing some more tests and updating the readme files.

I'd bug the author of these FileMenu tools to fix that issue for XP, and also add/enable it for Windows 7, as it seems a quite useful feature.

I'll look into this
Care to share your findings?

Haven't done the Quick Button edit screen for WinButtons yet, not sure if you (still) want/need it?
It would just be copying some parts of WinButtonEdit into a smaller window, and dragging over some of the code into the shared source-file. ;)

It would be interesting to know what was sitting there that blocked your friend Cathy from working as expected, but I guess we'll never know

And the key name also isn't very intuitive...

N.A.N.Y. 2013 / Re: NANY 2013 Pledge: Text Merge from CSV and Template text files.
« Last post by Ath on October 15, 2012, 03:04 PM »
^Hm, was a bit afraid of that being a possible reason. NP.

If I'd have to do an alternative to Excel2Html, f.e. to create the above pledged tool, I'd probably write it in C# using the .NET runtime :P

but I want non-java, as I do not have java
??? Sun/Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE), that Excel2Html requires as runtime framework, is free ($ 0,--), also on your side of the globe, AFAICS. :-\
