What everyone fails to realize is that mouser time does not equate to a given time zone. He is seen up at all hours of the day which have no apparent rhyme or reason. He will often times be up and working at 2 in the morning and the next day be up at 8PM working on the same project with a period of only 3 hours of sleep. His randomocity is similar to the QBASIC command RANDOMIZE TIMER.

If she has windows xp, you can setup Remote desktop. It is the easiest and FASTEST solution available. Also, remote assistance works well if you don't want RDP ports open all the time.

General Software Discussion / AntiVirus with decent anti-spyware (realtime) detection
« Last post by Josh on September 03, 2008, 01:40 PM »
To all,

I have seen this talked about several times on these forums, but I am attempting to solicit opinions of different products from various people. I am currently evaluating VIPRE (By Sunbelt) which is an antivirus with antispyware built in (as almost all a/v's have nowadays). I am liking it, but before I buy it, I want to hear opinions of others I should try. I am thinking of trialing webroot's a/v & a/s. I wasted my money on a 3 year subscription to lavasoft adaware, which has failed me 3 times in the last 2 weeks, and as such I am going to contact them and force them to refund my money. The product touts it's ad watch program as a decent realtime protection system, but it fails everytime I've used it. Now, they might argue that I should have used the trial, but I am not going to install spyware on my system just to test a product in the case that it fails.

So, what antivirus programs have you all used which come with a good anti-spyware module providing realtime protection?

Let me know and thanks!

Josh

If I were fired from DC, I would take with me all of mouser's credits and his broken air conditioner in hopes of salvaging it. Oh wait, I have been terminated! Mouser, your A/C is mine!

Darwin, thanks for the input. If you can, post a follow up when your 15 days is up as I am interested in which you decide to go with before I begin trialing upon my return home.

Darwin, any update on this? How do you like Vipre? I am looking to trial it when I return home, and need to know if its good and fast. I will also check out webroot as per your current recommendation.

What do you think?

OK Folks, we now have an official explanation for the problem this morning. If you are a regular of the donationcoder.com IRC channel, you will know that our very own mouser has a problem with air conditioners. Well, today, we have discovered that after a night out on the town, mousey came back to his apartment and mistook his air conditioner for a comode. As such, the air conditioner shorted out. Since mouser runs donationcoder.com off of his 386 running windows nt 3.51 and an aol 2.0 connection, the system overheated due to improper ventilation. This has been resolved, but who knows when we will have another issue with air conditioning. Given mouser's extensive problematic history with air conditioners, this reporter says "Nope".

You see, this is the problem with Opera. They expect users to cater to their browser as opposed to the other way around. A user, when they load a browser, doesn't care who's fault it is that a site does not work. They just expect it to work. Opera doesn't seem to realize this. The same goes for their feature base. They expect the user to cater to what they put in their browser rather than catering to what the user's want. For years, I have clammered for an API so that features can be added to the browser without having to wait for the developers to add a feature, if ever, to the browser. As other's have pointed out, Roboform support is one of the biggest requests they have yet the dev's continue to ignore it. Most of the features implemented into Opera are done so in a manner that let's opera say "We did it first". After they add it, the feature is left to stagnate. Look at the wand, it has failed on several major banking sites, consumer purchasing sites, and even ebay has had problems which only as of recently have been resolved despite being reported over 2 years ago.

Opera has to realize that they are catering to users, not the other way around.

I am wondering how many of you have utilized trialpay as a means of purchasing a program? What programs do you know of which support this method of payment? I know of Winrar, mIRC, and winzip, but what else does?
