just grab the lower right corner of the entire window with the mouse and click and drag.
(the cursor should change to a diagonal two headed arrow when you move near the bottom right corner to show that the window can be resized by dragging).

just resize the dialog -- the saved picture is exactly as big as you make it.

I must say for a newborn you have figured out how to use the internet quite quickly.

A while ago a local blog mentioned a graduate student who was trying to raise a thousand dollars so he could try to make a go of creating and selling homemade organic chocolate bars from scratch (roasting the cocoa nibs, etc.).

He actually ended up raising the money through a site called Kickstarter, and I was proud to contribute a little bit.  The fun thing that he is doing, which i think is really important in terms of making the whole crowd-funding idea work, is that he is blogging about his experiences making the chocolate, etc.

I want to encourage more people who read this, who have a small dream project they need a little funding for to go for it, and maybe try a site like Kickstarter to raise the money you need (as the excerpt below states, the money raised is not investment money, it's a donation to you).

If you do try it, I really do think that the key is to blog about how that money is spent and how you do with the project -- if you do that, everyone can feel like they are part of the experience and if it doesn't succeed as you hoped, everyone will still feel like it was well worth the try and the learning experience.

What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a new way to fund ideas and endeavors...
A good idea, communicated well, can spread fast and wide.
A large group of people can be a tremendous source of money and encouragement.
Is Kickstarter an investment mechanism?
No. People who use Kickstarter to fund their projects ("project creators") keep 100% ownership and control.

What's in it for the people who pledge?
Project creators can offer products, services or other benefits ("rewards") to inspire people to support their project.

Why is the money given called a "pledge"?
They're pledges because money is collected only if a project reaches or exceeds its funding goal before time expires.
...

SO:
Let's see if we can't get some DC regulars to give Kickstarter a try -- and maybe we can try to support each other's projects.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Icon only section on single dock in LBC?

I sent you an updated version of LBC that fixes the bug a while ago -- there was indeed a problem with LBC ignoring the overide when the dock had the option to make all captions the same width checked.

one thing at a time, let's tackle the idea of having an area of icons without captions.
you can do that in the newest versions of LBC, by configuring this in the Node Overides tab for an item.

One elegant way to do this is:
  • Create a Menu node on your launch bar, and in the Group/Submenu tab for it, set it to "Contents as root-level items"
  • This says that all of the children of this node are actually displayed at the same level as the parent node (instead of the parent node).
  • And then in the Node Overides tab for this parent menu node, set the Overide Children Node Settings to be "Force: Small Icons"

that should do what you want.

Screenshot Captor / Screenshot Captor - Tips and Tricks Thread
« Last post by mouser on July 24, 2009, 01:13 AM »
I thought it might make sense to have a thread dedicated to tips and tricks with Screenshot Captor since there are a lot of things that users might miss.

All you SC experts please post your discoveries, and I'll try to add some as well.

New beta is up, sorry for the delay.

Includes the new scanner functions plus a bunch of last minute fixes.. it's possible i broke something with the post capture pop-up dialog, so please report any problems!

Hope you guys like the new scanner functionality -- to enable it go to last page of options -- then you'll see a new main menu and toolbar and tray menu.

Hi basc,
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply.

Can you give more detail about what this means:
a designer's mask with two feather lines super imposed, which can be moved and then applied,

As you say your first request for a simplified process sounds like a job for MiniCap.

Joto, if you can reproduce the problem in latest Screenshot Captor versions let me know -- as far as i can tell SC does open the scanner dialogs modally, and shouldn't let you interact with it until you finish scanning.  It sounds like perhaps something else went wrong and the scanner dialog being open was just a coincidence.

Occasionally I have found an SC bug where some SC dialog pops up modally but gets hidden behind sc window and then sc becomes unresponsive (alt-tabbing to SC usually fixes that).

may i suggest you not use auto remove backgroun on the scan options.
instead, choose select foreground only
then use the MANUAL foreground select threshold on the scan toolbar to experiment with threshold level.

it only works by selecting a foreground recentangle.
but i've not had any trouble if the main image is straightened and the frame is angled.
you might make sure you have the proper scan bed color set in options.

yeah an hourglass would help.

it sounds like the program is having a hard time creating the screenshot directory.
what operating system are you using?
you might try this fix:

Background removal -
I cant get this to work - scanning dark image on white (paper) background - it could be the fact it's paper - it's texture does get scanned which probably makes it difficult to remove - will try with a sheet of photo paper later

the new system lets you tweak the tolerance interactively; its that number down on the scanning toolbar.
as you change that now, youll see the selection box try to pick out the foreground.  try values around 140 or so.

Is there any way to cancel after starting a scan ?
not yet.

I can't test the background remover because I have light background but have two thin strips of dark either side
i might be able to add ability to specify custom scan area/margins, which take care of situations like yours.
